English & Irish Cricket Summer 2018

Bairstow injured. If this is serious that could mean one less batsman.

Just my observation:

Having kept wicket all my cricket playing days Bairstow's technique was all wrong when catching that bowl, causing his injury. His fingers should have been pointing towards the ground, instead, he had them pointing towards the ball.

I don't understand the English bowling tactics this innings. What's with all the short stuff? Seems like too much effort for no reward.

You never know with the wayward swing after the ball passes the stumps.

Swing doesn't detract from the fact the technique was wrong. If anything that makes chances getting injured worse.

Generally, the kids in their early years have fingers pointing towards the ball.

Do you think India will declare soon? Absolutely no way England will make 463. We'd do well to make 400.

Should declare now and have an hour to bowl at the England top order.
Don't think so personally. There are still 6 sessions /180+ overs to go and 500 can be chased down if the pitch improves. Yes it's not probable but it's not impossible.
So since the weather looks good since there is enough time, it's better not to take a risk IMO
Plus if more Indian batsmen can find some form, it will be good for the team since there are two more tests after this
Not to mention the psychological advantage of a big win, especially for India as it will help silence the critics

Thanks I needed a good laugh after yesterday.

What's the logic behind playing out the over before declaring?

Another great day. Kohli is insane. Best player in all formats and continues to get better. Hope Ashwin feels better, we'll need him.

The match will be over before close of play tomorrow. This England test team is full of t20/odi players. Very few of them no how to play a proper test innings

Quick round-up of what's going in County Championship right now as it will heavily inform the likely selection for the next 2 tests from an England perspective:

Moeen, 107* and 2/40 inc. bowling Kane Williamson
Rory Burns currently 62* not in a D/N match vs Lancs (the highest score by anyone through 3 innings)
James Vince scored 74 & 147 vs Notts.
Jack Leach with 2-27 off 19 overs at Taunton vs Essex.
Sam Curran, 40 & 1-69 off 17 overs.

I suspect Burns in for Jennings, Moeen in for Bairstow at the very least. They might plump for Vince ahead of Moeen as the next test is in Southampton, depends on the pitch.

They won't do it, but Bairstows injury gives them the chance for a reshuffle which is much needed.

Root shouldn't be at 3. He's better at 4 and our best player should bat in his best position.

Buttler should take the gloves if he's batting at 7.

I'd bring Burns in for Bairstow bat him at three (or either of Cook or Jennings if its thought they would do better there).

Cook, Jennings, Burns, Root, Pope, Stokes, Buttler, Ali, Woakes, Broad, Anderson looks like a better mix of styles to me.

Talking about county cricket, abbas is doing pretty well.

I have no idea why England gave up on Ali , he is much more suited to this attack as he can keep one end tight and let the seamers attack . He also offers much more with the bat. If cook doesn't succeed in this innings there needs to be serious questions about his place specially because he is looking really bad against Ishant and Ashwin. England attack is far too dependent on conditions and lacks pace tbh

Is there a way for them to turn into 11 Chanderpaul’s might be able to bat longer than a day then

Reading through BBC comments on the cricket page, there seems to be a lot of English people angry that Stokes was selected ahead of Curran.. Stokes seems to have this sort of hate which is surprising for me as I thought he was a good player for you guys.. Why the hate? Lot of them don't think he was guilt free in that case too, just that the police had him under the wrong charge..

BBC comments are a cesspit of far right morons. In this instance I can only imagine they are annoyed Stokes didn't help the homophobes batter a gay couple.

More seriously, Stokes is a prick and the English public doesn't like pricks even (or especially) when they're talented.
