English cricket thread

Changing a misshapen ball is a pet peeve of mine. England always try it when nothing’s happening and I think if a team has done well enough to get the ball out of shape, they should be able to enjoy full value of it.

That reminds me, I'm getting increasingly superstitious about this thread. We've been shocking in tests since it began. I've tried before to get @Samid to make a new one but he cruelly updates the title every year.

I think the real curse is whether I watch the match or not. I've watched about 3 hours of England batting in both innings and they haven't lost a single wicket in that period.

with the state of the game it’s probably easier for new zealand just to concede the test and save everyone the bother of having to come back tomorrow.

Still fancy New Zealand but we've given ourselves a good chance. Hoping the improved forecast for tomorrow is right as last thing we need is these bowlers getting a rest while it rains.

Would be ace if Root could for once not get out without adding too much to his overnight score.

That was a good day of Test cricket. England really should win it from here, but if Kiwis get Root early then it’s game on.

Stokes and Root have got many runs so far against New Zealand??

Sorry, but both deserve criticism for the amount of runs they have got, they are not free from being criticised.
Idiotic post has to be pointed fecking out with Root and Stokes giving us a chance to win the game.

I can see it going to the wire, 15 overs till the new ball but England are bound to lose a wicket or two (or maybe even all 5) before that, can see the bowlers being left a few runs to get with potentially a new ball hooping around. Gonna be interesting, either way low scoring tests are so much more interesting a pitch where you have to work for your runs against the ball is always a better spectacle in test cricket.

The thread has been quite funny to read back as I’ve not been able to watch any of it today.

England should be winning from here but not a single England fan (or just a cricket fan in general) will be surprised if there’s a quick flurry of wickets.

It says a lot about how bad this England side are that they really only have one batsman left and he generally gets out first thing in the morning.

Have been really impressed with Jamieson. He's quick enough, but his high release point and control cause all sorts of problems. Obvious comparisons with Morkel, but it's great that New Zealand have a different kind of threat there.

Realistically, Rooty and Ben Foakes have to bring this home. An unknown quantity in Potts who has never faced this kind of quality, a Stuart Broad who doesn't really trust himself any more, and then two genuine tailenders in Jimmy and Matt Parkinson.

After watching a decade of English lower order and tail enders bashing India, this is a really strange 7-11

Who’s on weather watch in London then? Haven’t heard anything yet about this morning.

Is that 10am or 10pm :nervous: Looks like it’s going to be very tough, especially if there’s 30 runs or so left to get with the new ball.

Definitely going to check the odds on a quick NZ victory.

Surely NZ need to attack more than this and stop singles. I get that the ball isn’t doing much but protecting the boundary isn’t enough.

England have been proactive & confident so far. The new ball being due soon shouldn’t be a factor anymore.

ICC need to clamp down on this. It’s been 18 overs with a changed ball and they’re trying to get it changed again. They can’t keep asking for different ball just because it’s not swinging as much as they hoped.

Stokes hasn't taken too many wickets with the ball, nor scored too many runs recently, when was his last good game??

Root failed to get a 100 in Australia, and hasn't done much since.

Has he past his peak, that is the big question now.
As flawed as this post has been proved to be, even IF he was past his peak (he's 31 and has so he probably is), so what? Players have their peak and can still play for years past it.
