England | right wing knuckle draggers on the streets

That video also uses the word “invasion” because there is in context, a small group of Asian men. Begs the question what kind of right wing nonsense the poster is viewing/reading

Read the last 30 pages.

Who has time for that? Probably should have read more than the 1 or 2 pages I did though.

I mean context like always I suppose is key.

These riots started following some misinformation regarding the murdered young girls who the far-right claimed was murdered by an asylum seeker Muslim that had come over by boat, this was quickly refuted as it turns out the perpetrator was born here and very likely not a Muslim. It didn't stop the far-right from organising nation-wide 'protests' that turned into obscene displays of violence and destruction, attacking police officers, ethnic minorities, destroying property, looting, setting things ablaze (often with people trapped inside), all while shouting Islamophobic slurs and often proudly displaying Nazi gestures.

Its possible the clip you've posted shows a bunch of minorities who felt fed up and defenceless with these thugs attacking them, their homes and businesses and decided to take matters into their own hands. These chaps could easily be a bunch of malevolent thugs up to no good themselves, but you could see how easily the narrative could have been manipulated to portray them as a group of barbarians who decided to terrorise others without provocation which is precisely what your post does. Also consider the source posting it - it's some alt-right cretin from the US posting on the misinformation cesspit that is twitter. If you are as innocently out of the loop as you claim you are, then the post will have succeeded in doing its job - ie. conjuring up an agenda-driven narrative, devoid of context.

I actually thought that was an asylum seeker that committed those murders, it's horrible this sort of thing goes on in today's world, I'm shocked the police aren't more vigilant with it but I'm proof how easy it is to spread one side of an argument and I don't really tend to get much news other than the 5 minutes on X scrolling.

No. It’s white people being openly racist, attacking, threatening and burning places unprovoked. And you may have seen some clips of people trying to defend themselves or scare off anyone who is thinking of trying something.

As said above it's horrible this is happening and they can't co-exist peacefully.

Find it hard to believe that the only video you saw on twitter was that one you linked when there are literally hundreds, if not thousands, showing the other side.

Genuinely my twitter seems to default on far-right news apparently (Despite me not following anybody not football related).

It's difficult to understand how you can have lived in the UK (I assume that's the Stevenage that you refer to in your location) and not know what's been happening across the last week. People are laughing and being dismissive because they think you're playing dumb.

If you really have been under a rock all week, there's been an organised, cross England and NI, series of far right riots attacking people and properties that are primarily Muslim, including Mosques, houses and torching hotels with people in them, smashing up towns and businesses and generally terrorising anyone they think isn't suitably racially poor, all supposedly based on the murders in Stockport which were nothing to do with Islam or immigration. Except, of course, the kid who did it is black and therefore, in the minds of the rioters, not British because they're racists.

Furthermore, this comes against a background of many, including politicians, justifying these riots because of immigration.

I'm quite sure some people who are Muslim or minorities (or just not racists) have organised to defend themselves rather than just be terrified. That doesn't make it a "both sides" situation.

For the record I'm not playing dumb and it's for this exact reason I don't tend to watch the news, read papers as it seems everybody is just pushing an agenda and was hoping If I spoke on here I'd get a more reasoned view. So this has all come about because of those attacks on the children (Yes I heard about that!) and some fake news saying the person responsible was an asylum seeker? It's a shame they tarnish everybody with the same brush, just because a person of a certain colour commits a crime it doesn't mean others of the same colour even would? Strange logic.

What do people think we need to do. Do we keep letting people in, or will it have to stop at some point? Does there need to be some sort of vetting service to make sure we are letting genuine refugees in and not criminals. The Tories have let this happen and Labour now have to deal with the mess.

That question probably deserves a thread of its own unless there is already one.

That makes sense, thanks

As I said before, I don't have an opinion I was playing devil's advocate due to the fact most here appear to be one side so I've put a question out there @WeePat explained above quite well that it does appear to be only be pockets of coloured people demonstrating violence and the majority appears to be English, that has been enough to show me it clearly is only pockets and the majority of the problems here are from the right wing English lot.

For what it's worth, not everybody is as informed as you and came looking for an internet fight, I never came in all guns blazing at all or posted a video to backup my opinion, I posted that to show why I initially thought it was both sides and was quickly proven wrong, I appreciate most people here just want to argue and won't necessarily change their opinion but I'm not that person.

Strange use of "Consistently" as I tend to stay out of the generals usually.

That makes sense, it's a shame the police aren't doing more to protect them then.

It's not.

Agreed but that's why it's good to respond like WeePat did and inform me, I wasn't coming looking to rile anybody I was genuinely attempting to understand something as all I've really seen of this has been on X which seems to paint a certain pre determined narrative rather than give an objective view.

Here, have a look at what "the other side" houses has been under for the past week.

Do yourself a favour and don’t use the For You tab on Twitter. Musk is pumping it full of shite and trying to influence shit in the US and the UK.

