Eric Dier | Poch: “He is an important player for us and the idea is not to sell him."

Do you want United to sign Eric Dier?

What is it he's actually supposed to be good at? I mean I've watched him play plenty of times and I still don't know. That's not a good sign.

He does lots of things ok. He looks like an ok player in a good Spurs team. If you took him out of the Spurs team I'd still think they were a good team.

He's just sort of there. He fits in there because he can cover other people's jobs and is used to the way the team play etc. Every good team has players like that and I can see why Spurs find him useful. I can't see why any of the other top six would find him useful enough to pay money for him.

If he was at United now, who would he play instead of?

We do need a player in that kind of role, but one who's good at it. We already have people who are good at it sometimes, or good at it in certain situations, or ok at it most of the time...we already got rid of two of them due to having too many players like this. We don't need another one. We need a Cante, or Carrick replacement...i.e. someone who is good enough in that position to be nailed down to play there and perform.

The i newspaper has quoted you in their paper today.

Apparently not good enough for us
Yeah... Central midfield was - and has been - our issue. Absolutely overran and lacked physicality. Nothing to do with our inability to create cut chances or finish them off.

Our CM is poor, he'd walk into and instantly improve it. Would rather have had Dier in my midfield today.

To be fair, he's probably had a better season than both of those even if he's been in defence at times.
Except he hasn't at all. Lost out in midfield to Wanyama and has looked very dodgy as a CB.

He's had a few wobbles at CB yes but wouldn't call him dodgy, he's a good young talent and still plenty of time to develop. He won't be a worldy no doubt but as a squad player he's a great option and should develop well. He didn't really lose out to Wanyama I don't think, Wanyama was bought in my opinion as Poch always had an idea of playing with 3 at the back, Dier fits into this system so well. As we seen in the second half today.

Yep, suggesting a mainstay of the team second in the league has been better than two underwhelming players is totally bizarre. Wacko!!

You literally have no footballing insight.

I suggest you try and watch the players play before passing comment.

Pedro is better than Sanchez using that logic. fecking Cleverley was mainstay in our team when we won the league.

Dier has performed better this season than all our CMs (according to the stats), is currently playing for a team much better than ourselves and who hold a higher league ranking (again) yet many think he isn't fit to play for us and wouldn't be an upgrade on our current players.

Strange.

You are taking a really simplistic view. Finishing chances has been our big problem

I think it is a pretty good description of the player. IMourinho likes this type of player though - Obi Mikel.
That's quite lazy cliche with Mikel. Doesn't seem like Mourinho carrying him around to other teams. He's simply a squad player. It's not like Mourinho made him the team captain, and undroppable. Ancelotti even commented that Mikel is similar player to himself. Mikel survived all that time for different coaches too.

Of course it has and I'm not disputing that. My original point has been lost along the way; in my view Dier would be a good player for us and would improve our team (starting 11). I'm amazed that's being disputed.

As a midfielder he isn't better than Pogba or Herrera.

I wouldn't swap him for Pogba or Herrera.

He is a good player but I don't want him because it would take a ridiculous amount of money and I don't think he's worth the amount it would take. Would rather get someone like Fabinho

Anderson has been levels above Gerrard in terms of skill because he's been a mainstay of the team that won CL and numerous PLs.

Levels above.

We should not buy dier just because he is english like carrick

Hmm. After much thought I've come to the realization that if United were to buy Dier, maybe he'd be better used up top seeing as Martial, Rashford and Mkhi (who are all quite clearly players that spurs could only dream of being able to attract by the way) can't score in a brothel.

It's debatable though because United (who are undoubtedly chock full of worldies in every position) have so many players so much better than their Spurs counterparts (despite being worse off points wise than Moyes and LvG currently) that it would be a struggle for Dier to even cement a place.

Buying English is pretty relevant, with the 8 players that needs to be home-grown though.. Carrick, Rooney and Young will be gone within 1-2 years and Jones/Smalling is not the future.. - that's 5 out of 8 players right there.

I've hated his comments on Herrera, but he would make good sense, when he also can cover CB.
