Enzo 'Terry' Fernandez | Vice-Captain of Chelsea

Bit strange some of the takes on here for one main reason.
A lot if people saying he was good/class, that's despite giving the ball away repeatedly.

I bet the same people chastise Bruno every match for the exact same thing!

He looked OK last night, obviously a good player but found it difficult with Fulham's press and will take time to adjust to the style in the premiership.

But he gave the ball away quite a few times last night and in dangerous positions, he will have to get used to being pressed in that manner as every team will do that.

He looked good. Very classy and composed with very limited support from the other midfielders. I didn’t expect him to be playing as deep as he did, and wonder if that is Potters plan for him going forward. Given he had only had a day or two of training with the squad, he did will.

He is a complete midfielder? Maybe he's not apex Essien or Keane or Vieira in that they genuinely could be one man midfields on their own, but the game has evolved.

He had more tackles and passes than Mount and Gallagher combined, in both categories. Pigeonholing him as a specialist is misguided - he's good at more or less everything you'd want a midfielder to be good at.

He's been in Europe for less than a year, hasn't even played 100 career games, not even 50 in Europe. Hardly warrants being praised to the high heavens just yet.

People still think that complete midfielders exist, incredible really. Of course, he'll need very good players around him to be at his best like basically every other midfielder ever.
The complete midfielder does exist, his name is Casemiro.

Decent quality little player, not Sabitzer/Casemiro level obviously, but could get there with the right partner, an extraordinary dose of good fortune, and consistent top class coaching in a fair few years with a zero-distractions approach to football in order to eradicate his crippling flaws.

TBF, Fulham's pressing game last night was impressive. Enzo is a fine press-resistant player and dribbler. But he is not at an elite level( like De Jong, Modric, or even Kovacic) in this category. Maybe, I'm sure he will develop his composure with the ball in the future( he is a different type from an elite ball-carrier midfielder).

The rate this thread’s going, it’ll be in 2.
Yep. There was many things that could be used to take a shot at us last night and people have gone after one of the bright sparks

I get the price tag elevates expectations but still, Souness' comments especially were ridiculous.

You must worry he’s going to be your Pogba though surely?

Nah not really. Pogba got jerked around and played out of position by poor management - how many games was he actually allowed to play in front of a dedicated defensive midfielder in a 3 man midfield the way he always excelled for Juve and France? He kept getting shoehorned into a role as a 6 and it detracted from his game.

Enzo is a bit more flexible tactically than Pogba and it already seems we have a sense of how best to use him, which is encouraging.

If I was praising him to the high heavens then I'd be putting him on a pedestal with those all-time greats. The number of games he's played has very little to do with how complete his skillset is - unless in your post when you claimed he wasn't a complete midfielder you were referring to experience?

Never got this obsession with players have to be proven over x amount of games in x leagues.

That thinking is how we got lumbered with the likes of Lukaku and Torres when basic due diligence would have told us to stay well clear.

Had a decent game. Can instantly tell his class within 5 minutes. Still think he'd be better as a no.8 but unfortunately we sold our only holder in Jorginho and the others (who aren't really holders) are injured. Will probably buy someone in the summer.

Will get better with time as he gets to know the players.
But that team has no cohesion, and some players really need to leave

Yeah some players you can see they have that world class talent within minutes. He's definitely one. Shame he's there.

Indeed not like he was one of the best players in a world cup winning side recently

Throw enough darts as Chelsea have done recently and one of them is going to hit.

The problem for them is they need multiple ones to hit.

Even besides the assist he was spectacular - lost count of how many counters he initiated with inch-perfect through balls. Also more than held his own defensively.

Absolutely colossal upgrade over Jorginho - both defensively and especially in terms of our transition game.

Was the assist actually aimed for Felix? Seemed like a misshit for the runner above.

I don’t know if €121 million can be considered throwing a dart mate.

Giving up CL with Benfica for the conference league?
I’d rather take no Europe than participate in that joke competition. But I guess we could add it to our ever growing list of European Silverware

Good player but 100mil??
Dearie, dearie me....the money in football transfers has gone crazy.

I guess United should look for the next Bellingham, the same stuff could be said about him, according to your argument.
Bellingham is three years younger, so much development for him ahead. Not that I rate him particularly much higher, at least for now.. Both really overhyped and overpriced players but it's the sellers market as we all know.

We can give him a chance all we want but we all know he’ll be worth half of what Chelsea paid for him at best.
Which sounds harsh but it’s nearly 70m
