I'm talking more about finishing somewhere in the top 4 than about winning the league title. But yes, I think Levy is able and willing to spend more this summer even than we already have ... further spending that is not reliant on selling Bale.

You will sell Bale at some point just a matter on time. He will, if he continues to progress in the way he has, want to sign for one of Europes biggest clubs be it Madrid, Barca, Utd, Milan, Bayern etc all a step up from Spurs. I actually think he may be best staying at Spurs this years in terms of his development as a player but eventually he will leave.

He was one my inner-hipster favourites last year. Going to Spurs would be pointless for him. A genuine step up to a CL club would be good but he's in a decent place at Roma who look like they could have a decent season. They play good football, just not always pulling out the results.

If Nani had left wouldve loved us to go for him. Big lad, plenty of pace and a cracking left peg.

Looks like he will be going to Spurs. His agent and father are in London just now meeting with Spurs officials. Woody get something done. Sign him!

I think Spurs have done some good deals this window. Will be interesting to watch their progression in the coming years. Even without Bale

I think they are pulling off some fantastic deals. 5 good quality players in to replace a single player, albeit that he is fairly exceptional. Levy is definitely handling it better than in previous years where he would be left with no time to get anyone in.

My inner muppet is quite jealous of Spurs this summer.

Well it looks like Bale is going but you are using the money to buy Lamela and Willian, fair play, Levy has reinvested and shown ambition if both deals go through.

Supposed to be quite a player. Spurs are doing some very good business this summer.

Quite a few of Spurs signings this Summer would've been more than good enough for us. They're doing great business.

I am surprised none of the big clubs are interested.

I would say that Spurs is the team who has done the best business in Europe this summer. If they sign Lamela and Willian (looking very likely) together with the other signings they have made such as Soldado, Paulinho and Capoue they are considerably stronger than last year (assuming that Bale is gone).

I don't think they will sign Lamela. Also not sure why Roma need to sell him, they've already sold Osvaldo and that central defender to PSG. From the player's perspective, he should develop at Roma for one season and he'll get offers from much bigger clubs than Spurs.

His not ready for top 3 I keep telling you muppets. Stop watching youtube and watch an actual game. Great signing for Spurs hope he goes.. Would be an ideal replacement for Bale.

Fair play to Spurs if this deal goes ahead, they have done some great business this summer. Even if Bale is sold , their squad is so much better than last season. They could have gone and blew the Bale money on overpriced panic buys but they seem to be getting some great players in.

Roma are a joke. Forgive me if they are totally skint, but they have no ambition it seems and are simply trying to invite as many bids as they can this summer. Marquinos, Osvaldo, Lamela and reportedly Pjanic could all leave for big money, and I have heard little about them spending decent money themselves.

They got an incredible deal for Marquinos though they would have been stupid not to sell.

I've watched a lot of Roma over the last couple of season, because they were usually highly entertaining. It's all well and good saying he's not ready, but what's the point in not going for him only to probably want him in 2/3 years for double/triple the price. I don't think he'd play every single week, but I think he would be more than ready to contribute on a regular basis. Whether he would play as an inside winger or as a forward, he'd give us more flexibility up top. I think we'd be missing out on potentially world class player if he goes to Spurs.

If spurs pull of these 2 transfers, their squad depth in midfield would be amazing. Sandro, Dembele, Holtby, Paulinho, Capoue, Lamela, Lennon, Willian, Chadli..

Hard to believe that only Spurs are in for him. I hold the hope that Woodward is going to surprise us and sign a new Erik.

I think they're both very skint and very much in debt as well. They made a loss of 60 million euros in 2011-2012 and don't seem to have done much since to rectify that kind of loss. In terms of how much debt they're in, they're in the top 10 clubs in the world for the amount of debt.

I'm not an expert but they seem in real financial trouble to me.

If we're buying either of Lamela or Willian, you'd have to say there's a good chance Bale is off. Both and its almost certain.

Not sure how I'd feel about that, we'd have brought in Paulinho, Capoue, Chadli, Soldado and (if the rumours are true) Lamela, Willian and Coentrao for a not incredibly high net spend, especially considering our business in the past 2 years and the new tv deal. And we've released a lot of pointless players on high wages so that will help clear up a lot of money as well.

Would still be sad to lose Bale though and everything, both footballing and non footballing, that he brings to the club.

Apparently the Roma officials are in London to discuss the transfer of Borriello to West Ham and not anything to do with Lamela, according to the Guardian.

Being sad at losing Bale is obviously understandable but IF you manage to bring in Lamela and Willian on top of all your other purchases your squad and first team is definitely much better.

Sadly, losing Bale was always inevitable for you to be fair. Quite simply, the very best players in the world do not typically play for Spurs at the peak of their powers.

The truth of the matter is the very best players, like top 10 or so, will usually be shared amongst about the same 5-7 clubs. Whenever, a player breaks into that elite group - they will usually join one of those clubs.

As for Roma, if they don't have the money then I suppose it is fair enough for them to sell. They could make around 100m euros this summer, which will help any financial crisis.

I read earlier on that Roma were hoping to do a swap with Genoa for Gilardino and Borriello. Either way, Borriello is awful.

Quality player. Would be seriously impressive if Spurs get him. Their squad is shaping up.

When you compare the club's signings and the fact Spurs only finished a point behind Arsenal last season it doesn't actually seem that farfetched.

Spurs may lose Bale, but even with him missing they seemingly have a better team compared to last season and are looking to strengthen even further. Arsenal haven't even found a Gervinho replacement.
