English & Irish Cricket Summer 2018

Nah, Ashwin averages in the mid 30s in test cricket. Plus, he used to open in the early stages of his domestic career.

I actually think Jadejas far better away from home the Ashwin in regards to their bowling. We may see the former replacing the latter in the tour of Australia.

Jadeja averages 44 in first-class vs Ashwin's 31. Ashwin actually averages less than Jadeja in tests now too.

Interesting about the test averages.

Wouldn't read too much into the first class averages. Jadeja plays on the flattest wicket on the entire planet. However, he has shown that he's more than capable in these conditions.

Jennings

Shami finally gets his reward.

Wretched summer for Jennings, not good enough and should not tour Sri Lanka.

fecking hell Jennings has had an appalling game to go with an appalling Summer.

Cook retiring might save his place for the tour to Sri Lanka. He's a lucky lucky man if he's opening the bat the next test because he has been rotten.

He's been shite but so have most the batsmen. Rahul, Dhawan, Rahane, Root, Cook, Bairstow etc. haven't really performed to their standards either.

I bet none of those have gone 18 innings without making a 50 though.

Root and Bairstow have shown they can do it at Test level. Jennings has not.

The mode of Jennings' dismissals also suggests he just won't cut it at this level either.

Surely Shami needs to get closer to the stumps. Sure he's beaten the edge plenty of times, but the batmen have hardly had to play at the ball.

Bit of an endurance test watching this. The run rate is so low.

Trescothick was an all-time great player and misser, would always just leave his bat there to protect off stump.

How on earth has the ball needed to be changed so many times in 39 overs, it's not like England are smashing it about.

Another gripping day of cricket. This has been a tremendous series. England in control but you always have that feeling that one wicket can bring three or four.

Cook playing without pressure. Having terrible opening partners for 2 years has done him no favours.

Always liked that Jasprit Bumrah.

Afternoon session should be fun. With Bairstow, Stokes and Buttler in next we don't even need to change the order to get the sloggers in.

Reckon we'll aim to declare around half an hour into the evening session.

Good for him to get the monkey of his back, but I'm not sure that's a hugely encouraging hundred in terms of addressing the reasons why he hasn't been scoring many of them. He just got away with it a bit more today.

300 odd ahead with Stokes, Bairstow and Buttler left to come in, hope they just tee off.
