The amount of people claiming Foden shouldn’t have come off
He was getting into the game the moment he came off. It would have been better to take one of the DMs off but Southgate didn’t have the balls for that.

Did anyone see Grealish make a pass to one of his off the pitch teammates. It's at around 91 minutes 40. One of the squad members is more or less on the touchline giving encouragement to the team and Grealish clearly mistakes him for one of his on the field teammates. He immediately reacts by bringing his hands up to his head.
Southgate has obviously not watched Rashford up front for us, or our struggles against deep defences. I thought that was a stunningly incompetent decision to put on a player that excels moving into space into a role with very little space. At that point Scotland were mostly settling for a draw with the odd counter. Would have been far more productive to get balls into DCL.There are?
He hasn't done a thing since hitting the post in the first few minutes against Croatia. The far more questionable sub was sticking Rashford up top as a centre forward.
Problem is the FA decided to go down the route of hiring english coaches...and they are all pretty much average! (Apart from Rogers)England really like having average managers, he needs to do better with the squad he has.
Did Southgate play for second in the group, to avoid Germany/Portugal and meet Sweden instead? Could be genius that
Isn’t that almost impossible with four points now?
He definitely told the full backs to be cautious. Shaw was far far deeper than he plays for United.
I agree and he also needs to consider dropping Kane who looks miles off the pace. Tonight’s performance could be a blessing in disguise of it makes him change his tactics and starting eleven, not going to hold my breath though.
Clayton is OleIN. If England would beat Liberia he would say that Southgate is doing great no matter what tactical decision he had, just like he thinks Ole is on the up for beating WBA at home in a bore-fest with a penalty. England will obviously never win with Southgate, just like United never will win anything with Ole. You need good coaching to win things, neither of them is good at that. Exactly like in the WC, favorable draw but still got beat by a better coached team (who is not as good on paper).
Playing two players either side of Kane who want to get the ball to feet and face away from goal, while also telling Kane to come deep, like he does at Spurs, must be the dumbest decision at senior coaching level and evidence Southgate really doesn't have a clue.
Sorry, it's not hyperbole. The reason why Kane going deep worked/works at Spurs is Son etc are flying past him into the space he vacates.
It's so easy to defend against this because Kane is moving AWAY FROM THE GOAL AS ARE FODEN AND STERLING meaning Grant Fecking Hanley is able to have the game played in front of him.
It's beggars belief a "top" coach can get something so wrong.
I also echo the comments on here regarding Sterling, I can only assume he has compromising photos of Southgate. He has been shocking for 24 months now. City flatter him, massively and it's no surprise he is in the shop window. The guy has done VERY well to have the career he has by joining City.
If he starts the next game, then Southgate has to go post tournament.
Doesn't pick them based on England performances either clearlySouthgate doesn't seem to make decisions based on how players perform or do for their clubs, except Kane who gets to play his Spurs role, which is nothing but a negative to how we should be using him.

Honestly don’t know how Sterling is starting or staying on the pitch. He scored 1 goal so far, but he’s buggered up a load of chances. The guy is not clinical, get him off. We’re dominating possession and doing nothing with it because we lack the numbers up front and the players to capitalise.
He's been better than Foden and Kane by miles, Mount too. Easily the bright spark in a poor English attack.
Foden should be dropped next game, Kane too. Weird to single out the only English player offering a threat
I'm still stunned by Sir Graeme White-Teefnness
The chemicals and technology involved must've made the COVID vaccines pale in comparison.
What are you on about? He runs behind beautifully, and then runs into a player making any build up play worthless. His end product is garbage, which makes the rest pointless. He's been better than Foden and Kane by miles, Mount too. Easily the bright spark in a poor English attack.

Blinded by the lights like a storming night at Fabric or Ministry of Sound in their heydey. They look great don’t they!!
I was fuming at this evening performance but when the game finished and it went to Souness and his veneers….I was like wow, tonight’s been a good night

Dont think Southgate is going to drop Kane and Sterling which is really sad.
Think he already made his mind up going in to the tournament that them two are his first choice attack and even if it costs him his job, so be it.
Such a shame really, we are gonna see a repeat of the 2018 England - Croatia game when England do exit the tournament.
I thought that in the first game as well. Though he is doing well in the position for CIty, he isnt a right winger, bar some early moments in games he looks far better when he starts to drift inside. I think we need to see more of that with the ball froma few players. Only one who is really drifting is Kane....too deep, we look rigid and unimaginative, pass pass pass, long ball out wide to run on to.
I would like to see Grealish start and see him Foden and Mount interchanging and stretching teams as even if we improve our performances, at the moment we look totally predictable and keeping an attacking shape isnt working so far when we are not at all cohesive
Eh, I would agree that Mounts space creation was very strong from his deeper role and he was overall probably the best English field player today.
However, the praise for Fodens space creation comes with a pretty big caveat for me. Yes, his neat interplay with the FB can create spaces to operate in, but there are way too often not in dangerous areas on the edge or inside the box but rather in the half spaces in front of the last defense line. This is well enough to keep possession and control high, but does not produce much danger. Foden is in general not that suited for a wider role IMO as he does not cut inward or deep enough on the side for that. He is better off either up front or in a central midfield role.
In the game vs. Scotland Fodens space creation in deeper regions actually had an contradictory effect as it lured Kane outside the box and away from the goal. This can work if your striker is a monster with the back to the goal like Lewandowski, but Kane is nowhere near as good in that regard.