It’s a classic right wing grifter move for people like that cnut you posted completely ignore all the racist riots happening and then posting one isolated clip of a minority group responding to provocation and acting like they’re the ones causing disruption. It’s massively disingenuous, disgusting and exactly what Musk wants Twitter to be.
I had to actually check twitter and see if I use that tab and unknowingly I do as it defaults there, where is a good place to get fair balanced news? I've seen here that it's clearly a poor source

It's terrible when people misinterpret what you mean when you post "let's go in there and start stabbing".

That makes sense, thanks

@Fingeredmouse did a great analysis of the last week.

What are your thoughts after reading that?

Twitter.com is the answer to that question.
Yup, far right stuff started appearing on my timeline en masse a few days ago, and despite blocking every account that shows up I'm still getting straight up Nazi shit.

The For You used to work well enough, and you'd mostly get stuff you found interesting. It still does for some people, but for others (like me) it's turned almost entirely far right. Like actually far right. Think more Oswald Mosley than Angela Merkel.

There are Twitter accounts out there that are reliable... ish. But I stay off Twitter these days, so I couldn't tell you.

I think I already responded to him but there are so many responses I'm struggling to keep up but obviously like any rational person when presented with facts I concede it's seems to be majorly British based that have gone off on a tangent attacking races of people unwarranted and I hope the police deal with it.

I don't really tend to get much news other than the 5 minutes on X scrolling.
Then that itself is highly problematic. As others have already mentioned here, Musk has turned Twitter into a far-right misinformation farm, so do yourself a favour and avoid it.

Never had any interest of being on Twitter, I am really glad I made that decision.

What is a good balanced news source today then?

Twitter.com is the answer to that question.
Well normally I’d agree with you but this poster has a history of posting conspiracy theories and being on the wrong side of arguments. I recall him spreading covid vaccine disinformation and getting a warning for it. I don’t believe him that he’s some kind of bumbling fool looking to learn.

I think ultimately it's up to Niall but I for one think that the Newbie system we have is still fit for purpose.

I guess just start with reputable news outlets. BBC, Reuters, The Guardian maybe. James O’Brien is good for deconstructing stuff like this.

Avoid shit like the Daily Mail who have stoked this fire and blamed migrants for everything for decades. Or the Telegraph who have framed this as far-right and Muslim both fighting each other when is has been 99% far right violence and thuggery.

What is a good balanced news source today then?
This is an increasingly difficult question to answer. The short answer is - definitely not twitter. I'd probably trawl through the conventionally 'sensible' outlets like the BBC, Reuters, the Guardian and others and come to your own conclusions.

I did get an infraction for that but that's the only time I've had one but I also don't think I'm a "Bumbling fool" and think that's harsh, I'm just not informed on this subject and have shown that I can change my opinion and have openly asked for better sources of news to avoid this in future?

I've found BBC to be tainted before on a few things but two of you have mentioned Reuters so I'll give them a go, thank you.

Basically what Kaos said. The "Norwegian BBC" NRK is also very good, but obviously that's in Norwegian so it doesn't help most people. But those kinds of sources are usually decent. They make mistakes as well, but they're probably not providing you disinformation. And if they do, probably not all of them are at the same time. So glance at a few different ones, if you have the time or interest. Just avoid coming into the "both sides" mindset, where if you've read an article on BBC you have to read the same thing on Fox News (or whatever).

Your post history suggests someone coming late to the party every time to ask questions which are at best “stirring”.
It’s been noticed. Do better.

I would suggest giving Twitter the heave-ho

Maybe complex topics are not for you then.

To be fair, if there's a 30 page thread about a developing issue I am definitely not reading all the pages. Hell, I've been following this thread actively from the start, and if there are 6 new pages when I wake up I'm glancing at the last few. Where he went wrong was coming in so strong with the devil's advocate, but he's admitted that.

BBC have definitely fallen victim to the whole “both sides” shit in recent times, and they’ve used neutral language on this already like calling them “anti-immigration protestors” instead of racist rioters which is what they are. These people aren’t protesting Canadians coming into the country. They’re not against Americans. It’s people with different skin colour.

I was hoping the BBC were just being like this because the Tories had their feet to the fire and had already gutted them and threatened them with cuts, but they’re still being a bit shit.

Fair point

 So you find the BBC tainted but haven't realised Twitter is a right wing cess pit. Of course.

I'm not looking to pick a fight with you, obviously I know it's full of rubbish too. I've said I only use it for football related bits but a few of these videos popped up and I wanted to ask the question here to get a better understanding, with the uproar it's caused I'll read through the thread if I have time next time or get an opinion based on a better source such as Reuters as others have suggested.

Musk has made it in the past so that it defaults to the For You tab. So yeah just keep an eye on that because it will just switch over randomly and have you thinking it’s your actual timeline for a sec. Then you realise it’s nobody you actually follow and switch back.

That's my point, if you're going to wade in to an obviously sensitive issue, tread carefully and don't parrot right wing talking points.
