And yet, in all the big CL matches, Bellingham played in the 6/8 role. Drift into channels and then sit in on the midfield line in defense. Look at the heat maps vs Bayern and City, compared to the heat maps vs typical La Liga teams.

Why dont you show me instead of saying go look at them. The reason he would be in the 6/8 role in games against City is that City dominate the ball so much that the opposition have to sit.

I don't think Bellingham should start. The guy is not that good. No chance he doesn't, though.

Bellingham will start but he needs to be utilised differently.
For one, I won't have him in a midfield 3 but England, for all the talk of yet another Golden Generation, are quite lacking in the midfield area. Outside of Rice and Mainoo the replacements are quite mediocre/lacking.

Considering GS obsession with the 433 formation I expect to see Rice, Mainoo and Bellingham look just as disjointed as they did against Belgium.

He probably would be better off going Rice, Bellingham, Foden, and just asking Bellingham to sit a bit more. He looked world class at Dortmund doing that, so no reason to shoehorn it with Bellingham at 10.

I'll admit I thought Bellingham at the 10 would be better for most of the season, but getting Foden central could be the better option.

Seriously, the guy is Real Madrid's best player for 3/4 of the season, running on fumes towards the end and has a bad patch.

"Guy is not that good."

Did you watch a single minute of La Liga this season?

This is what I would go for particularly as Forden has struggled out wide for England. Also think Gordon's ability to run in behind would be useful

Bellingham would be ineffective sitting deep for England and I don't think he'd enjoy playing that role now after the freedom he's been afforded at Real.

Well, England have a left wing issue now. Gordon's good but not amazing and we all know Rashford is unlikely to go.
Grealish has gone off the boil too.

We have a left side issue full stop as don't see Shaw featuring until at least the knockout stages. Think if Chilwell had been fit then could well have been left out when the squad is cut. Strange not to include Mitchell at all with both LB options carrying injuries.

Rashy "unlikely". His PR team is working overtime on all socials. He didn't make the 33 training squad so 0% chance of going.

Agreed. Not only that Jude will be ineffective, it will be an unbalanced team. Jude is not a passer of the ball, we have not seen much of him dictating play, he is more a link player, he has the fancy one touch passes and running off that.

He is much much better playing higher up.

Jude deeper also put more pressure on Rice, who we have seen the season just gone, needs another 6/8 next to him to excel. Start of the season Arsenal tried him and 2 8's and it didnt work, they had to play Jorginho or Partey.

We need players in our midfield that will get the ball into our forwards.

Anyone know if Mainoo will be involved in the friendly tonight?
I don't think so, or at least not from the start. I was watching some of the training clips and I didn't see Mainoo, Stones or Foden in them. I think the players that started in the FA Cup final may have been given a few extra days off.

He won’t.

Edit: That’s what I read on the United app. Southgate said only Maguire, Shaw, Gordon, Saka & Stones won’t play.
Cheers - why I wasn't sure as Southgate didn't mention him when talking about absentees from the squad.

Think they will join up when Bellingham does

I know its a friendly but that looks really unbalanced.
Yeah but it's practically 10 subs. The balance will come with the first 11. Only Palmer out there I feel could force himself into the first 11, can't really see that happening

What's the point of that line up, virtually no 1st team players.

I thought the whole point of pre tournament friendlies was to play your 1st to get them used to playing with each other.
I assume these are the players more at risk of getting cut from the squad and Southgate wants one final look before deciding.

The ones who played in F.A. Cup final and CL final are not starting. Some are carrying knocks.

I fecking hate pointless friendlies. Play the first team you useless cnut!

Imagine if this clueless prick ends up managing United

I think I'm going to watch Car SOS instead.

In fairness I'm not deciding who plays ;)

Glad he's given Mainoo a longer rest after the cup final. Hopefully Gallagher doesn't pull up any trees tonight as I want to see Mainoo start most games in the Euros, otherwise I'll have very little interest in rooting for England!

Wish they moved the England games round the country a bit more. Really enjoyed it when they were building Wembley.

I’d be quite happy if Mainoo gets left behind to be honest. A good summer break could really help him for us next season.

Hopefully Gallagher and someone else absolutely smashes it before the squad is named.

It’s rare that anything good happens from United players playing for England anyway. They’re usually scapegoated for something and we end up having to deal with the fallout.

This is probably a nothing game for you as we are really shit. Also a new manager who hasn't even come to a game unfortunately, he needed some medical help.
