England v India 2021 Cricket Test Series

England just don’t have the team in test cricket to compete against good teams at the moment. They have tried a lot of players from the county level but people just haven’t been able to take the step up. What happened today is a culmination of years of being bad , if you are 10/2 every innings then sooner rather than later you will get out like this

Honestly, I think England's batting is not as bad as its made out to be. They have come up against two of the best bowling attacks (Ind, NZ) recently and saying that the batting is bad is unfair to the bowling lineups. Like most of the dismissals were unavoidable today, not some rash batting and Indian batsmen struggled as well throughout the series

It feels weird watching because in test cricket in recent years it seems like an equal competition between bat and ball compared to white ball.

If the target was around 200 ish, it would have been a different game. England lost the game, primarily because of the decisions in the first session.

Nah we've been shite for years. We are constantly at 30/3, its been like this for about 10 years.

It's basically been Root or Stokes need to get a big score and then Jimmy and Broad bowl us to victory. That's the only way we win.

Anyways Siraj is ridiculous, love his aggression.

england just literally lost their t20 and ODI series in India, you're not like Australia of old who won two or three WC and actually dominated it.

You're the best team right now though in limited over cricket .

The poster was making the point we have a number of white ball players ready to step up demonstrated by our second string beating Pakistan in the recent t20 series. But we don’t have any good red ball players ready to step up. If you knew the English county scene you would understand.

Definitely an issue with the openers. Without anyone who can help Root and get themselves in it's really a thankless task.

It seems like a couple of the Indian fans are here just to pick fights even when the English fans are not even competing

He literally said that England is dominating the shorter format of the games. I'm disagreeing, not sure what the point of contention is. I think they're the best LOI team but aren't really dominating it like let's say Aussies used to do.

Must have missed Anderson telling players to come off for bad light when he’s not on the pitch and screaming and shouting on the field.
Now you have problem with captain asking his team to come off because of light? By the way day was called off because England decided to take new ball and light was not enough for fast bowling. If they had used Ali and Root match would have progressed.

Also shouting is so okay when your team does it isn't it? Classic case of can give but can't take. It's funny how many Virat gets triggered. He isn't doing something that we haven't seen before. Get over it and watch match rather than being salty about it

Imagine being the country's best batsman, top scorer in the series, just off an unbeaten 180, and you still have to come out and take responsibility for the defeat because you made a wrong decision in one session out of fifteen.

Don't want to be Root right now.

Some English fans are honestly incredible, continuously make moronic posts and have arrogant opinions, and when challenged upon it, take the high road.

Probably the reason why the rest of the world takes such pleasure in their losses. Anyways good win!

:wenger: Is he on the pitch to dictate if they should come off for bad light? Not sure where it is allowed for a captain to dictate from the balcony to tell his players to come off? The spinners were bowling but he was telling his batsmen to moan that there was bad light. Embarrassing.

Can you clarify where the England players have behaved like Kohli. I think India have played great and well done to them for winning but doesn’t stop me saying Kohli has and continues to behave like a cnut which is a shame as he’s a great player. This goes beyond the usual level of banter or sledging as you may call it.

You don't like the English. We get it and I doubt anyone will lose any sleep over it. Your prejudice is as obvious as your baiting.

Well done and well done on the win!

There is no doubt at all that Kohli is a cnut. But he happens to be our cnut. It's like facing Bruno.

On another note, did I miss some drama with Ollie Robinson? The entire entire Indian team had a word or two for him.

Well better to have him on your team I guess. Great player though!

Something was kicking off. Think Robinson may have had some words when bowling so India were giving some back.

The game was competitive for four and a half days, so I’m not sure how you’ve come to that conclusion. Easy to say it was because of Root, but Rahul almost scored the same percentage of India’s runs in the first innings.

Yeah I don't follow the logic in that. England were leading from the first innings, and pretty much in the driving seat for the first part of the second. To say they can't compete is a bit daft.

I completely agree that England competed very well and in fact if you see one of my earlier posts I did say that I was surprised at how close the games have actually been . You have to remember though that England are at home and I feel that India have played below their level so far . I meant more in terms of competing for the series. I just don’t see this England team win a series of 4/5 games against India , Nz or Australia

Well, he definitely got under the skin of a few players. It's not everyday that the likes of Rahane and Rohit come after you from the slips. Dealt with it well, too.

The Indian openers are Indian top scorers while the English counterparts disappear by the time you switch on the game. That sets the tone early on. Our tail managed to (was allowed to?) wag on for much longer than expected, and after that it was too much pressure in the last two sessions. Excellent bowling by Bumrah and Siraj in particular.

Cracking game of test cricket, I definitely enjoy these more than T20s.

What are you talking about? They were bowling spin from both ends :wenger:

Not a fan of Kohli the captain to be honest, but I’m not going to complain. I fully understand that tensions will be high and certain England players will come across in the same manner. He would made himself look like a complete tit if that dropped catch cost them though, and I’d have laughed no doubt.

I’d agree that they are unlikely to win a series against those teams. Semantics on the word competitive more than anything then.

I absolutely love the animosity between the two teams , this is what top level sport should be like. Kohli is an absolute embarrassment but it’s fine we have a few of our own who chatter a lot

Very impressed with Siraj. Seems to have the knowledge of left handers. England lost all their marbles with Shami and Bumrah. As it said on BBC, they were bowling to the man not the wicket and it showed.
Our batting is woeful, no idea how to sort it out. On a plus note. Moeen bowled well and Robinson has been a great find but it’s batsmen we need!

Our top 3 is a total mess and then you have Root yet again using that tactic of bowling bouncers and short stuff at tailenders which never works, when will England learn to target the stumps against these lower order batsmen and actually blow a tail away just once. Another thing that really frustrated me yesterday is why was Curran taken off after lunch after he would have been buzzing from knocking over Kohli.

England will probably drop Sibley now and bring in Pope. Hopefully Woakes can come back and replace Curran. Not sure who they play in place of Wood who will probably not be fit.Rest will keep their place

Sick and tired when they resort to that. When has it ever worked? Just stick to line and length and they would have been out. I mean Bumrah average 8 and Shami average 11!

As well an opening, the number 3 positions continues to be a problem. Pope bats at 5 for Surrey. We don’t seem to have a good solid number 3. I would try Livingstone there and move Hameed to open with Burns. Mahmood could be a shout for Wood if Stone is still injured.

Why didn't Woakes play in this game was he injured

Never seen Bumrah so fired up. He's always laughing and smiling even when fielders drop catches off his bowling!!!

Disastrous captaincy by Root though. Got Pant out early in the morning and instead of taking wickets, England concentrated on getting revenge for Jimmy Anderson ffs!! So he got a few short balls while he was batting, so fecking what? Hasn't Anderson ever bowled a short ball to a tail ender? Poms completely lost the plot in the morning session.
