England v India 2021 Cricket Test Series

England aren’t chasing down 200+. They’re better off keeping India out there for as long as possible and run down the overs.

One of the most bizarre passage of captaincy I’ve seen.

Maybe, but it needn't have got to 200. Once they got Pant that felt like the moment, but then they let it get away again.

We miss the raw aggression of Stokes in these sort of positions.

Brilliant work by the tailenders. This has become a tricky match for england now as well. They now have to chase more than 3 runs per over if they are to win this match.

Nearly 3.5

Going off for the light felt like a big turning point, but I still fancied England to mop up after Pant’s wicket.

What’s the betting we get close to a result either way, but run out of overs.

Kohli probably thinking about declaring ...

Get to 260ish & it would make things interesting. Kane Williamson did something similar when NZ played England.

Still can’t believe that field placement when Bumrah came in, unbelievable stupidity.

You're not still going on about the light, are you?

Fact is, we should have mopped up the last 4 wickets without the lead getting out of reach.

We’ll see how India feel about it today if they end up finishing with England 8 wickets down. I’m not bothered who benefits, it’ll be really poor all round if this test ends in a draw because they don’t get all the overs in.

Last over.. they'll probably go for it if they are thinking of declaring

That's a good point. The light reading will apply from yesterday as to when England are offered light. It could well backfire on India.

Very good point! I'm only a couple of miles from the ground and it's pretty damn gloomy outside already. Be amazed if they play much beyond 6.

There are runs to be had.. England are good at scoring fast..

260 off 62 overs would be the target if India declare now..

Who knows.. might declare.. might try and take it down to 50-55 overs.

england won’t attempt to chase this

england won’t attempt to chase this
India would have... at least tried.. if we lost wickets, the plan would change.. but there is no way this Indian team would go out not trying to chase 260 off 60 overs.

Bizarre controversy about lights. It has been done hundreds of time in the past. Not sure what the fuss is about.

this isn’t the first test match where batters have taken the light.

that was schoolboy level captaincy there. not often you see elite level sportsmen lose the plot in the full glare of the watching world.
questions have to be asked about the coaching team too, couldve called a strategic timeout (send on 12th man with some water / pads for a short leg etc) and get some tactical reset going, instead we had a slow motion car crash. at least the analysts on the england payroll will have lots of funky numbers to play with.

Just came back from a meeting and now I see this. Just lovely. England have bottled this match big time.
Its over 4 now.
Shami and Bumrah have done brilliantly

Two for Shami, boys! is what Butler said last night when India were 4 down.. he didnt know what he was asking for

Well India are a better side than England in Test cricket so that does help

What are you basing that on . They literally scored 181 runs yesterday in the whole day when they could have set up a win

You're having a laugh. Day 5 pitch, 260 runs in final two sessions, bowling friendly conditions, potential bad light and no field restrictions? No sane team would even attempt to chase this down (unless it was a deciding test and they needed to win).

Seriously this and that too in English conditions where you probably need to bat out a few overs of the new ball to start with

I watched that live on TV and remember thinking that might come back to haunt him...

I think India have forsaken the chance of a win in order to put the shits up england instead. id have gone for the win.
