Smalling who has been average for 6 months is not as good as a defender that has come in and has looked a lot better than him
Nonsense. Everyone talks about Blind, or player x being the 'most underrated' but at the minute it's definitely Chris Smalling.

Why did people assume he was poor on the ball anyways/ I keep reading people going on about how surprised he is good on the ball etc, where did this idea of him being poor on the ball came from?

or is it because he is like a tank and exhumes physicality and people automatically assumed he was going to be poor on the ball and one of those hoof the ball defenders? Or is it because people are used to Smalling or Jones, good at defending(at least Smalling still is, Jones?) but technically subpar and poor on the ball.

Bailly: Feasting on the power of the dead.

This guy is special. It's looking like he's going to be a sensational signing for us. If Rio and Vidic had a baby Bailly would be the result. On a serious note though he was so good for us today once again. Fully deserved his second MOTM in a row. It's like he's been playing in England for years. The lad has everything. Probably get sent off for us a few times this season so lets hope it doesn't cost us too much. Hopefully he can get that side of his game ironed out before then. Phenomenal signing Jose, well done.

Spot on

Touch of overexcitement on here, there are still raw moments in there, but he looks very promising. Not yet good enough to displace Smalling though.

Why is it over excitement, two man of the match awards in a row from a relatively inexperienced defender that cant even speak English coming from a different league that loos to have all the attributes to be a real quality defender. I dont think he will displace Smalling, he will partner him

It will be Smalling and Bailly as the CB pairing. Bailly looks good. Smart, quick, strong and confident. He will make a mistake eventually (everyone makes a mistake) but looks a serious signing.

Smalling has been really average for the last month more like. Bar the youngsters breaking through he is the one positive of Van Gaals reign, most improved player for most of last season where he finally started to look like a quality centre back until the last few games.

If Mourinho can improve Jones as Smalling did under Van Gaal we would have really good defensive options for the first time in quite a while.

Behave yourself, most of us are excited about Baillys potential but cmon its been a community shield and Bournemouth. Lets not get carried away. People did the same with Darmian last season now they dont want him anywhere near the team.

I agree, if he continues as he did last season bar the end of it, he was the most improved player

Like a proper old school centre half from the 70's or 80's - he just bullies players of the ball!

You're right but I don't know why. We just spent the last two years hyping Smalling up on here to the levels where you would think reading here he was an elite player. Apparently we don't rate him so high any more.

Checked the Bounmouth forum and they said that Bailly was fantastic and one even said it was one of the best centre back performances they've seen at their ground. Its always nice to get compliments from the opposition.

I keep seeing the word 'raw'. If this is him raw, then when he he's done, every striker in the EPL is cooked.

He's fecking rawwwwww (Gordon Ramsey voice) - In all seriousness I can't wait to watch him develop. I'd rather he be raw than well done. I'll get my coat.

I like that he's also a leader at the back. Constantly talking to his teammates.
What language is he speaking to them in? Thought he only spoke French?

(edit: forgot he knows some Spanish from his time in La Liga.)

Given Roots and I think the importance of the series, I don't really feel comfortable hearing jokes about Kunta Kinte, given the names close association with slavery.
Don't mean to be rude but so fecking what if you're offended. Obviously Zlatan isn't racially abusing him live on TV.

Every time he stops playing he becomes terrible, then when he does and he saves our arses several times throughout the year he is 'one of the best CBs in world football'. There's no middle ground:lol:.
In honesty, I don't know how well Blind will play against better teams, therefore I think Smalling should be starting all games and Blind either on the bench or in midfield.

Early days, but he looks like having potential of becoming a super star CB.

Praying Pogba brings some blessing from Uncle Paddy back for the number 3 shirt so he can stay off the injury plague.

With Bailly and Bling as CB, when was the last time we had two ball playing centre backs. It has been long since we have seen CB as cool as ice in possession of the ball. Both him and Blind are calm under pressure and rough when needed. If he continues his form, De Gea finally might have less to do this season as compared to last two.

I didn't say he was, simply a joke which I would consider borderline inapprapriate and for what it's worth, it wasn't live on tv either.

Never heard of him before we signed him, but now he's quickly becoming one of my favorite players.

Big, strong, fast, crazy and very good on the ball. What's not to like?

You having a laugh mate??? He's shown more in three games than Smalling has all last season. Without all the needless grabbing and backwards passing. No comparison for me. Bailly has to start.
Pretty sure Smalling was being lauded by some on here as one of the best center backs on earth here at certain points last season, bit of a jump for Baily to suddenly displace him, irrelevant of playing well in two friendlies and against Bournemouth.

Bailly has only had two decent matches. Smalling had many last season when he was just as good if not better than those two. It's insane to proclaim him the better player at the moment.

Finally we have a player who gets stuck in. We were too soft recently and with him, we wont get bullied

Bailly has looked amazing. He is an ogre, and very confident on the ball. Just a great signing.

People are just randomly throwing the word RAW because of his age and the fact hat they know he is kind of inexperienced at this level, so they feel like saying he is RAW makes sense.

Being rash in some challenges doesn't mean the guy is RAW. He's shown composure and a level of maturity that warrant him not be called RAW as some like throwing after ever sentence. Rashness is how he plays, it doesn't matter how many games he gets or experienced he become, it'll always seem like he's coming in hard and it'll stay that way. Doesn't anything to do with being RAW rather it's how he plays.

No, it's because despite his great start he has a couple of times in both games jumped in too early to leave a big gap, forcing Blind to come flying across with a recovery tackle, and also shanked a couple of clearances under little pressure.

It's no big deal, but he'll have added a little more composure and become a shade more selective before he's a mature player.

Early days, but he has the look of Vidic about him -no nonsense. Smalling might have a job on his hands if JM decides to stick with Bailly and Blind. Blind deserves to keep his place for the meantime anyway.

I do think he can be a top defender eventually but he is going to cost us penalties and get the odd red card but still its great to have an all action defender who takes no prisoners again.

Like any other centre back would.

He is a nuisance to the striker as he is always on their back kicking or flicking the ball no matter how the striker shields it. What i have seen so far is he has the no nonsense approach of clearing the ball which reminds me very much of Vidic.
