England Cricket Summer 17 - South Africa & West Indies

Rabada is suspended for the 2nd test for using inappropriate language to Ben stokes

What a joke. Has that happened before?

Badly reported there. Basically Rabada has accumulated demerit points for previous behaviour, this has pushed him past the threshold for a ban.

It's because he already had previous demerits or whatever they're called from a previous incident. It wasn't a ban just for this one thing.

OK cheers guys, makes sense with that context.

Watching Alastair Cook plod along is one of my favourite things in all of sport.

Looking forward to tomorrow.

ICC copying the Caf version then.

De Kock the gun should come in at 4, drop Duminy

Fixed.

I think they will look better when Faf comes back. Kuhn, Elgar, Amla, Du Plessis, QDK, Bavuma, Be Bruyn looks a lot more solid.

Wait he actually got an infraction point for saying 'feck off'? How come Stokes hasn't been banned yet, he says that to someone every game. Come to think of it, must have been the WUM Stokes that provoked Rabada.

Duminy's stealing a living for like 10 years now.

It's a shame De Villiers doesn't fancy it anymore, I'd be tempted to have QDK opening.

Stokes is on 3 demerit points, so if he gets one more he is banned as well.

And has over a year to go, in that position.

Do you start from scratch after the ban? Will we just get him to scream obscenities at school children at some point when the next game is a dead rubber?

Keep the spinners going. Moeen's as likely to finish the job here as the new ball is. Then if that fails we have a plan B.

The new ball doing a bit so no wrong decision to be made with respect to continuing with the spinners or not, Moeen with a hard new ball might be worth a shout before lunch too.

Very good catch! Now let's mop up the rest of the tail for peanuts & set them an ungettable score.

The umpires seem to be favouring SA, that looked plumb as feck

It's one of an annoying unspoken rules in cricket that if a batsman has gone out of crease then he can't be given lbw due to height. Pretty rubbish.

Lead of 97, and maybe no Philander to bowl, important England declare at the right time

Finally out, such a negative top 3, should be taking the game to SA who are a bowler down

1. It's a test match.
2. The pitch is spinning.
3. South Africa are bowling well.

This England team have got themselves in to shit situations on more than a few occasions being overly aggressive at times like this.

Yep. Accumulate now, up the rate later. Don't lose wickets now so you end up having to grind out the runs.

It's not like we are pushed for time, no point being stupid now.

England in an incredibly strong position in this game. Bat sensibly in the morning, have a post lunch dart and declare with four sessions left to go.

Right, Flintoff's sold this Big Bash game to me.

It's also very much in England's interest to have the pitch wear down as much as they can but giving themselves enough time to bowl South Africa out.

Been far too many maidens so far 20/51 (compared to 11/105 in the 1st innings) not asking for them to do anything stupid, a RR off 3 an over would have been fine a lead of 250, don't want to get to the stage of India in the 1st test what should have been an easy win they batted too slow and didn't give themselves enough time to bowl them out.

True, but the pace appears to have gone out of the pitch, it's not coming through and its keeping low when banged in short which all combine to making it hard to time the ball.

Warne might be saying it's a good pitch because it's turning, but it's not a pitch that will give you an absorbing, faced pace game it's bound to be attritional.

I'd add in my desire to give the top three the best chance they have to get themselves some form to take in to the next match, given this is the first match of the summer.

Let them try and set things up and then Root and Bairstow score quite quickly, regardless. Stokes and Moeen seem to enjoy coming in with license.
