England - Euro 2021 Discussion | FA chairman: Southgate to be offered new contract until Euro 2024

Will call it now....England will get to the final this year.

Little breaks here and there just like Portugal got in 2016.

Right side of the draw again....imagine England having to play any of Spain/Italy/Belgium in quarters after the effort put in today. Instead Ukraine or Sweden is o.k as neither will stretch England that much. England won pretty comfortably v Sweden in the quarters in 2018 IIRC so that isn't a jinxed opponent anymore.

Likes of Mount, Grealish, Rashford and Sancho will be very fresh for business end of the tournament compared to say Belgium potentially losing De Bruyne and Hazard and not having the depth.

Pickford making good saves at key moments and that Muller miss.....again them the breaks that England didn't get at other tournaments.

For all the stick Southgate is getting nothing wrong at all with 0 goals conceded from 4 games.

Think it will be England/Italy final if I had to call it now but obviously Belgium and Spain will have a say. Playing at Wembley will also be big leveller.

The battle between the talent of this English side and the impulses of their manager rumbles on for another round.

From the POV of someone who doesn't want England to win, every game Grealish starts on the bench is a godsend.

Credit to Southgate for getting it right. In these tournaments only thing that matters is results and he is getting it.

0 goals conceded too.

Thanks England for beating Germany. Well done. Shaw has got to be motm, no?

Southgate the most underrated coach on this forum

Zero goals conceded and a clear path to the final

Solid win and a real test for this team. I’d fancy England to beat anyone left in the tournament. Southgate has made us hard to beat, which is what international tournament football is about.

I wish he would start Grealish though.

Get the feck in. Maguire has been magnificent last 2 games, Shaw great today too. Raz gonna Raz, fall over, give the ball away but ulitmately have a huge hand in deciding the game. Very controlled performance from a team who haven't conceded a goal vs two of the best teams in Europe in Germany and Croatia. Stones and Maguire look great together. The big concern is a lack of creativity maybe a Sterling, Kane, Grealish front 3 is the answer as opposed to benching Raheem for Sancho.

Completely deserved win, more so in terms of the physical battle then on good football (both teams were average on that front). Next game is not at Wembley right? Sweden could be a very dull game presuming Sweden go through of course.

I'd love it! Said it all along, I'd happily see us 1-0 our way to glory.

Anyone with bit of sense should take it. It's not a league, it's knock out tournament and only thing that matters is winning.

Still cowardly from Southgate, but it's working for now! I do think he'll need to grow some balls in the next few games though. Need to start Grealish, and ask your fullbacks to push up a bit more. Shaw, Grealish and Sterling made the difference for them here, and they need to build on that.

Thought England deserved the win. The Muller miss was massive, but other than that thought England were pretty good value if not the most exciting.

Grealish made a difference when coming on, you can see the way that helped Shaw out and ultimately led to going ahead.

Don't think England played that negatively. They passed well and moved forward with purpose. I thought Phillips was a real force in midfield, decent passing and remarkable poise. Shaw was great too but Saka should've come out at halftime
Germany though, what a shite performance, this is probably the worst Germany side I've seen in a long time. Just horrible, no fight, no creativity, just fancy flicks here and there

Don't rate his approach at all but, credit to him - in the end it's about lifting the trophy and not many will remember how conservative he sets up with the talent they have.

Kane is so incredibly slow. Moves like a centre half from the early 90s. Credit to him for bagging his goal though.
