Great signing for Spurs. Really fair play to them, losing Bale could actually be a blessing In disguise their squad is a lot stronger than last year.

I remember Tim Vickery talking about him when he was at River. Can't believe its been over 2 years since then..

Great signing for them. I think that Lamela has potential to become even better than Bale and I would expect from him a similar impact like Hazard last season.

Spurs have been brilliant this summer. Like him or hate him, Levy goes about his business superbly.

Brilliant player. Another day passes and another top class player moves to one of our rivals. Also reading Nani might be headed to Juve. This has been a bad summer, and I don't see it getting any better.

In what respect are they one of our rivals? All they're doing is replacing Bale. Nani possibly moving to Juve has nothing to do with this does it?

Because us finishing in the top 3 this season is a certainty is it? All of our rivals have strengthened, whereas we have signed noone and lost the greatest manager ever. Anyway that's for another thread.

Spurs have made some really good signings this summer, and I expect a couple more. Bale leaving is big but they have brought in some class which will make them a better team.

Bale leaving is probably the best thing that could have happened to them. Selling him for 100m and replacing him with Soldado, Lamela, Paulinho, Chadli and whoever else they signed is amazing business, and give them another year or two and they'll probably be competing for the title. They've not just replaced bale. They've surpassed anything they could have hoped to have reached had he stayed with Spurs because they wouldn't have been able to spend like they have. Also they've managed to sign one of the best prospects in world football in Lamela.

Yes.

Selling Bale and replacing him with half-a-dozen so-so players (exc Lamela) makes them weaker not championship contenders.

Lamela and Soldado are good signings but even so Lamela will take time to bed in. Other than that it's been nothing earth shattering.

Disagree Pete. They've improved their first team and improved the quality in their squad. They have sold Bale, but they'll be in far less need of being "baled" out. They'll be a much better team this year and will get more points than last season imo. They've still got some weakness' in their side though, but mental to think that when Bale is sold, they'll be breaking even this summer even with all of the players they've brought in.

They haven't actually scored from open play this season yet though. Wait 'til Sunday now I've said that.

It takes any team with many new additions time to bed in, but Spurs have quite a gentle start so they'll be fine with that. Lamela is a top signing but Paulinho and Chadli aren't really.

The thing is - it doesn't really matter how good they turn out to be. At least the board envisages a future and attempts to sign players to make them better. They could all flop and they'd still have had a better summer than us.

Paulinho, Soldado are hardly so-so players. With Soldado they finally have a very good striker (something you lot are incidentally missing as well, regardless of how Giroud started the season). Pretty much any side in the league could have used Paulinho as well judging from what I've seen of him from his games for Brazil and how he's been so far for Spurs, yet Spurs signed him. They've probably got the best midfield in the league, and the most depth for midfield right now.

No chance of that but we needed to strengthen to challenge for the title.

Not gonna happen this year Pete. Surprised how well Giroud's started though.

I've never seen him play, but I shall pretend that I also know he is the tits and will be a great signing.

feck off. Seriously, there's being justifiably critical of our players but this is too far.

The first time I saw you being nervous here.

Although if you take into context only the real season, he may have a point.

I'll be interested to see how good Lamela really is. He's coming with a hefty price tag. While I suspect this is a good signing for them, based off what I have seen personally and the ravings of others, it wouldn't surprise me if this was another case of overhype.

These kind of signings can go both ways, but I would really be extremely surprised if he doesn't become a great player and I could see him in three years becoming the best player in the league. He has really impressed me everytime I have watched Roma play.

Haven't seen him for Roma so will be interested to do so for Spurs this season. But watching his goals from last season, he looks to have a bit more technical ability and flair than Bale, but with none of the physical power and speed. Will be interesting to see how he does
