English cricket 2015 - NZ, The Ashes, Pak and SA

He doesn't look fit to me. Wouldn't be surprised to see him retire at the end of this tour. He has nothing more to prove.
Same.

It's a shame. One of the most talented players I've seen. But for his back, he could've been the best batsmen of his generation and a seriously useful bowler.

What a topsy turvy series, one side gets slaughtered, the other side gets slaughtered, the other side gets slaughtered. Looks like we will win the series in the final game, 3-2.
Nah, we don't win the next one, we're in trouble. Oval is made for their bowlers.

What's Johnson's history with England fans? How is his bowling shite? I don't get it. He's a fantastic bowler.

I just hope the tv media here don't pull the wool over people's eyes. Better side won. No excuses i hope. Selectors have a lot to think about with the batting in particular, Voges is under threat i feel. England favourites now, but as we've seen a lot can happen. As England, won no interviews nor analysis from channel 9. They couldn't wait to send Tubby Taylor down to interview Johnson after they won at Lords.

I get mocking him when he was shit, but that bowling in Aus was as good as I've ever seen. He's bowled well in this series too. I'd have him over any of our bowlers, Anderson included.

It's clearly done to knock his confidence and to some extent the crowd has got on Johnson's back at times.

Voges should be replaced if you have a decent alternative (can Shaun Marsh bat in the middle order?). Your lot need to take confidence in the fact Anderson isn't going to be an issue in the next one. If Broad, Finn, and whoever else is available, are too much, then you have issues well beyond this series.

He has a very questionable mental state, his talent is very clear, but what's also clear is that you can get into his head. As we saw just then with his last over.

I think he past problems were to do with his technique rather than his mental state. He seems to have sorted it out now.

Anderson giving an interview of a man who knows he's not going to play anymore in the series.

The 2009 ashes, The barmy army were chanting he Bowles to the left, he Bowles to the right, that Mitchell Johnson his bowling is Shiite.

They need a new song, because his bowling certainly isn't shite anymore.

I've just watched the highlights again and the Aussie batmans batting is pathetic in traditional English conditions. If it swings at Trent Bridge, England will win easily again.

You're underestimating the importance of Anderson.

Anderson is an all time great in these conditions, if not the greatest. England won't win a test match without him in this series.

When was the last time an Ashes went into a final test decider with the scores at 2-2?

England squad for the fourth Ashes Test:

Alastair Cook (Essex) (Capt), Moeen Ali (Worcestershire), Jonny Bairstow (Yorkshire), Ian Bell (Warwickshire), Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire), Jos Buttler (Lancashire), Steven Finn (Middlesex), Mark Footitt (Derbyshire), Adam Lyth (Yorkshire), Liam Plunkett (Yorkshire), Adil Rashid (Yorkshire), Joe Root (Yorkshire), Ben Stokes (Durham), Mark Wood (Durham).

Plunkett and Footitt both added, due to Wood's ankle issue, though he may make it.

What's Footitt like as a bowler?
All I know is he's a left armer and meant to be quick.

This is probably as knowledgeable as any of us are likely to be...

As a regular watcher of Derbyshire (in fact I've got the afternoon off today to go and watch the 50 over match vs. Northants!) I can thoroughly recommend Footitt.
His radar can be questionable at times, but in a 5 day match that barely matters. He will be pounding the ball down at 90, a bit like Mitchell Johnson. It would be interesting to see how they cope with him as he's different to the other options (left handed for a start). If he played for any other county he would have played Test cricket already.

EDIT - Found this...

88 overs bowled in the second test and in total 6 of the 10 days were washed out. Harsh on SA losing 5-6 ranking points but I guess you're always running the risk touring the sub-continent during the rainy months.

Edit: This was supposed to be posted in the cricket thread.

Probably. I think I'd prefer they took the chance on Footitt, though. Just cause Plunkett doesn't seem to be in particularly good form.

Here's the 11 I'd pick, in batting order:

David Warner
Chris Rogers
Steve Smith
Michael Clarke
Shaun Marsh
Mitch Marsh
Peter Nevil
Mitch Johnson
Mitch Starc
Josh Hazelwood
Nathan Lyon.

Talk is they'll stick with Voges, but I'd replace him with Shaun Marsh.

Five days to seal the deal.

Shaun Marsh has replaced Mitch Marsh in Australia's team. No recognized all rounder in this must not lose test. Voges keeps his spot.

Does look a bit like messing with the balance for the sake of trying to accommodate an out of form captain.
