Television Entourage

Seriously? There's 7 seasons right, and only the last is crap? That's great to hear I thought I was going to have sieve through 2/3.

Yeah I loved all of it. There are weak moments, especially the last season, but overall it's great fun to watch.

The reviews for the film are pretty dire. Though I always expect these things to review poor from the critics. I'll still give it a watch, but not expecting much.

comedies rarely get good reviews do they? Even on IMDB good comedies are rarely over 6.5 it seems

Dr Strangelove has 8.5, Annie Hall has 8.1, In the Loop has 7.5. If something is good it'll get the recognition, and as it happens, a lot of comedies are shit.

edit; actually, the Entourage film has 8.5, so even if it's not good it'll get recognition.

I'm fully expecting it to be shit, not based on any reviews, but the last few seasons. I'm going to watch, though, obviously.

I don't really care about reviews TBH. I'm a big fan of the show and if it is more of the same type of stuff I know I'll love it!

I've booked in to watch it on Monday night in some advanced showing at my local cinema (comes out the 19th here IIRC) so I'm pretty excited. Been waiting a long time for this to happen :D

The show was absolutely woeful post-season 3, and even that wasn't very good. They even ruined Ari Gold by just given him endless time instead of being the superb support he was at the start.

With a $30m budget and likely $50m on advertising/marketing, it's a shame it's impossible to bomb.

I think the trailer looks great.

Looks like the Entourage of the first few seasons.

Watching the whole series again in build up to the movie.

Really forgot how hilarious this show is.

Saw the movie tonight. Pretty decent, though it felt more like an extended episode of the show than a feature film.

Thought the movie was pretty boring for the most part. Every Ari scene was great as always, so there's that, but the others are all just annoying really, with the exception of Drama occasionally. They definitely should have just made it into a show though.

After seeing the posters for the film and people talking about it in the past as a show, I decided to start watching it on monday. With this week off, I finished off the entire series and think it's up there with the best comedies I have ever seen on tv. Loved it to pieces and gutted I went through it all at once now; Like most others in this thread through the years, Gold and Drama made it for me, with Lloyd providing a brilliant bond with Ari that I haven't seen matched.

Going to watch the film tomorrow in hope that they don't screw up what was a very good tv ending in my view.

Did you see the post credit scene to the final episode?

I started watching the TV series when I first saw the movie trailer, thought it was fantastic. What I don't understand is that why the show; despite winning many awards, seems to be ridiculed by most? I don't understand why it gets so much negative attention. Ari Gold is up there with one of my favourite characters I think.

I think the film being good will largely depend on people who have seen the series. If you've watched it you already know the personalities and what they've all been through and what to expect from each guy, whereas if you've not I can imagine it's just any old average film with a load of cameos.

Does it get ridiculed? I don't think I've ever had a conversation about it bar online, never seems to get mentioned. Not sure many in the UK have seen it.

What? You could apply that to almost any show ever. Breaking Bad, Sopranos, Songs of Praise, The Wire - all of them.

It's more like how some people saw Wall Street or The Wolf of Wall Street and thought, "hey Gordon Gecko/Jordan Belfort are cool guys."
The main difference, if there is one, is that Doug Ellin probably does think they're cool guys, whereas Oliver Stone and Scorsese surely didn't.

I never thought they came across as cool. Not even Vince. Turtle and Jonny seemed to be the lovable idiots you laugh at, but not cool. I assumed everyone always thought E was either an ass or at best an everyman. Maybe Vince since he had no problem getting girls and having money but he was never doing anything interesting really.

Yeah I think the show for the first few seasons were closer to satire. The later seasons and especially the film though I think it became a bit of a back patting scenario. The film is just...a wank.

Bumping a very old thread here but caught a couple of episodes of this today, mid season 2 and thought it was great.

Is it worth a watch? 8 seasons is a long sit

It didn't age very well, I'll be honest.
In absolution yes but for example the stuff Ari says to Lloyd can be looked at more as a reflection of the kind of language that was commonplace in that industry at the time. Kinda like slavers using the n word in Django or whatever.

It's a pretty good time capsule to the mid to late 2000's though, I'll give it that. You really get a sense of how the average dudebro was back then.

Yeah but Ari is a protagonist, he doesn't get shot in the end. In Django the slavers are the bad guys and they get it in the end. We're supposed to like Ari.
