English & Irish Cricket Summer 2018

There's already two instances I remember. A test match against Saffers where bad light and a test match against NZ where McCullum scored a tripe century.

I don't remember the South Africa bad light one but the McCullum triple century was a bit different as they were batting in the 3rd innings. England can only hope to give India a bloody nose here.

They all seem like pricks though  the only regulars in the test team who seem like okay guys are cook, root and jimmy. The rest of them always give off the vibe of being dicks  that’s my impression anyway.
Did you just say Jimmy is okay lmao

Yeah. India are a wicket away from winning the game.

I am not sure if the indian posters here are jinxing or do they really believe england can chase 500 from four down

 with one of the English batsman injured as well.

I suspect it's just a bit of jinxing banter.

Bah, if these two had stayed together we could have a fascinating last day, espiecailly if they’d survived the first hour.

Brilliant delivery. Was thinking before the test I wouldn't pick bumrah. He has bowled brilliantly .

Yeah, but that series is a huge anomaly in his stats. He averaged 30 odd for the two to three years before it, averaged 30 odd after it and in his last two years in test cricket averaged closer to 15 or 20 (I can't be bothered to look the stats up again, but they're on cricinfo).

He's having a good season, but it's his first in a long time and at 36 it's just a backwards step.
If only more of our batsmen averaged 30! Most of them can't even do that it seems.

Terrific bowling. Lot of Indian fans will know this, but having sat through some absolutely tumescent bowling in test cricket over many many years as an Indian, it's wonderful to see this.

Best thing is that there is no longer a reliance on 1 or 2 bowlers. 5 out of the last 6 overseas tests, we've got 20 wickets! If only our batting starts clicking...

Have to say he's been terrific in this spell. Great to see India have someone with a bit of gas at last.

Still think his action will hold him back but he's been great to watch today.

Possibly, yes. He may slowly adjust over time to extend his career.

This England batting side really needs open heart surgery, I expect just one change, Vince, Burns or Mo for Bairstow depending on what way they want to go

Not really very progressive, but neither was Rashid. But there was an article on BBC which made a case for Ian Bell

Nice to see Buttler and Stokes have a bit of stomach for a battle, however they need to bat like that all the time rather than get nice looking 20s and 30s that mean nothing. The ills of the England batting lineup all come down to the top 3 not being able to bat long enough to get the ball soft and allow the talented middle order to cash in. The likes of Stokes, Bairstow, Ali, Woakes, Buttler, Curran, Bess, Wood and Jamie Overton have all played knocks to either bail out the top order or at least add a veneer of respectability to the final score. The slip fielding is also a huge concern.

They need to get Root back to 4 and take a plunge on an entirely new top 3 I feel (who and how I have no idea). I also sense perhaps that a fresh perspective in terms of coaching would also help push this squad a bit further in harnessing their potential on a more consistent basis. England now are so much more frustrating to watch than the side of the late 90s because there is a proper team somewhere underneath it all with this lot. For the next test I'd like to see:

Cook/Jennings
Burns
Vince (he's the most in-form batsman)
Root
Pope
Stokes
Buttler
Ali
Woakes
Broad
Anderson

In the long run England could do worse than try to convert Bairstow to an opener and take the gloves off him.

Love the kids' attitude and mentality. However, Risabh Pant is not good enough to be a keeper at this stage in his career. His initial movement is all wrong. He's not following the ball and stretching his hands instead of getting his body behind the ball. Coaching and experience should sort out the issue.

Massive credit to Virat.

Just heard his post-match interview. I had my doubts about his captaincy. He's matured so much as a person and leader. Must be marriage and Anushka.

Curious @Sultan What nationality are you?

Agree with your post.

This win feels great. Away test matches still have such a unique feeling. Proud of the guys but no repeats of 2014, please.

I also think a left-hand seamer would help. At the moment all the seamers are too similar.

Difficult to work out who to drop though. Dobell reckons they'll go for Joe Clarke so assuming they bring Mooen in as well (they've done dafter things) difficult to see where they fit in Curran again.

Although I agree with you, I do think that a line up of Cook, Burns, Root, Clarke, Pope, Stokes, Buttler, Mooen, Woakes, Broad, Anderson looks less flakey than one which would probably have to have five seamers in and Stokes batting at 5 (or Mooen) to make it work.
