English cricket thread

Gill actually did well in his debut series in test against Australians in Australia but he just hasn't gotten it all together but I think it's matter of time with his talent and how unfortunate is it that it's been so long that India and Pakistan haven't had a test match whole generation of Cricketers denied that opportunity as well general population the spectacle .

Would definitely keep watch on Shafique , from Pakistan I like Babar definitely a future great with plenty of cricket left as well and Shaheen Shah Afridi is some bowler as well , I hope India and Pakistan can resolve their differences and we can get back on field .

One of the greatest test innings I had seen was by Tendulkar in losing cause Against Pakistan in test in Chennai , then there was Sehwag one in Pakistan and how our most recent greats haven't played a single test against Pakistan is so unfortunate . You also must have some memories of India and Pakistan encounters which you remember fondly .
Yea, it's a massive shame they don't play. There was a period in the mid-00s where they were regularly playing test cricket, (and the touring party was ending with the win). I mean, I'd have the rivalry as big, if not bigger, than the Ashes. There should be an Ashes-equivalent for India-Pakistan every couple of years. I think their games gets over a billion people watching worldwide!

Oh definitely Scope of India vs Pakistan as regular Test Series is immense easily comparable to Ashes or even better .

The lack of atmosphere here is cementing my view that the Oval should be rotated more than it is. It feels like a self inflicted wound to not have a northern test in 2027 with all of Lords, the Oval and Rose Bowl on the rota (but specifically I think we should have one at Headingley as I’m still annoyed about the Old Trafford rain).

Been out all day.

I'd have taken anything 300+ at the start of the day so think we are only a few short. Need to nip a few out now.

Its a total joke. London never has any atmosphere. Sometimes I wonder if they even like cricket or just attend for status.

Really useful knocks from Wood and Woakes.

You wonder how the series would have transpired if they were selected from the first test match.

Cardiff should have one every time. The England and Wales Cricket Board need to be quit of the elitism.

283 too many with the aussies just waiting for rain again.

I’m a Londoner and I love cricket, but for whatever reason the atmosphere just isn’t there and it surely hinders the team. Headingley is my favourite.

The Oval is contracted to have a test every year, I think it's something to do with the lease.

Jimmy Anderson definitely surviving in this team based on past glories. He has not been great this series and should not have been selected for the last couple of tests, and think sentiment has won over sense.

Picking him for this one was weird. Could understand the other two.

Anderson's form in tests leading up to this series was excellent.

Also, in the last three years he's been consistently performing.

I think he's bowled very defensively in this series, generally too short and wide, but in this test, he's been more erratic and maybe searching for and not finding a fuller length.

To an extent, you have to give credit to Australia for how they've played him, but I don't think you can expect England to easily drop a player who has been playing very well for a long period of time and who has hundreds of test wickets. Once you drop Anderson, at this stage, that's the end of his test career.

4 wickets in three test matches coming into this test is not good form at all. He has one wicket of top order batsmen in this series so far in 121 overs. That's your new ball bowler.

I could understand even if I didn't necceserialy agree with it playing him in the first 2 tests. But after that makes no sense and even more so for this test.

Josh tongue only played at lord's got 5 wickets in the test, he got Smith twice, Warner twice and khawaja once. And bowled very very well.

On the basis of all logic Anderson should be nowhere near the side in this test match. Whether that would mean the end of a very long and incredibly career? It dosent matter it's all about winning the test In front of you, I think we would have a Better chance at getting 20 wickets with Tounge in the side than Anderson on current form.

Australia edge that day then. Similar to how England did in the last test.

My guess is they end up with a minimal lead and we could be in for a classic close one.

I understand the loyalty but at the same time you need to realise its over, I understand Jimmy's desire to stay on probably wants to get to 700 wickets but it looks doubtful that's gonna happen he hasn't looked threatening at all really

Ridiculous. You would think these guys would be fired up to prove the 4th test was no fluke. Root, Bairstow, Stokes all down without so much as a fight.
I don’t think they’re playing that badly, it’s just the the Aussie bowling attack decided to show up.

I’m contemplating whether Australia’s tactic at Old Trafford was to let England bat themselves out of a result.

Off Course it was , who doesn't like to be carted all over Ground treated with utter contempt and made to look like a pub team by their fiercest rivals .

That's being very generous to Australia, Starc gets wickets but can be expensive at times and Cummins just looked exhausted.

Of course England would like to win this test, but the motivation of playing not to lose a series is completely different to playing to win one so it's not surprising to see a drop off in their performance as well as a boost for Aus without the pressure they faced in the last two. The pressure on Cummins would have also been immense going into this test at 2-2 and it's a shame we didn't get to see how he would have handled it.

This Test now has the feel of a World Cup third/fourth place playoff which is a shame. I guess the crowd at the Oval doesn't help in that respect.

Yeah, defo a bit excuse tinged from us but I'm struggling to get up for it.

Moeen unable to field again today. Unusual amount of injuries incurred during the test matches this summer.

Stokes was bowling off-spin in the warmup. It'd be fun to see a few overs from him with Moeen not bowling.

Just a reminder that you lost so your sense of arrogance is unfounded other than one decent innings. I mean if you want to go there, you’ve won 3 ashes matches out of the last 17 odd but anyway.

I have no idea why you pop up in here occasionally looking for boring tribal nonsense. I'm just here to comment on the cricket.

Yeah, no excuses for England losing. They were extremely sloppy in those first two tests and the team selections were poor. Just feels like Australia were there for the taking as Khawaja, Cummins and Starc aside they've been well below their best.

This session this morning isn't doing much to get the juices flowing either. Seems like Australia would be happy enough to bring the draw into play at this point.

This cricket from Australia is beyond tumescent.

Boycott will be tumescent, probably sat tugging himself silly over this

It's the day 2, 1st session!

They wouldn't start playing for a draw so early.

Yeah it's just how these two bat.

Head and co wont be batting for a draw if they come in at 200-3 at tea with England missing a spinner
