spot on cheers, I don't work Fridays so hoping to get a good 10 hours in tomorrow.

Just about to install this on Xbox, anyone got any tips on what not to do when first starting.
Don't get bogged down in one area if you find a certain part too tough or you are dying continually. It's a big and beautiful and crazy world - find stuff to do and level up and try again at something you failed at later. This is the biggest difference between it and BloodBorne or Dark Souls. You're not restricted in your movement.

Good luck.

I’m a bit bored of the open world areas to be honest. It’s very much just going around killing enemies, and a lot of the times they simply rehash the same bosses. I only do it so I can find the actual fun mini dungeons but even they get a bit stale.

it’s also weirdly a bit too easy. I mean a Souls game is supposed to be about pain and lots of death and suffering but the open world and most mini dungeons are easy, you only get it with the legacy dungeons of which I’ve come across a grand total of 1 in my 20+ hour playtime.

I know it’s supposed to be find your own way and do your own thing but I maintain that if you’re not going to do enemy scaling there should at least be SOME guidance on where to go next so you don’t end up over levelled. I feel like that’s what’s happened to me, maybe I did Stormveil too soon.

Bloodborne was better.

Agree. I'm a massive dark souls fan, but I'm finding this a bit of a bore. I'm late in the game though and some of the bosses are really hard. But yeah a lot of the mini bosses are rehashed and most of the items I find aren't interesting or useful. It's a good game, but it's not a perfect 10. I'd give it 8/10 so far.

Have you played souls games before? Basically you need to be patient in fighting always and know that dying repeatedly is part of the learning process! Also worth looking up a couple of the tips for starting out with some must have starting/early game items and how to get them.

For leveling up, focus on a build and what you want to do. Look at some weapons and what their requirements are and level up to that. You can eventually respec but it's a bit annoying when you mess up like i did and have just even levels everywhere that end up being wasted. Much better when you level up to a build that maximizes your play style.

Do all the small little caves before going to the main dungeons. Good for training and leveling up.

Margit took me 15 or so goes, mostly cowering behind a shield. I just beat Godrick first time using dual greatswords.

These games are weird.

cheers chaps, my 11 was saying I'd struggle with it because I never really got Dark Souls but feck him, it looks mint and I'm a sucker for open world games

eBay is about to be flooded with copies of this

That’s what happens when you don’t release a decent game for two years. Then the only one that looks good is only £50, but oh yeah unplayable.

*Riding/Running through the Lands Between*
*Ambient music changes to combat music*
’Oh feck, what is going to attack me now’
*Pans camera around the near area to locate threat*
’Uhhh’
*Giant Dragonfly trying to engage you, zooming around at the speed of light*
’Ah ffs’

Everyone’s had that right?

So thought I was getting the hang of it took down 3 horsemen (jump and L1) seems to work, only to be killed by a flower and lose all my runes :(

Yeah, they're fecking annoying!

Luckily, I choose astrologer and I'm running a magic build. So I can easily shoot them down.

As a heads up for anyone too, I’d advise you to talk to NPCs on a regular basis as side quests potentially open up if you stumble upon any strange phenomena in the world.

Rode into one area this week, noticed something very specific in the area, much later…I went back to one of the early NPCs you encounter and there was an option to talk about this very specific thing and then I got hints on what appears to be a quest.

Having a blast so far. Playing a full melee non magic character for the added difficulty. Is it just me or is it a little easier than other From games? I'm not too deep in yet but

Just beat
Godrick and found him far easier than Margit
I'll beaten pretty much everything in Limgrave except
the Dragon.
at least that I've found. Longest I was on any particular boss was about 2 hours.

Just started this. No idea what’s happening but I’m sure I’ll pick it up.

Pick Vagabond, don't try and fight the big guy on a horse that you see the moment you get outside in the world. Good luck.

I picked Warrior cause I thought I’d need to dodge a lot.

Margit is a cnut. feck him.

I loved that fight, a real classic. But its unusually hard for how early it comes, even for a From game.
I think everyone just tackles it too early, honestly. I was 15 when I went to him which was way too low. Ideally you'd do all of Lingrave including the Weeping Peninsula and East Lingrave first and hit him at 30+ and also after fighting a lot more bosses first. After beating him and doing the castle, the next 10 hours were fecking child's play for me

Is this a game where things are in pots or can my warped gaming brain stop smashing everything I see.

 never in pots but the odd time behind them, but it's usually a mushroom or something. Main thing is to make sure you explore every nook and cranny, look for places you can jump to or on. There are loads of hidden items scattered around the place. (and enemies waiting to ambush you)

also don't be afraid to use a guide or look up stuff, from software games explain very little to you and leave you to figure most stuff out yourself which can be really daunting.

I just went into some castle and some massive fecker with an exposed ribcage flattened me

I'd head south if you're just starting out. If you follow the light you'll likely be under levelled when you explore the castle.

I have never been able to summon anyone. It just instantly says unable to summon player instantly.

I need to be a more accomplished, tactical fighter. I'm still slashing my way through enemies, and inevitably dying loads, like I'm playing a Devil May Cry game.

Yeah I’m down at the beach now. That fecking giant somehow found me there too but I bolted.
