England going along quite well, no reverse yet, a bit of conventional swing for Pathan, it does look like there is something in it for the spinners though, Harbajan has started dangerously.

Strauss nicks it to the keeper chasing a wide ball, Dhoni catches well low to his left.

Damn, you're faster than cricinfo/cricbuzz

It was a poor shot from Strauss, he really needs to pull the finger out.

I'm starting to get tired...

Mainly the lack of sleep.

Cook out LBW to Pathan, good delivery.

This is where it starts getting interesting..

Sleep now?

Sounds like me..

Saw the description on cricinfo - seems like a straightforward lbw

Yeah, he has been swinging the ball away from the left hander all day, this one was a full in swinger and caught Cook plum.

Bell lucky there, edges a wide ball over gully.

Irresponsible batting by England today, they have gone chasing balls they didn't need to go after.

I'll give it until half six, then i'm off.

Bell has looked nervy so far.

Last over for me and then I need to go to sleep.

Chawla coming in, this will be interesting.

Ahh... is he any good? Don't think I've ever seen him play.

Played very well in the u19s world cup, only 17 but has a big reputation, making his debut today.

He starts with a maiden, and that's lunch as it happens.

Goodnight/morning all, see you tomorrow/later today.

First over a maiden?

That's a fairly decent start to your international career..

Two early wickets. Good stuff. Pathan rarely fails to get us that early breakthrough.

Now for the spinners. Chawla is supposed to be really very good at turning the ball. He bowled Sachin round his legs in the challenger. Lacks a bit on the variations though. Will come with time.

It's ok. But they have this message blocking quarter of the screen. But in Yankland this is the closest you can get to watching cricket.

Chawla sounds pretty impressive.

Pathan... he's lost a fair bit of pace lately... as have the other Indian bowlers (Zaheer being the other example)

Fair enough. Should download Winamp then, and give it a shot.

True.

It seems Munaf is bowling within himself too - Piyush seems interesting.

His average's about 34. For someone who comes in at No. 6 (I think), it isn't bad. I think, with a little bit of confidence, he'll be a fairly good player.

Plus, by far the best fielder the Indian cricket team has. Equivalent to Rhodes - I honestly think he was in the team for his fielding (oh... and his career average was 35-odd), and he used to come in at No. 6 or thereabouts as well.
Rhodes was never a good test player.

Anyway 118/3, we need to get England out before 300.
England took the bad light, who would have thought eh?

Looks like thats it for the day. 163/4 in 50. Lost more than a session. But on the bright side, Pietersen is gone. Flintoff and Collingwood are on. First session tomorrow will decide the match in my opinion.

"a draw" or "drawn"

a draw.

Also, this track has a record of not producing results. One more thing, it resembled a Pakistani wicket, colourwise - it was almost white in colour. Indian wickets look more on the orange side, don't they. I guess, it's the type of mud they have over there. . . apparently, this Indian bloke on TV reckons the traditional Indian soil is better for spinning.

Still pretty confident we can post a respectable total. Going to have to rely on the tail wagging again. Bit disappointed though, at least 2 of those wickets were down to poor concentration. Strauss should have known better than to swipe so loosely at a wide ball.

I think a score of 350 would be good on this wicket, and if no more time is lost I have a feeling we may see a result in this match.

Good knock by Pieterson, although a bit of a soft dismissal.

If this pitch doesnt start spinning or doing atleast something for the bowlers then it really will be a shame. As it is there isnt any carry for the pace bowlers, which on thef first day should always be there, regardless on it being a turning track or whatever. Dont want this to become like what we saw in Pakistan.

On the days play, cant say much, if both teams bat well from here on it will be a draw. Too much time has and will be lost. I thought apart from that mini blitz from Peterson we bowled very well. Munaf for some reason bowled within himself in the first spell. From what iv heard from commentators, he used to be really quick but had no control.. and only when he began concentrating on line and length and cut down on pace, did he started producing results. I liked his last spell, the one where he got Peterson out. IMO he needs the pace.. we have enough swing bowlers, we need someone with raw pace and since he has that he should concentrate on that.

Thought Pathan bowled some good stuff on a generally unresponsive pitch. He gets critisized for everything these days. But a couple of things il mention, he has obviously lost pace, not much just a couple of miles which is important. And although hes not at his best right now, whats good to see is hes learning. Hes begun to bowl well with the old ball which is a surprise, and for the first time hes getting wickets consistantly on dead tracks. Also hes thinking batsman out more these days. The dismissal of Cook was a great example of that. Should have had Peterson as well.. a proper appeal would have helped although Darrel Hair is a rubbish umpire.. if they ran he probably would have given byes.

And he's still going on about this fast young bowler they've got, that can't bowl faster than 83 mph.
