Eric Bailly | BBC say signing is imminent

it's true tbh. i run pl season simulations in my head that take in all kind of permutations and scenarios to see who would be suited to playing in the pl, even for which teams, it's that in depth.

after 3,563 real life sims, the only time he was in the top 5 defenders over the course of 38 games, by any measurable criterion (interceptions, tackles etc) was if all our home games were played with moon gravity instead of earth gravity. we only conceded 1 freak own goal that year as all opposition players floated off into space as they weren't wearing special moon boots. memphis also flew away as alex ferguson (who was managing us again in this sim) nobbled his boots to get rid of him.
There's more sense in here than the average transfer forum post to be fair.

How did nobody know about him when he's the best player of La Liga and therefore the world? Yup.

he went to shit the next year though as we had to sack his mentor, sir alex, after he had his peerage stripped when the queen, suffering from dementia, was convinced he was jimmy saville and threw him into the tower of london, where we was tried for treasonous noncing and publicly executed on tower bridge as a warning to all the other "bbc bush dodgers"

Hard to argue with such evidence-based logic.

Last summer was good business. We got everyone in before we left for pre-season in the first week of July.

True - but there was the farcical ongoing situation with Pedro and the Mane rumours too.

I'm happy with this transfer. As much as people keep saying our defense was solid last season I've always felt we looked shaky. We have just one solid CB, and left and right backs who don't contribute much to our attacks. I'm tired of watching Valencia killing of most of our attacks, Darmian is not much better in that aspect, Rojo is shit, Shaw will be coming back from a long term injury, we need back up for him too. Looking at the big teams, Madrid, Barca, Bayern, they have great ball playing defenders who are good at driving the ball forward. We haven't had that in a very long time

Time for Phil to move on or,at least,go out on loan,I think.

Oh dear Philip, Funny how it all started off with a facial injury.

The BBC still report Memphis' fee as £30m when it was €30m.
Yes because the BBC got one fee wrong let's ignore the fact that they're far and away the most reliable English source. What about every other paper that's reporting it as £30m then? They must also be wrong because it's not like Manchester United under Woodward to overpay right?

I really do think that's what some caftards do.

If all the add-on clauses are triggered it will get to that.

It's like reporting the Martial fee as £60m or whatever it was, it's only getting there if every single clause is met, but the bigger number makes for more clicks.

Phase Of Play? Is that you?

Not too bothered about him having to play African Cup mid season every 2 years, there's always positive... He is resting up & relaxing now, whilst most top Europeans or South Americans are playing on their respective tournaments.
He'll be training, raring to go from day 1!!

More importantly i pray to God all Martials clauses are met as it means we win shitolads and plyer hits Messis standadrs.

I think someone mentioned this is exactly the type of signing they like to see. Unknown, under the radar but very highly rated. I do remember him from a La Liga game against RM. He was very good. He is seriously quick and can actually pass off both feet, unlike Mike. Remember when we signed Vida. Vida who? We all know how that turned out. I think this guy will go straight into the team. He loves a challenge, very rarely gets beaten in a one-on-one. I think he will be an immense signing for us.

Saw him a lot for Villareal this season.

He'll be a right-back for us, at the start, I think. Jose likes his full backs to also be competent CB's and I don't think he's ready to be the stable CB Mourinho strives for yet. Definitely a supreme talent, though. Between him and a (hopefully) fit Shaw we'll have lots of pace on the flanks. An exciting transfer.

Quite pleasing to see that there was absolutely no media reports about this or rumours up until a day before his medical. Hopefully it's a sign of a change in strategy rather than us being linked in the media for months beforehand.

No idea about him but seems to be rated well by those who have seen him. Judging by reports of Blind not being wanted and this guy being signed (who supposedly isn't as fantastic on the ball), a definite change in style is coming from last year thankfully.

Exactly, if these fees reach their highest value it means the player had been a success and at that point nobody will give a feck what they cost.

What do you mean 'one'?

They've got Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin, and Martial's wrong all from last summer.

Interesting player and just 22 years old, which means that he still can develope further. Everyone talked about the likes of Marquinhos, Varane and Stones but instead we might end up with a more "unknown" player in Baily, which I actually dont mind. If Mourinho think he's a player who would fit here, then I trust that. When/if this signing goes through I think it's perfect to celebrate with some Baileys!

I wouldn't be surprised to see another defender like Manolas, Bonucci or Marquinhos bought as well. Blind is to slow for Mourinho, Jones best position is the physio table, and hopefully Mourinho will not let Rojo anywhere near the first team.

People saying 30m EUR is the going rate for a player like him.. but that amount for a player with only 40 appearances in La Liga is still a bit toppy.

Interesting, what do you make of his fullback performances?

I was thinking that as well, with Ivanovic playing RB for Mourinho.

I don't know why I'm excited or even if I'm excited but I know one thing for sure...I might be excited.

So Shaw on the bench for Rojo as well and suddenly we have a Mourinho/Atletico type defense that is great on set pieces and compromised going forward. :wenger:

Young, relatively unknown but rated well in Spain, quick, seems versatile. Happy with this.

What would it mean for TFM if Bailly is a RB signing? Valencia would probably be the cover for RB ahead of him, and I'm not sure how many games he's played as a defensive midfielder - but he'll have even more competition there too.

I might be wrong but I'm pretty TFM best positions are centre back or centre midfield, it was slightly odd that Van Gaal played him at right back.
