England V India

I thought Sreesanth did quite well in the first test.

He's one of those really fast medium pacers isn't he?

Yes, he did well.

Other news is one of India's pacers isn't playing (Sreesanth), and a debutant is stepping up. As the Indian pace attack has looked ordinary, at best, post-World Cup, I don't think this debutant will be up for it.

Also, the Mohali pitch (if I remember correctly), has always been a batting wicket.. but neither team would want to bat on Day 5. Guess it's an important toss to win, for both teams.

Should be a good close game.. and hopefully, not another draw.

Mohali wicket is a bouncy track assisting the pace bowlers and medium pace and slowly deteriorating towards the end. Pace bowlers can expect a lot of assistance if they are willing to bend their backs. It stands some where between Adelaide Oval and Gabba.

At best I predict a 1-1 draw.

I would say- its advantage England from now on.

He did. Haul of 4 wickets, I think.

As an aside, and out of curiosity, is pavilion in this forum (i.e. The Cricket Pavillion ) spelt incorrectly for a reason :S

Yes, GB's English is no so good.

India have dropped Kaif and VVS Laxman, playing 5 bowlers. Yuvraj is back. A choice between young spinner Chawla or Munaf Patel will be made dependant on state of pitch.

Idiots...hate the current selection committee..the chairmans a fecking idiot from Mumbai who is the biggest prick anyone can ever come across.

Kaif is very unlucky.Laxman deserved to go..but Kaif? That means Sehwag has to finally realise he's one of only 5 batsmen in the team and play responsibly(don't think he's heard the word).

Its going to be tough.

To be fair, Kaif had a lousy tour of Pakistan, so dropping him is almost justifiable. Specially, as the batting's been in better shape than the bowling in the recent past.. and with SreeSanth out as well... Think it isn't too much to expect the batsmen to be more responsible.

As for Sehwag playing responsibly - it's happened once before (World Cup finals.. when he got run out) - Responsible by Sehwag's standards.

Should be some good cricket coming this way!!

That's unfair, they were one day games - you can't expect a player to suddenly come in and start performing from the off, especially having not featured in the test matches. Saying that I am not a great fan of his style.

Yuvraj had to play for his oustanding performances in Pakistan.

It's a good decission. With Pathan and Dhoni in the team we should play 5 bowlers every match

Well, it is unfair... But I understand where the management's coming from, which is all I'm trying to say...

It wasn't ever going to be easy on him, considering his place in the test team was taken by Ganguly.

As for his style.. I still recall the innings he played with Yuvraj in the Natwest finals - mind-blowing! He's had some great knocks, and I think I read somewhere that he was captain of the U-19/21 (?) cricket team which won the World Cup. He's a good player - just needs to have a couple of good knocks under his belt...

Yuvraj is better.
He was the captain of the U19 team that won the WC, yuvraj was also part of the team and was player of the series.
I don think Kaif would be a regular Indian middle order bastman, he won't be consistant enough to hold onto his poistion.

His average's about 34. For someone who comes in at No. 6 (I think), it isn't bad. I think, with a little bit of confidence, he'll be a fairly good player.

Plus, by far the best fielder the Indian cricket team has. Equivalent to Rhodes - I honestly think he was in the team for his fielding (oh... and his career average was 35-odd), and he used to come in at No. 6 or thereabouts as well.

Not sure, Cricinfo isn't working for me at the moment.

I think teams are usually announced a half hour before the start of play.

The Indians should be grateful that the English civilised them. Not least because we gave them cricket.

By the sounds of things it should be a full house for this test, hopefully will be a better atmosphere than the first test.

I'm looking forward to this one.

Toss in 10 minuites (I have suddenly become incapable of spelling minuites for some reason so i'm not sure if i've spelt it correctly)

Play due to start at 5:15.

Thank you.

Pitch looks good. A bit of grass on one end which will help the seamers and more of a spinners track on the other, but the batsmen should be able to score on it.

Blackwell out, Plunkett in, as expected.

Laxman, Kaif and Sreesanth out, Patel, Chawla (young leg spinner, looks very promising) and Yuvraj come in.

India going with 3 spinners, 2 quicks.

England with 1 spinner and 4 quicks.

Looks like there may be a result in this one.

This Chawla kid has me a tad worried to be honest, 17 year old leg spinner who looked very good in the u19s WC, I have a feeling he could have a big match.

Interesting India's going in with three specialist spinners though - considering, the utility bowlers (i.e. Sehwag, Yuvraj and Sachin) are all spin bowlers

Strauss edges, just falls short of slip, dodgy start, quite a bit of swing for Pathan.

Outfield doesn't look as quick as it was in the first test, Strauss recovered well from the initial edge.

Outfield's bound to be slow because of the rain anyway
