Eric Dier | Poch: “He is an important player for us and the idea is not to sell him."

Do you want United to sign Eric Dier?

Different view to most above.

If the quote is true then it shows he's for sale.

He's England's first choice DM (not that means anything from an achievement POV but he's better than most are admitting).

He's 6'2 and fits Mou's idea for setting up a team. Wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if there's something in this.

If he's who Mourinho wants them get him.

Couldn't give a shit about the £50m price tag. Transfer market is so distorted by the money being pumped into football that £50m is the new £30m.
I agree. In the current market, and particularly when clubs seem to ask more from us because we're Utd, I don't know what really represents value any more. Let Woody do the maths, back Mourinho, and get the players he wants in.

shockingly bad and overated, midfield john stones.
I wouldnt go near him. For any money.
Schneiderlin was better.

We can surely get someone else for that price or even lower. The guy does not have the mentality to play here I'm telling you. Always looks pretty bloody ordinary to me. Carrick has more intelligence in his little finger.
Can't believe United would go for this. Also, why the hell is Spurs so keen to get rid of him? He's not good enough for them but we want him? Strange situation.

Is this necessary? He's had the same freedom for us all season as he had for France against England.
No he hasn't - Fellaini has been pushed further up the field at times. He's also played in a midfield 2.

Stability with him playing on the left of a midfield 3 and I think we'll see a much better Pogba.

I think it comes purely down to him being English, with Rooney and Smalling likely off this summer and Carrick on his last legs the main squad will be low on English regulars with Rashford, Lingard and Jones the only ones with any real part to play with Shaw 50/50 at best to make it here. I wont be at all surprised to see Dier's fellow overrated English big man Barkley linked to us once Everton spunk all their cash,

He's better than he's made out to be here. Would do a very good job for us and will help release Pogba.

£50m is too much

Which player he released before by holding fort in his career? If that is the requirement, Its better to get Wanyama than him.

Dier isn't going to help Pogba in this regard, he's cumbersome so he's not going to cover the gaps in behind that is required and he's also mediocre on the ball so he's not going to prevent the need for Pogba to constantly come deep and get the ball.

If Pochettino could guarantee 2nd every year whilst winning feck all with low budget and good scouting, Levy'd sign him on a 5 year contract. If Mou would offer that, we'd tell him to piss off and leave. Thats the difference between United and Spurs ambitions.

Got to be some other English player we can get to fill the numbers? Why not promote a kid or two? It's a complete waste of money. He's overrated as heck. I'm just hoping we really aren't in for him and for £50M at that! Waste of money imho.

France played a midfield two against England though. 4-4-2. And even with Fellaini pushed further up the field, Pogba still has only one person behind him - the same as he had against England i.e. Kante. And Pogba has been given the task of getting into the box for us at teams this season. That's further forward than he was against England, where his task was to dictate from deep.

I agree it would be a poor buy but I didn't mean just English numbers, I meant English players who are actually regularly involved. I think had we ended up getting Keane instead of Lindelof then we'd have avoided Dier.

This is ruining my Ronaldo buzz. I know the market is inflated but its not like Dier is some specialist DM or anything. I'm sure we could find a much cheaper alternative who can do the same job. 50m is way to much for Dier.

He doesn't even count as home grown so would be in the 18 non-homegrown player quota.

So then what else has he got to recommend him? Not many of us seem impressed. I guess this would count as one of Jose's dud transfers.. which all managers have, but still hoping this will not happen. Plus don't want Levy to get any money from us:D

Shocking if we really do sign him for £50m, Maybe United should give up on football altogether.

Since when have Spurs ever set a price for us?

I don't think I'd be sticking my neck put too much to say Dier wants out, & as Spurs see him as easily replaced would be willing to sell to us as they will get top money, & hope to tie Luke Shaw into any deal.

If Jose wants him fair enough, but falls into the rather not pile for me.

50m for Dier, 50m for Perisic and 70-80m for Morata  you couldnt make this shit up, i feel like i am in a bad dream

Probably the shitest way to spend close to £200 million.

If Jose wants him then fair enough, but £50m would be a colossal waste of money for a completely average player. £50m feck me

He's a decent enough player, but limited. If the intention is to use him in – precisely – a limited DM capacity, he could do well. He's not a poor passer, as such – only, again, limited. He's perfectly capable of breaking up play and releasing the ball effectively to a more expansive midfielder (Herrera) to keep the momentum going.

His weakness, as @Brwned suggests above, is that he tends to look clumsy and out of place when he has to be a bit more adventurous on the ball (and with his passing options). But ideally you'd have Herrera there as – literally – the middle man between Dier and the attack (Pogba, not least, in more of an AM role).

I think that could work. But I obviously agree with the general idea that we should be able to dig up someone for that role somewhere for less than fifty mill. Dunno who that would be, though – we'll probably end up paying pretty heavily for anyone we go for this window.

We will get him for about 40m. He's obviously our top DM target. Been mentioned since March.

Do you really believe United have higher ambitions?

You have more money, you have had more success in the past, we want to win just as much as you do. Don't confuse the feeling of being happy with improvement with being content not winning.
 Of course we do. Spurs are happy with finishing inside the top four every season without winning anything while we're trying to get back to where we belong which is playing in big European games and challenging for the league title. We won more trophies in one season than Spurs have in like the last two decades. Spurs fans crack me up

No, just no. We don't need the Spursed up Phil Jones.

He's about the same level as John O'Shea and i can't see us quoting O'Shea at 50m

The people at Spurs do have some abnormally thick skin

50 million...damn, even Levy knows he is shite. I thought he would bend Woody over, but this looks like a bargain.

I think if we sign him and Persic for 50M each I'll give up on football.
I will be the first one coming with you. The madness need to stop right here. I rather play with Carrick for another year or even ask players like Schweinsteiger or Memphis to come back. 50M is the ultimate piss take. fecking hell, the price tag is not even above 20m - just PISS OFF!!!!!

with his size, his game, his nationality:
He would be the ideal anchor behind Paul and Ander! just sit in the front of the CB, read the movements of Paul&Ander and pass it to either of one of them.

We've gone absolutely crazy if Dier and Perisic are our targets. They are both incredibly average and wouldn't improve us in the slightest.

It feels like we are using the list that was drawn up in case we missed out on the CL and were in the EL again.

If tbis is who Jose wants as his first choice? Go get him woody

Either that or some fans have just become snobs after they got spoiled by years of chasing the biggest names
