Eric Bailly | BBC say signing is imminent

Ah sorry I misunderstood you. Yeah you're probably right, Jose always seems to go for the 4231 and as much as I like him, I really don't see Blind fitting in as a Jose CB or as part of a midfield 2. Can see him spending a lot of time on the bench and coming in to do a decent but never spectacular job when needed at CB, LB or DM.

Will be annoying if he leaves and ends up at a team which suits his abilities though.
Can't imagine Blind or Mata would be happy if they were going to coming off the bench. Some players are happy to do their bit no matter what it is. Those two would want to be starters.

His youtube compilations make him look like a rash player but I guess youtube compilations of defenders do tend to lead with the flashy, high-risk slide tackles rather than solid positioning and interceptions. Looks a bit like David Luiz , but thats not necessarily a bad thing, is it?

To be honest I know nothing about him. But for the first time in a long time we've managed to wrap up a deal with the minimum of fuss. Long may this continue!

This. It has been, what, 2 days since it was mention we're in for him and he's already ours.

Our problems are up front, not in the back. We could sign the new Vidic and it wouldn't change the impotence we have had to endure the last season.
Because we leak stupid goals and cant score teams look to absorb and counter ala palace in the final. We have improved somewhat as the season has gone on but Blind could only ever be a stop gap. Not a long term solution. So this change is a priority. It could and should allow for us to leave less comitted to defending when we have the ball because he has pace. Ohter wise its we try score 6 while the others score 5.

Bailly is what Rojo was supposed to be and is most definitely not. A big strong no nonsense defender. A bit of a Vidic if you like although a raw inexperienced one so expect the odd error.
Looks like he can play a bit too, its not all kicking lumps out of lads. This is someone attackers will be weary of. They cant pull on to the small guy now, or not as much because he is at full back. The kick n chase is not as effective either because its not just smalling they have to out pace and muscle.

Bailly will give us more than just Blinds replacement. A potential real unsung hero in the making. Which will/should allow us more attacking play because he can do his job.

Meh, thought it would be announced today, but rumours floating that they will announce it tomorrow.

And yet Zlatan who's without club is still ongoing, some transfers are just easier than others it's not anything different we're doing now Jose is calling the shots

Maybe that's already wrapped up. I don't want to say anything prematurely but I hope we'll get our transfers more quickly now.

Honestly I can't get excited over this signing. I'll give mourinho the benefit of doubt though as he obviously sees something in him.

Yeah, just checked it was Djemba. Lets hope Bailly will turn out to be a better signing. :D

Can already imagine all the headlines the DM's are going to run with.

The Bailly Shaw (Shaw assist and Bailly scores)
The Bailly Mirror (Presumably does some showboating, he's quite skillful you know)
etc..

Just seeing what others have seen - he reminds me of young Rafael. He tries to nick it before the player. I can see him giving a fair few freekicks away next season but I much prefer him to signing someone like Ramos. We can mold him into an interesting player hopefully.

The BBC have broken news about Mourinho and now Bailly before almost anyone else. It's obvious they've got a source and he/she likes to get the word out through trusted channels.

That should make this Summer's transfer speculation a lot more sane.

I have a feeling this is gonna be the case, a new CB instead of Rojo though.

I think if he manages to get Stones then Rojo is kept as a utility player if not Rojo will be starting as centre back as a faster and stronger version of Blind at LCB. I'd like to see it too. He never let us down playing at centre back. Just all over the gaffe at fullback.

To be fair Bailly's medical was first reported by Daily Mail and our interest in him was first mentioned by Cadena Ser when no one else mentioned him.

I really like what I hear about this player - think it will turn out to be a shrewd signing by Mourinho.

When Shaw is back we will have enough with him and CBJ for that position, also Blind (if he is kept on) can play the position.

So yes Rojo can be CB, hope Mourinho sees that aswell

LvG has addled my brain.

My first thought was 'how can he play as a LCB when he's right footed?'.

But the BBC aren't known to report stories based on speculation. They're a different beast from the red tops. The fact they feel comfortable posting these stories on their homepage suggests they have an inside source.

We've finally got a reputable publication breaking news early. That's a new development for United.

Indeed, a little bit like United interested in Ramos and Bastian. They obviously have a source.
They also reported we met with Mourinho back in Feb
