So what are we expecting?

Think as long as we match the Aussie score or get near it I'll be happy
If we can avoid early wickets then it’s definitely achievable, but I think we’ll need Ali/Woakes to have good days with the bat.

Situation depending, I would be tempted to put Woakes in first. Moeen is going to swing the bat either way.

Do you think that will be enough? I always think you need, at a minimum, a small lead if you're going to bat 4th in a test match. I think a 30-50 run lead is needed for Eng to win the test.

50+ lead and we will win the test match.

As usual, the Root wicket feels huge. If he can anchor the innings with the long middle order and tail around him we can make 300+.

Two quick wickets this morning and we are fecked.

Saw a discussion earlier in this thread that most English players went to private schools.

Is it because public schools don't have the facilities to support a relatively more expensive game? And does that mean England pick from a relatively smaller pool of players than they potentially could if the game was more widely played?

We weren’t allowed bats at school they were worried we’d batter each other with them

Shocking stuff from Bairstow. Is he really materially better than Foakes?

He may as well have been playing this series in an Aussie cap at this rate. If it's a question of fitness, why on earth is he playing when you've got such a capable alternative??

This series has been emotionally draining. I obviously will continue to be obsessed with it, but logically it is totally pointless getting excited by our “up” periods now, knowing it will inevitably be brief.

Typical that the penny will most likely drop once they have an unassailable lead

Yep just can't sustain it whatsoever

Chaps, what are your thoughts on Stokes cheating in the field yesterday?

What he did was clearly not in the spirit of the game at all. I'm surprised he forgot about what the spirit of the game means after every man and their man-servants in England were yammering on about it.

What did he do?

What did he do?

He dived to save a four and might just have bene touching the boundary a mili-second before throwing the ball out of his hand.

There's zero way he could have known whether or not he saved the four.

Doesn’t count as he’s English.

Someone who either knows nothing about cricket or is a troll.

Is it a boundary if the player has the ball in one hand, but is touching the rope with a body part at the same time? The answer is yes.

Was Bairstow out for leaving the crease prior to the ball being "dead" and the umpire calling over? The answer is yes.

But of course you must know the real actual rules of Cricket though.
