Enzo 'Terry' Fernandez | Vice-Captain of Chelsea

You don't need to be the fastest player to beat Enzo Fernandez in a foot race. Fernandez should never be in that position where he's the last man defending the quick transition. And it's not a surprise to see him toasted by Ayedemi.

Aside from the goal, him, Felix, James and Ziyech are the only ones who can create something.

It's such a shame he's playing so deep, as soon as someone not named loftus cheek can play DM and free Enzo, things are gonna be really different.

He had a good shot in the end.

40-50 mill would have been a fair price I reckon. Nothing about him screams world class. Decent midfielder.

They get compared a lot and I thought Bellingham was levels above him tonight, and is just overall a better player.

You’ve named 4 players there. That’s not a small number by any means.

Potter leaving Enzo back as the last man against fecking Adeyemi is ludicrous malpractice

Nah, this game is on the attack. No goal scorer in the team. Conceding one away at Dortmund isn't unexpected.

We've got to score at least once with all our chances. xG was over 2.

When he started crying and dropped to the floor like a child when the keeper saved it ? What a tit

Yeah he was never going to be able to stop Adeyemi as the last man, that's on the manager. He looked good otherwise

Doesn't matter what the xG is - it's ludicrous management to expose ourselves to that extent needlessly away in a CL knockout tie.

Why in god's name is Chilwell taking a right sided corner when Ziyech is on the pitch? Why is Ziyech even in the team if not for his ability to take corners?

Was just a freak blind clearance that went straight to Adeyemi, he does perfectly and scores.

If we've converted our chances then not a big deal made of it.

Disagree.

He's shown world class potential. Chelsea may overpay up to 40mil, but his talent level is definitely between 50mil and 100mil; and closer to 100mil side. Inflation is mad, and being one of the notably best performer in World Cup leave little to bargain down the price.

If we could have got him for 70-80mil, I would say it's a fair price.

A freak occurrence implies that it's unavoidable. It was perfectly avoidable to not have Enzo as the last man back just so Chilwell can take a corner instead of Ziyech.

So weird to me that people seem utterly convinced that this guy is worth the money paid. Or will even go on to be a top PL midfielder. He had a good (but not amazing) World Cup but there’s loads of players who’ve had better world cups and gone on to not much. Before that he had, what? Half a season of looking very good in the Portugese league? How many of you hailing him as the second coming watched every game he played in Portugal? Did he really stand out as miles better than, say, Darwin Nunez? What is it with football fans and this weird notion that they can make such accurate predictions about footballer’s potential when history is littered with countless examples of players that had all the hype in the world and amounted to feck all.

He got owned by Adeyemi tonight, besides that he had a good game. Wont say I didnt enjoy that happening to Chelsea and specially to Enzo

I did. And yes - there's no fecking comparison between him and Darwin. Enzo was very very obviously the best player in the league by miles - Darwin was the second best striker after Mehdi Taremi during his breakout year and the year before that was crowned the worst signing in the league.

You watched every Benfica match in the first half of this season? Why?!?

He's a good player but solid world cup upped his price by about 50 million.

Check the location on his profile, might explain it...

I was under the impression Barry is the one who's been in charge of set-piece strategies since Lampard's time at the club? Maybe the blame still falls on the head coach when silly things like this happens but risky attacking set-plays are nothing new at the club and were already a thing under Lamps and Tuchel.

So true. Chelsea fans on here will never admit this. Even though it's not even their money.

Oh it's definitely a shitload of money, and a sign of the club being desperate to sign one of the highest rated young midfielders out there. It was now or never for us to sign Enzo (whether an immediate move or a pre-agreement for next summer) and I'm pretty sure he'd have gone somewhere else if we'd waited till the summer to pounce.

Benfica even offered a €20M discount to make it a summer move instead, our club would have taken it but Enzo himself wanted to move right away. Them being willing to drop 20M€ off the price at the drop of a hat obviously implies there's a lot of overpayment involved.

I don't know which of our fans will not admit it but the feeling I get is most of us 100% know there's an element of overpayment involved, but also recognize the fact it was a signing for a position where there was absolutely a huge need for a top player to rebuild the midfield around so won't care too much about the price and are just happy to have got him.

Everyone bar Alphonso Davies gets cooked in a 1v1 with Adeyemi.

Enzo is gonna become a good to great player. I think that is pretty obvious. But €120m is still way too much at this point in his career.

Fair enough. I suspect that puts you in a tiny minority in this thread, mind you.

Oh on that we agree 100%!

Side note - the same was true of all the dumb Liverpool fans crowing about what a coup Darwin was, and watching them huff copium has provided me more than a morsel of joy during this awful season.

He's looked very good in the few times I've seen him. I pay no attention to transfer fees as we aren't one to talk anyway.

As for the goal last night, he got cooked 1v1 by the fastest player on the pitch. No shame in that. Would be more annoyed at the tactical set up from the corner than anything else. Looks like Potter didn't do his homework.

Don't see what difference that would make; Adeyemi might have been the fastest player on the pitch. I think it would be the same result with Chilwell not taking the corner.
