We’re bit of an odd county, the ceiling is pretty high, just look at what athletes are doing for us at the Olympics but we also shown how low this low this county can get with these right wing loons running around town.

Every year my wife asks me if I’d consider moving to England as her parents are getting older. I tell her the same, I worry about our kids if we go there. It’s getting worse. The country is going to hell in a hand basket. Bet there’s loads now regretting voting for Brexit wishing they could feck off to Europe
Same. My friends tell me they’re all telling each other to stay indoors. One of them said he usually takes his two children to the park for a kick about on Saturdays but he cancelled those plans to stay at home. It literally feels similar to what my African elders told me life was like for them in 80s. Scary times.

To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if copy cat protests happen right across Europe as once this kind of thing goes viral and people in other countries see it, it can inspire groups of far right in those countries to feel emboldened to get in on the action. Nowhere is truly safe now, the global economy is in trouble, worries of recession in America due to their enormous debt, wars raging in many countries. I think we're at the beginning of a soon to be global conflict.

Agreed. This is basically a combination of racism along with cost of living crisis, mental health issues and poverty which means that there is just anger across large sections of the populations. It doesn’t help that some politicians project that all of this is down to immigration and so then things like this happens
Scary times. So sad that we’re still facing such issues in 2024. The decline has been visible for years and the inevitable is now happening.

I work at a hospital and recently we’ve employed lots of people from overseas. And they see all this on the news. I’m trying to explain that it’s not all of us. These folk are some of the best people I’ve worked with. One girl saying she might go back to the Philippines. I think I talked her round. It seems to be the big cities at the moment and fortunately this is a small town so hopefully doesn’t spread here.

That area has a new mosque that was built there a couple of so years back. That mosque has been attacked before. In the early stages a racist ex soldier tried to blow it up. He was caught and sentenced.
Hanley, where the main protest was meant to be was vacant of BME folk. But the right wing plan was to attack the mosque. The lads (not just muslim incidentally ) were locals who weren't prepared to allow that to happen.
Anyone watch GB news or talk TV? Have they dialled down their rhetoric?

So we have got two barbers every close to each other, a couple months ago on a random Tuesday something must of kicked off, full on brawl between 4 or 5 them in the middle of road, once it was done, they shook hands and went back into their the shops.
A few people have said the best thing for Muslims would be to stay at home and not meet violence with violence.
Overall with work by community leaders and police businesses etc were shut in the main areas of the expected protest.
Messages have been going round telling folk to stay in. Women and children were basically housebound for.the day.
It was only key sites, like the mosque, which had "security" from locals, Muslim and non Muslim.
However this lack of presence meant businesses got done over and gave "courage" to the right wingers.
Can't help but wonder of those around the mosques had "met" with these people things may have got unsavoury but settled quickly. Cowards in the main going from past experience.

One of the guys who is a gold medal hopeful at these Olympics went the same school as me where he mercilessly bullied the Muslim girls - including constantly trying to snatch off their headscarves.
