English cricket thread

You could really have used a fifth bowler in that second innings. Pace bowlers were knackered by the end. Starc must surely play at OT.
I’m not sure. As some have mentioned here, Starc actually isn’t very effective versus the top order. He does remove the tail efficiently but I’m not sure that’s enough from one of your strike bowlers. Certainly Cummins and Hazlewood are undroppable. It’s between Pattinson and Starc for the final spot - Siddle is washed up and shouldn’t be near the team.

So if Denly and Roy fail in this next match do we then drop Roy, bring in Sibley and move Denly back to four? This could get very silly (well, sillier).

Week's a long time for forecasts. Good luck to those with tickets!

I would have been ok with this earlier but not now. Denly's played well in his last innings and England have searched for somebody in that 3/4 position for 5 years since Trott now. I think filling that position is more important than trying to figure out how best to play Roy. I don't think Roy's going to be a success even if you bat him all the way down at 7.

Roy will work at four if we start well. If we lose quick wickets then it doesn’t make a difference.

Why don’t Cummins or Hazlewood play in the ODI team? Especially Cummins given he can bat abit too?

Overton in for Woakes.

Something going on with Woakes, Root seemed very reluctant to bowl him as the series went on. Like he didn't trust him.

Surprised we've not gone with Curran though, his batting especially could have been very useful in these low scoring matches.

Yeah, figured Curran would be likely to be brought in.

Dobell's suggesting the reasons for Overton's selection are 'too long for a tweet'. Sounds juicy.

I think it's an odd one. I don't rate Curran much, but he's a left armer who swings it in a series that has lacked swing. He also would be one left right armer creating rough for Lyon to exploit to the left handed batsmen and would create rough for Leach to the right handers, but perhaps they're worried about making too much with the amount of right handers in this squad and Starc coming in for the Aussies.

Starting to feel a bit sorry for Warner, seriously. He gets booed every time he walks out and then has to walk back five minutes later.

Reckon he's paid off his Karma balance now.

He is mentally shot atm, Great world cup but has just gone to crap instead of carrying on the good form.

What's up with Archer? Bowling very much within himself here.

I think he thinks he's at his best with the new ball when he bowls a bit slower. He did it at Headingley as well.

Not sure there's enough happening here to justify it though.

Good review that. Very close to being out and we get it back again.

That huge in-swinger from Stokes is a real weapon isn't it. Always seems to come out of nowhere.

Ah feck that's close... Smith out for 21 would have been amazing.
Can see them having a proper go at him with the short ball after lunch. As the commentators have said, we haven't been as aggressive as we could be this morning.

Also doesn't look the pitch is that quick either.

If Archer gets back to his best after lunch we could be in business. He's looked to be struggling with the lack of pace in the pitch and maybe he doesn't like the wind.
