England - Euro 2021 Discussion | FA chairman: Southgate to be offered new contract until Euro 2024

And the OTT praise after the Croatia game. The praise the likes of Rio,Neville, Lampard were throwing at this team.
Why do they do this?
Because if they don't do that, they're called names by the England crowd. Even pointing out that Southgate fecked up the lineup against Croatia was met with jeers around here. It's like football fans have no ability for critical thinking.

We won = England are world class
We draw or lost = England are shite

There's no in between

was like watching United struggle against a lower premier league club.

slow, ponderous

lacklustre.

Weird how its pointed out that no crosses comes in without realising its because Kane has fecked off out of the box again and left nobody in there to cross to

I get the feeling Southgate is picking Sterling just because of the disgraceful abuse he's received. That's not smart. I wouldn't be using him at all, but he certainly should have been off at half time.

Mount and Foden should be fighting their way into this team, not automatic starters.

Not comparing Southgate to Solskjaer but much of the poor points being raised are very similar when comprehensively observing United. Midfield that is set up to be conservative vs creative. Team looks like a bunch of individuals, poor build up play, expecting substitutes to make a difference individually compared to tactically.
In fairness United also have one of the fastest, most deadly counter attacks in the world which is an added dimension to the game but the set up is a bit negative and similar at times; two dms, a solid but slightly suspect defence/'keeper and a reliance on a star player to just produce something special.

Credit to Scotland who did well, but we were piss poor. Can be many an argument about starting line ups, sure most of us would be starting certgain players that arent, but have different line ups.

Many went overboard against what is lookign an average Croatia side, we were no more than decent.

We were piss poor in Euro 96 the first game and against Scotland til the Gazza goal and we were also piss poor all th eway through the group in Italia 90, so too early to panic.

What really was poor tonight though was utilising our bench. I actualyl like SOuthgate, but his managment of a poor performance was jsut as poor as the performance.

Phillips (who for me isnt good enough at the top level, he often over commits and gets rolled, happened again tonight, was also too safe alongside Rice. They were both too deep and had no bite........Bellingham should have come on.

Sterling, again his touch (liek the first game) was often lacking, why on earth did SOuthgate bring Foden off instead? Sterling should have com eoff and so should mount who tired in the second half. Foden should have taken Mounts position, Grealish on the left and SAncho on the right and Calvert Lewin should have com eon up front for his phsyical presence as thats all Scotland had at the back.....why do we keep bringing Rashford on up front or on the right, all Utd fans know he isnt effective there.

I think this side is weak in certain areas......but is still capable of doign well in this tournament if they perform....but SOuthgate needs to select the right starting eleven and he also needs to utilise that bench that does have good options attackign wise.....so far he has done neither.

Individually, so far only Pickford has been excellent, Phillips, Sterling, Mings etc who got plaudits....they didnt excel, that was a myth, collectively we have been average and poor over the two games

Is it a case of Southgate not knowing his best eleven, or thinking he does and having it wrong? I’d say it’s the later, I can’t see many changes going into the last match.

I can’t see him changing much, he needs a couple of players to come on as subs and force his hand in the last game as he is picking wrong players.

Can see Grearlish starting next game maybe but not many other changes, maybe Walker or Trippier back at RB.

Really odd subs I thought, Rashford and Shaw have a great partnership at Utd and we were desperate for some creativity centrally seemed obvious to put Grealish in for Mount and have Rashford out wide. Scotland played well to be fair and stopped us playing but Southgate just didn’t seem to have a plan b and I’m not entirely sure he knows what his plan a is

Scarily Souness has actually spoken some sense in his England bashing this evening

Souness is the only pundit not afraid to say the truth about England.

That match just made me feel sad. I expected this from us, but its so disappointing to actually witness this group of players being totally and utterly wasted by someone just simply not good enough to do the job.

Poor Sancho must be wishing he didn't bother and went on holiday.

Southgate could make 5 subs. England were fecking shite and blatantly needed a change and he only used 2.

Dogshit performance.
Southgate once again gets things wrong.
Finally started a proper lb which was good but failed with a hugely conservative cm ok pairing .’
We don’t need rice AND Phillips vs Scotland.
The balance was all wrong.
What we’d give for a scholes in cm not that he ever fecking played there when he was eligible !

Southgate's complete aversion to using his bench, when we've got so much talent, and we can make 5 bloody subs  if you don't laugh you'll cry. I've got a feeling the next game will be the worst so far too.

Why do they do this?

Yes, lots of people said what a good performance it was. I foudn msyelf coming across a moaner and negative with my opinion we were pretty average bar the first 20mins.

I liked Ferdinand as a pundit when he started, but am starting to tire of him. The "listen" every time he starts a sentence and just the wya he generally waffles his point across with no idea what he is going to say "sit down and stand up" being a recent wtf moment. He should just stick to talkign about defending as that the one thing he still does well as a pundit.

Although weak in certain areas I do still think this side is capable of doing well...But individually and collectively the performances have to improve massivly and Southgate needs to improve dramtaically with hi steam selections and substitutions as well. SO far we have been average to poor from top to bottom bar Pickford for me

Simply cant compare international and club management

While that is true, good managers will shine anywhere.

I don't think it's coincidental that Italy look like one of the few cohesive units at the Euros - Mancini is unusual among the managers at the tournament in that he's actually won trophies and competed in one of Europe's top leagues.

Did anyone see Grealish make a pass to one of his off the pitch teammates. It's at around 91 minutes 40. One of the squad members is more or less on the touchline giving encouragement to the team and Grealish clearly mistakes him for one of his on the field teammates. He immediately reacts by bringing his hands up to his head.

And Enrique. But ,yes, the managers outside of those two aren't all that.

Sterling is shite and shouldn't have played the full game

Our right hand side was garbage going forward and defending- Reece James gave us nothing going forward and everything good we did came down the left.

Foden should not have come off. Absolutely bizarre.

Kane isn't getting any service but he's not in the number 9 areas of the pitch. Come deep now and again but not all the time you cnut.

No need to play with two 6s - need someone in the middle to dictate play.

Sets up for a really weird 3rd game where England would probably prefer to draw than win, to come 2nd, and gawd knows what the Czechs would want, they might be best served losing it by one goal.

You might as well get Paul Fecking Ince at this rate.
