Geoff Boycott knighted for services to sport, not in recognition of his services to wife beating:

If you ever do anything wrong in your life you do not deserve anything at all, whatever you do after the bad thing?

A bit like the stick Giggs gets. His entire, illustrious career wiped out in some people's minds, because he did something that thousands of other people have also done.

I am not excusing what either of them have done, but it has no bearing on their careers in sport and the 2 should not be confused.

I'm searching for white text in this post. Such a shit show.

Someone's opinion is a shit show?

Boycott has always denied the charge, and he was found guilty in a foreign court - not sure if you're British but if you are then good luck ever being acquitted of anything in a foreign court.

People who are vilifying Boycott are simply assuming that because he was found guilty in France, he must actually be guilty and his comments.....

It's very difficult to prove your innocence in another country, in another language.

I have to live with it - and I do. I'm clear in my mind, and I think most people in England are, that it's not true.

... are just there to be ignored. There are 2 sides to every story.

I loved Boycotts commentary when I was young, seemed very unbiased and used to talk frankly if, and mock, everyone regardless of which team they were.

For the knighthood, I'm not even going to try and give an opinion on that

Alternatively he may have struggled to prove his innocence because he wasn't innocent, of course.

I'm not going to comment or whether or not Boycott deserves a knighthood or not. However, since he supposedly got it for his services to cricket I will say that he was possibly the most hated player ever BY HIS OWN TEAM MATES exemplified by being run out deliberately by Ian Botham in a test match in Christchurch in 1978.

http://www.espncricinfo.com/magazine/content/story/604169.html

He was also definitely the most selfish player I have ever seen.

You’re quite right, he may have

According to Boycott, Moore had grown angry when he refused to marry her, stating that "he was not the marrying kind" and had fallen when throwing his clothing from the window, hitting her head on the carpet.[179] However, when he again appealed against his conviction, Moore's version of events that Boycott had attacked her by punching her in the face, causing bruising, was upheld, in the light of photographs of her injuries shown to the court and the testimony of a doctor that the injuries could not have been caused in the way described by Boycott.[180]

I'm sorry mate but I'm not sure how you say that his conviction was based on his poor French(as you implied in the previous post).

He's an absolute legend of the game but when you commit domestic violence then you absolutely deserve to be remembered for that.

Right, and I know which person I'm believing here.

I'll give you a hint. It's not the racist, convicted abuser who organised the rebel tour to South Africa.

That's the ludicrous thing about this, even if you discount the expert testimony of a doctor that those injuries are not consistent with slipping and falling on some carpet and argue that Boycott was somehow the victim of a huge miscarriage of justice because the French court works in contravention to the ECHR (as he claimed), then the bloke has still done and said enough truly objectionable shit to make the idea that he should be honoured for his services to cricket absolutely laughable.

In all honesty, I have no idea why he's still entertained by the BBC and we haven't all tried to forget he ever played the game.

Boycott was soft as shite. Lived with his mother all his life.

If he did it then yes he deserves every bit of shit he gets.

But it's a big debatable if. He couldn't cause those injuries with a bat nevermind his body.

I remember playing at Hyde mate. There was a properly steep hill down one side of the ground if I'm not mistaken.
Yeah, it was once just an overgrown mess but the bottom of the hill got levelled some years back now and has the practice nets on it. The ground has improved massively over the last decade or so.

At the end of the day, he was found guilty by a court of law. If we're going to declare him innocent we're basically taking his word over a judge's.

Normal people don't do those sorts of things.

What are your thoughts on Michael Jackson or any of the other creeps or abusive cretins that have been successful in their professional fields?

Don't know a great deal about Cricket but have really enjoyed this summer and the Ashes especially. The World Cup was exciting but the Ashes feels like the pinnacle.

How good is Pat Cummins btw? Seems to have it all, even the looks of a Hollywood star from the 50's.

Where abouts are you from? I'm interested to know why/how you're a late comer to cricket.

And agree on Cummins, he's a very talented and handsome unit.

Regarding Cummins not surprised about his bowling as he's world class but bit surprised to see him not contributing much to Aussie batting, looked a technically compact batsman against India in the Aussie home series.

Wales. Probably seems a bit random to suddenly be really into cricket but the World Cup final and the way England won it with the 'super-over' really caught my interest. Decided to watch the Ashes properly this time (previous years just kept an eye on it with mild interest) And found it even more captivating than the one day format. That 3rd test especially, with Stokes winning it in that fashion... Steve Smith & Cummins have also been a pleasure to watch.

I'll warn you this isn't a normal occurrence in cricket. This summer's been unusually great for cricket. Or else you're just in for rain or hugely one-sided boring contests.

Next year's T20 world cup will be class though. One tournament in cricket that never lets you down.

Ha yeah I'm aware it's been a pretty unique summer. Will ready myself for some cricket thats more in line with the mean. See how I get on then

England touring in SA this winter as well right? Will watch that

"The first thing you've got to say is 'who else is going to come in?' That's one point.

Oh look, a final parting blow to County Cricket from that moron Bayliss.

I take it you're over the moon this is Bayliss's last match in charge ;)

Cheers, thanks for sharing.

Now let's never speak of that third test ever again.

Yep. Wonder what the batting order with be.

Hope Curran gets a chance in the top six but I'd be surprised.

Burns, Denly, Root, Stokes, Bairstow, Buttler, Curran, Woakes, Archer, Leach, Broad

They've made the change because Stokes isn't fit enough to bowl so he'll go up one and play as a specialist bat.

Would be hilarious if Curran batted at 6 ahead of Buttler, just to see/hear Mark Butcher's reaction to it.

That batting lineup looks seriously mediocre doesn't it.

The honours system is a load of bollocks anyway.

Scrap it all.
