Sure, why try to win when you can simply play not to lose.

But yet you could still try to win and make it more difficult for the opposition to win. Nothing breeds confidence like winning matches not batting for 4 days and then losing. If there was a half decent spin attack then sure go ahead yet the majority of the attack are part time spinners. Adding on another 50 runs at the pace they were batting would have still left overs to bowl at them during the afternoon session.

But they wouldn’t have maintained that pace because it would have been Livingstone who couldn’t stand up straight and Ollie Robinson. Plus you’ve then got the question of whether the umpires would bother starting again knowing they’d go off in about 15 minutes.

You know what builds up confidence by a ridiculous amount? Rolling the dice and winning. That’s what they’re going for. Give me a loss going for it over batting out today and tomorrow being irrelevant every single time. England currently favourites with the bookies too, as it happens.

You still have Ollie Robinson to come next who hit a quick fire 37 in the first innings. I didn't say to bat out the day, I said to add 50 more runs and yet still have overs to have a go at them at the end of the day. We have a weak bowling attack to say the least. If you had 2 front line spinners I would say go for it but we don't. I hope they do win but for me they could have stacked the odds further in their favour. Maybe I'm too conservative however let's hope they pull it off tomorrow.

Assuming there are 80 overs on last day then the target would be 343 in 100 overs. If England batted say 5 more overs(+2 for innings change ) and made 30-40 more you would be looking at 380-390 in 93 overs. I think it would have pushed Pakistan out of it. This kept Pakistan in the game and frankly on this pitch you need batters to try & hit if you want to get wickets

I don’t think Ollie Robinson and an injured Livingstone would have added 40 runs in 5 overs. Robinsons knock in the first innings was slow by England’s standards as well. If Brook hadn’t gotten out they would have carried on. But they probably thought the additional 5 overs might not have been worth the additional 25 runs it might have bought tops.

I think some of you are overrating Pakistan’s ability to bat out a day.

Last Rawalpindi test, they batted out the day without losing a wicket against a better attack in Australia. I do think a lot depends if Azhar Ali is fit or not but there literally is nothing still on the pitch to help the bowlers.

England absolutely deserve to win this test ….not sure they will though.

Last 10 ov (RR): 3/1 (0.30)

These cowards don’t deserve anything from this match.

That DRS overturn might be the test match.

We should have set 380+ (I did say it at the time )

Wow how on earth has ball tracking got that as going over the wicket!

That pitch is as low as you can get!

The ball actually started coming down before it hit his chest. No way that was going over!

Can't see Pakistan losing this now. As expected England are a few runs light.
It's too tight to call still.

Those last few overs before tea there were two reviews, and a dropped catch off an inside edge. It can swing back to England in a moment.

It's pretty much all on the next wicket given the state of Pakistans tail. Will be interesting if England get the next wicket soon whether Pakistan would go for the win or try to bat out a draw.

Yeah maybe but those wickets would have to come at the beginning of the session otherwise this partnership will get more confident the nearer they get to the total. It doesn't help the spinners have been ineffective and we are essentially relying on 3 seamers. Need Wood for the next match with some pace.

At max 70-80 mins of play left due to light. Think this ends in a draw.

Amazing how cricket can turn in just one wicket!

Considering the pitch, this has been a brilliant test, full credit to England for going all out to win this.

Pakistan holding on desperately for the draw. Turns out Ben Stokes knew what he was doing with the declaration.

Who knew.

I'll maintain my line it was a shade on the reckless side but if it pays off they deserve all rhe praise that will come their way.
