That was the way I used to bat. I was a good spin bowler and fielder so they kept me in the team but apart from flicking the ball behind me I was useless with the bat. Any side that played us half regularly knew they could put a couple of slips either side of the wicket keeper and I'd be gone inside 2 overs.

Lol KP in the commentary box taking every opportunity to take shots at Anderson and Broad. Get this clown out of there.

Marsh with a 100 with Australia 402/7
Don’t get with England’s quick attack and a injured spinner why Joe Root thought it would be a good idea to bowl first. Anderson and broad are not that good on flat wickets, if it’s seaming and swinging around then they are as good as anyone,

Play abandoned for the day due to rain with England 1/29 trailing Australia by 413 runs with three days remaining in the test.

Thinking ahead are there any like decent proper fast bowlers in England. Wood's fitness is not up to scratch and not sure how good Plunkett is in the long form either. It's a bit worrying because even in the longer-term future I can't think of any pace bowlers who hit 85mph+ consistently and play a lot of longer form stuff.

Fast fast?

From the youngsters Jamie Overton is probably the quickest around. Recovering from a stress fracture at the minute though. Garton and Tongue are both supposed to be brisk (but not sure how fast in mph terms) and Matthew Fisher might put on a few yards over the next year or so (he had a horrible 16 and 17 though with multiple injuries and issues with his hearing.

But I think the issue is that England play too much cricket so even those capable of touching 90mph get slowed down to preserve themselves, or get injured. See Finn, Wood, Meaker (who got Englanded before even playing a test for England) etc....

I think England need a root and branch overhaul of how they develop quicks.

It's no exaggeration to say the series is now in serious jeopardy for England. A couple of poor sessions and this test is Australia's and we'll struggle to fight back from 2-0 down. I'll expect Root and Trev out on the balcony doing rain dances if the wickets start tumbling later.

Lose this test, or even these next two sessions and it’s 5-0

I was reading something earlier where Clive Lloyd said the West Indies produced so many genuinely quick bowlers by just letting them bowl as fast as they could as kids rather than drumming line and length into them which tends to be the case in England. That's partly down to the pitches we're brought up on but his argument is that you can be taught to bowl straight afterwards.

Plunkett should have gone on the tour for me - he's aggressive and bowls a decent yorker with the old ball too plus he's no mug with the bat which stiffens a pretty limp England tail. Jake Ball has bowled absolute muck.

We're also crying out for a left armer IMO.

Worth trying Sam Curren as the Left armer

Hopefully Tom Curren can be that man

That batting lineup is crying for world class players like KP, Strauss, Trott and Stokes. This England team has a problem with scoring runs. Vince and Stoneman are not going to bat Starc, Cummins and Hazlewood out of this game or the series. Two bad sessions now and England have lost this series after just seven and a half days.

This may very well end up 5-0.

England putting up sterner resistance than I expected.

Argh, this is not a vintage Aussie side. The batting is painfully average, England's pace bowling has been so so disappointing.

What an over from Anderson just now.. Should have got Khawaja too.

Wow. Aussies need to get atleast 350 lead to feel safe.

It's not going to prove costly but Australia should have enforced the follow on IMO.

All very predictable so far I’m afraid. Without quickies and/or a big spinner of the ball England were always going to struggle. Also, it should have been blatantly obvious to the England team that the Ozzie’s would prepare pitches with the unbelievably underrated Lyon in mind. England should have gambled on Mason Crane (in stead of for example funky field placings or putting the opposition in to bat).

England are giving themselves a good chance.

England actually rallied after Lyon’s catch off Moeen (Starc caught Bairstow). CSKA have got more chance of winning 5-0 tonight than England winning this test match, so I wouldn’t get your hopes up too much even if it’s nice to see the Ozzie bitches squirm a little.

Yeah great news to wake up to. Don’t think we’ll chase it but nice to see we’ve left even a slim chance. But realistically Cook and Stoneman need at least a 100 partnership here to get us going.

My god, Cook was actually horrendous this innings. Stoneman has looked very comfortable.

What a turn around for England!! Going to be a great final day tomorrow.. I think they can win it..
