Never understood the obsession with ball playing defenders. I want my CB to be:

1) Big fecker
2) Good at defending

Bailly is both. Stones is neither.
Not only that, he is actually pretty decent with the ball as well.

This is really turning out to be an excellent signing. I hope he continues this way against the better oppos.

Two man of the match awards now. If he carries on like this he is going to become a firm favourite here. We so often here all this nonsense about ball playing defenders but the majority of those can't really defend but this guy can.

Considering it was a shout out to his family, Kunta Kinte might be some in joke. Seems a bit random to throw a Kunta Kinte reference in there. He does look like him in fairness. It seems way to out of the blue to not have a back story behind it.
How do you know what Kunta Kinte looks like?

Touch of overexcitement on here, there are still raw moments in there, but he looks very promising. Not yet good enough to displace Smalling though.

What a defender, and his ceiling is much higher.

Because I've seen the movie (well, the miniseries). Bailly has got Malachi Kirby's ears and dopey grin. Unless you actually mean the bloke from the 1700s, then I cant help you there.

Smalling who has been average for 6 months is not as good as a defender that has come in and has looked a lot better than him

You having a laugh mate??? He's shown more in three games than Smalling has all last season. Without all the needless grabbing and backwards passing. No comparison for me. Bailly has to start.

Its actually amazing how he adapted to La liga. He's an EPL defender through and through. Love the way he plays. real character in the defense. Just hope his form continues. Looks fit as hell aswell

Two deserved MOTM awards on the trot. Already becoming a fan favourite!

Props to @Dumbstar for spotting this gem during their Europa games against Villarreal. We're glad this one didn't go unnoticed, eh? :p

Thanks Yogami. There wasn't any doubt about him. But one thing is he seems to have the Smalling tendency of getting injured.

Almost flawless today. There is a great highlights vid on YouTube I'm not able to post. His passing was exceptional today and he made their front line look like rag dolls in a couple of challenges  so far so freakin' awesome

Would you believe that he was actually injured up until yesterday? We have a machine on our hands with this guy.

Be honest, it felt good typing that out knowing it'd give us United fans a bit of a scare. Hopefully José works his magic regarding this area, though. :p

My only concern at the moment is him going away to AFCON. I'll miss the nutter.

I love how he had the Bournemouth fans whinging and singing "We only get shit refs" when he hammered Ibe (I think) with a solid but totally fair challenge which wasn't given as a foul.

I agree, I have seen the mini series myself and there is a resemblance between Bailly and the actor. I actually enjoyed the remake better than the original series. I was very impressed with Bailly today and I hope his season gets better and better.

Apparently he was shaking off an injury he got against Leicester and yesterday was the first time he trained with the squad this week.

Impressed with his decision making today. Early yet, but he may well factor in right out of the box.

He's going to be physical, strong, powerful and quick. I take that for granted with him. Those are his fundamental qualities. What caught my eye though, was his poise and reading.

He's going to commit fouls and draw cards. That's a by product of his proactive and aggressive playing style. He makes things imposingly difficult for the opposition. I accept the cost to that when it's reasonable--especially given his age and upside.

What I like is how he imposed himself proactively instead of reactively--like Jones tends to. He saw things coming and decisively felt with them. He didn't do any hero mode recovery work for things he should have dealt with before they were problems.

He plays out of the back in a constructive and safe way. He boots it when it's time, but plays a good, simple ball come time. His touch is surprisingly good for a guy that plays so powerfully.

I wouldn't be surprised if he--in time--emerges as a top, top center half. He might be the find of the window.

He's going to have bad days. It will be saw toothed progression, but he's probably going to trend pretty far upward. The cool part is with Blind and Smalling established, United can easily endure his inevitable dips.

We will seriously miss this guy when he goes to AFCON. Is there any way to stop him or does he have to go?

A no nonsense Panzer tank, just what we need. As he develops more and more though, I fully expect him to become our primary ball playing CB, and with Smalling next to him, it'll be a nightmare for any centre forward trying to beat that duo.

A word of caution, he loves a tackle so at some points this season I expect that to get us in the shit. Let's not go overboard then, young players make mistakes.

For me he's a bit of a combination of the best of Smalling, Blind and Jones....quick, aggressive and good on the ball.

Can you blame us? After the three years we've had! :D

The way you're trying to present Smalling is as if we're talking about Ferdinand or something. Talk about overrating a player. Baily has shown good qualities defensively and is actually good on the ball.

Just watch this video. He is actually really good at playing out of the back and his physicality is incredible.

Just watch this video and try telling me that his distribution is average. He's actually shown more passing range than some of our attacking players and he's pulled off more than at least 90 % of his not so safe passes.

I just remembered he doesnt speak english. Lucky valencia herrera and David do. Especially David.

Wow that's a big miss. Just like us and Mane. I don't like injuries with players but will breathe a sigh of relief if he is outstanding just like you lot probably do with Sturridge.

Yeah I caught that. Not sure what to think really. It looked like Bailly found it funny,if he didn't why would he post it? Maybe it's an inside joke or maybe he doesn't know the reference. Either way it's not something you really want made public (if its a joke between them) as it will undoubtedly cause controversy. While if it is Zlatan being an ass then well... what an ass...:(
That much is clear that it's not an issue to Bailly, but I don't know it just doesn't sit right with me and could very easily be misinterpreted in a negative way. While I don't see it happening, some fans could start calling him Kunta Kinte which I think would be problematic

Why does it cause you discomfort?
Given Roots and I think the importance of the series, I don't really feel comfortable hearing jokes about Kunta Kinte, given the names close association with slavery.

It's crazy to think that he could potentially be our best signing in a window where we've also signed Pogba, Ibra and Mkhitaryan. Been so impressed with him and he's only going to get better.

Looks like he could be a big signing for us, he will still make a lot of mistakes this season though but we'll see how long it takes for calls to drop him.
Good to see a defender just clatter his opponents
