BTW, i think Bayliss will persist with Hales for the first two tests of England's series vs Pakistan.
Yeah, I think so. Largely because we have no shortage of batting worries and he's not the biggest one. We can't drop all of them.
He'll get to India now, at least. I don't know, as much as he frustrates me by having a brain of a pea there's clearly a good player in there. If we could send him off the same place we need to send Stokes and get them both brain transplants we'd be well placed.
Sri Lanka need one more wicket here and they could have us in a lot of trouble.
To be fair to Stokes I think he's more of a case of maturity than being stupid, he's got a lot of gifts but he needs to pick and choose his moments better. Hales to me right now just seems to be muddled in his thinking, he doesn't seem to have any idea of what type of player he's supposed to be in this test team, he fluctuates from Trott to Trescothick in no time at all.
They need to get one of these either before tea or shortly after. Longer this partnership goes on the longer they're thinking about that drop.
Compton is done. With Bairstow and Moeens recent form with the bat, I think they'll bring Buttler back rather than a specialist batsman.

Mathews' captaincy is bobbins, I know he's not got the greatest attack at his disposal but he's overbearingly negative. Bairstow's looked a bit iffy outside off today and he's got a 2nd slip, a 4th slip and a gully with a sweeper at square either side of the wicket and a deep fine leg. He's got one slip in for Ali who's on 12. It's not a great pitch but the game situation dictates a different mindset and Mathews is far too quick to go on the defensive. Surprised Warne has not picked up on this considering he wouldn't shut up about Cook a few summers back, even though England were winning.
I know how these Sri Lanka bowlers feel with Bairstow batting the hell out of them. Used to play against him in York when he was at St Peters. He scored an unbeaten 150 against us and kept us in the field for 80 overs or so. Was an absolute nightmare. Just couldn't get the guy out.

It's Vince I'm more worried about than Hales. For lack of a better word he's looked a bit shit so far.
Surprised that Bairstow was given not out as it just looked out, how was that umpires call?
Buttler should not be brought back. He has to work on his technique, they have to give some of the in form county players a chance Sam Robson, Paul Westley etc

First ODI today, hoping for a sterner workout than we received in the Test series. I work a few miles from Nottingham and the weather is set fair - for now!
Sri Lanka is 5th and we are 4th in the IDI standings. Is this likely to change after today?
I wouldn't think it will change until after the series personally but not sure
England are well on top SL were 56-3 now 115/3 but both men on strike have poor strike rates Chandimal SR is 69 and Matthews is 56
