Starter in different positions for a club that's accumulated the most Premier League points over the past 2 seasons isn't good enough for a United team that finished 6th last season and often utilised Fellaini as the midfield anchor.....ok chaps.
It's worrying how stupid the football public has become in the past decade; EA FIFA, YouTube and 3 kits a season have seen know-nothings belittle very talented, tactically astute footballers for not being sexy enough to comply with their warped idea of building a successful team.
Luckily for Dier, Pocchettino rates him highly, and clearly so does Mourinho; the opinion of some forum-dwelling fanboy of all things cosmopolitan is completely irrelevant to him, his life and his career.
Post-Ferguson, United have tried to go golactico to appease the goons, and it's resulted in a prolonged era of relative, expensive obscurity. Di Maria, Falcao and Pogba have all arrived and failed miserably (although there is hope for PP yet if he stops believing his own #hype) to return the club to the Fergie-era glory.
Dier isn't supposed to be the new Carrick; Pogba is being moulded into a deeper passing-machine, but he needs a tactically aware destroyer next to him to neutralise the flaws of utilising him there. Dier fits that role perfectly, as you will see next season.
