Enzo 'Terry' Fernandez | Vice-Captain of Chelsea

Not sure what more if anything people will expect from him, this was his influence at the world cup in a nutshell. Chelsea need a functioning midfield to work alongside him.

He was very obviously Chelsea's best player on the night. Needs to have better players than Mount and Gallagher around him. Everything positive that happened for Chelsea went through Enzo.

Looks a solid player but... that is a big over payment. Did he really do much more than Jorginho would have tonight?

He's much stronger defensively than Jorginho.

Thought he played well tonight, difficult game and surrounded with Mount and Gallagher, g99d performance.

He looked good overall, and particularly given that he has hardly trained with the team.

Whether a player of his profile is ever going to be worth 120m euro is another question. There are a lot of talented midfielders out there.

Expecting more offensively with that price so let’s see how he progresses

He was fine tonight but he's not the player you build a midfield around, needs a proper DM and CAM alongside him while he plays as the 8

He's not a match-winner on his own, though not many DMs are. The fee is obviously ginormous for his type of player, but he's still clearly pure class and someone who'd have also been ace at Utd.

He's not even a DM he's an allrounder, I think he would do better a bit further up honestly.

He would have been the perfect partner for Casemiro IMO.

Get a DM and he will flourish. He was playing bit behind today. Decent debut if you forget the price tag.

I’ve paid little attention to this transfer but I’m assuming the media have torn it to shreds? 120m for a player that no one knew before the World Cup. Surely the geniuses like Merson and Souness have a lot to say about this or is that only when we sign a player?

Yeah, I was thinking the same. Probably offers more athleticism and pulls out a longer pass more often than Jorginho might bother with, but it's hardly night and day.

His future might be further forward and he could be more of a difference maker there, but you'd think twice about paying that money even if he was prime Essien for them.

If you sign a good DM you could unlock Pogba… I mean Fernandez?

He was pretty good I thought. A more defensive-minded player than I thought he was based on that performance.

For 120m you shouldn't have to expect a player to only shine with a 'proper DM' next to him.
Wrong. Depends on what you are buying. You can't buy one type of profile and expect him to be a world beater in a different position.

I guess United should look for the next Bellingham, the same stuff could be said about him, according to your argument.

To be honest, I don't want to go near him for that reason. I can see that deal not working out due to him not being at that stage we expect him to be at when joining, particularly in midfield. A lot of what makes a good central midfielder comes with experience, and he doesn't have that. I don't think any current midfielder is worth that fee given how tactical the game currently is. I felt that way every time I watched Pogba as well. People were expecting a matchwinner who can grab a game by its neck, no central midfielder in the world can do that at the moment due to how the game is played now. Skillsets to fit a team of midfielders should be what is considered.

I also don't think the disparity in quality between top central midfielders ( not DM's or AM's) is that much. The world cup showed this. I can't imagine spending 100m on Bellingham knowing that Bennacer might have more attributes in his skillset that suit our team. It's the reason the Pogba move didn't work.

For that price, you would expect a complete midfielder.

He is a complete midfielder? Maybe he's not apex Essien or Keane or Vieira in that they genuinely could be one man midfields on their own, but the game has evolved.

He had more tackles and passes than Mount and Gallagher combined, in both categories. Pigeonholing him as a specialist is misguided - he's good at more or less everything you'd want a midfielder to be good at.

Would've been perfect at United next to Casemiro. Shame he's gonna waste his career there
