England in India 2021

Channel 4 are being quite cute with their coverage. Mambo No 5 at the start, Simon Hughes just now doing a cameo.

Tricky situation for England regarding the timing of the declaration. Can't give enough time to India and you are running the risk that india gets a lead of 150-200 runs with England batting on the final day or play till lunch tomorrow and reduce the time they get to bowl India out twice. All said and done, I wouldn't want to be playing to survive on this pitch on the last day.

I feel England should go for the win and put pressure on India by having them bat today for sometime. No point scoring 650 plus and batting for half a day tomorrow too and then get a draw. This has been a fine display of batting but has been a crap pitch so England should hope for some wear and tear in day 3/4/5. I would take the risk anyways rather than letting the match being played for a draw when you are dominating.

As an Indian fan I will take a draw this match and focus on the next one.

If India want to bat on this they can bowl us out.

There’s not really much point in talk of declarations with 470 on the board. It’s not enough. Buttler will have to get a move on if there’s any chance of declaring today, think England will look for 550 at least.

When England did this in 2016 against India and scored 477 they lost the game by an innings. I'm not saying that is even possible to happen again but scoring 650 plus will make it a draw or a win and make the game plan easy. Bowl them out twice or get a draw.

Root and Pope gone. 600 plus looks difficult now. I hope our bowlers just bundle them out under 500 or even 550.

Great to see the pitch deteriorating when you've got 480 on the board.

People talking about declaring tonight - why? Bat as long as possible!! The longer we bat, the worse the pitch will be when India use it.

Also agreed with this. Last time was a freak result. India putting up 700 and England’s day 5 collapse were both outlier events.

I know @Utd heap said 600, but I’d get to 550 and go for the win. England’s game this.

Yeah agreed. The problem wasn't scoring 'only' 477, it was not having the bowlers to make an impression. Let's hope we're more penetrative this time.

There's 3 days left after today. 270 overs. Let's say India score about three an over.

If we get to 810 tonight then we should declare. Otherwise keep batting.

No matter what we think there is not a chance England themselves will declare tonight. They have set their stall out for 650 if not bowled out, could tell by Roots interview last night

Some proper nonsense being talked on DRS there. Cheers lads.

I wonder if India will select a better team for the next match. No Siraj or Kuldeep wtf? Has Ishant left the field?

edit: ishant back on....

It was well outside off stump. That angle from behind showed how much reverse swing there was.

Also kept a touch low it looked like it would sail over and wide

Any time you don't play a shot and get clean bowled though, it's a bad leave.

It was a frantic innings all over from Buttler, he was back to when he looked all at sea in Test Cricket. Strange
