England win the moral Ashes, think the fair result would have been 3-2 England. Should have been 4-1 really.

Australia do have the better players who had some really clutch moments.
Agree. England win the Spirit of the Game Ashes, the weather Ashes, and the moral Ashes. It’s a shame they didn’t win the actual Ashes. Are you an Arsenal fan by any chance?

That was pefect.

Great series, great cricket played, and a fitting end to a great career.

Fair play to Australia...they pinched that Urn. Some good fortune there, but they did also lose their spinner who is a key cog, so overall it's okay. Slightly disapointing we didn't get over the line.

One more time if this insanely lucky team hadn’t had rain save them in Manchester the Ashes was England’s

Bizarre series. Both sides looked fantastic and dreadful at different points in times. I was sure Australia were gonna win this 5-0, it’s ended feeling like if you played 5 more England would win all 5

Zak Crawley should be player of the series.. this series went like one of his innings. Never know what you’re going to get, but enthralling to watch and shit often

Class. What a series. Broad deserved that.

Whos man of the series? Broad? Woakes? changed the series

Congrats to Broad on a fantastic career.

Congrats to Australia men and women for retaining the Ashes away from home. They're simply the kings and queens of cricket.

I think Wood changed the series personally

Broad will get man of the series
Do you? Woakes must be close to most wickets taken and only bowled in 5 innings?

I suppose woods impact was more than just the wickets he took

Lads. The Aussies retained the Ashes. England failed to win a home test series. Lot of “can a draw be a win” energy in this thread.

I think we are celebrating because England came from 2-0 to level the series and were a rain day away from winning the whole thing. No one is denying Australia have won the Ashes.

I'll deny they've won the Ashes.

Retained it, meh

Chris Woakes by the way. Fella averages 27 with the bat and 29 with the ball. What a player he is in home conditions.

Our attack is fecking ancient though. Broad retiring, Alli retiring, Anderson soon to draw his pension, Woakes 34 years of age. Might have to be some retooling over the coming years.

This series deserves better fishing than that

It was a fantastic spectacle. If all test series were like that test cricket would never die

Convo for another day but it doesnt matter how good Ashes test are.

Test cricket is dying everywhere else, structural issues.

Very happy with that.
Regardless of Aussies retaining the ashes.
Should have been 3-2 but for the weather and with a few bazball tweaks could have been 4-1.
Does feel like the end of an era though, there are lot of players nearing retirement.
BBC had a really good “who is coming next” bit during the rain delay. I fear a little for future fast bowlers, wood is injury prone and not getting any younger and there doesn’t seem anyone exceptional coming through although tongue seems fairly promising

Not just fast bowling. Spin cupboard looks totally bare. If it wasn't we wouldn't be plucking a fella out of retirement!

On merit no way Broad.

Khawaja, Starc or Woakes.

Khawaja scored one ton in a 5 match series - you shouldn't be getting man of the series for that.

Not slagging him,all the batsmen struggled for big runs and he was better than most.

Before the series I genuinely felt that the Aussies were by far the better team but they have underperformed here. England played really really well

He’s highest run scorer so if any batsman gets it, it will be him

Absolutely class series, some of the best test cricket I've seen. Obviously didn't win the Manchester test, which we would have, but then we've been saved by the weather so many times. Happens, cricket innit.

I have done absolutely feck all work whenever it's been midweek.

Calm down. An Irish man revolutionised your white ball teams mate.

Joe root man of the series, forgot about his wickets actually. He didn't even enter my mind

Woakes man of the series for me. Only played the last three tests but lifted everything anddid the Anderson role with the ball plus contributions with the bat.

Some Irish men follow cricket. One of them even captained the English one day team :)

It’s been a great series. But not a great result for England. I’m mainly on a WUM here but it is funny to see so many of you trying to talk up what will go down in history as a missed opportunity.
