Chief executive Ed Woodward has left Manchester United's tour of Australia early to carry out urgent transfer business - with Sky Sports understanding the deal involves a player arriving at Old Trafford.
Although it is unclear what deal Woodward is working on, he apparently told United officials of his immediate departure whilst they were at the State of Origin Rugby League match at ANZ Stadium.
Woodward was not at the game and is expected to return to Europe at some point on Thursday.
United have been linked with Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas, and have already had one bid turned down by the Spanish champions.
Everton duo Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini have also been strongly tipped to join their former boss David Moyes at United - with the Merseysiders already rebuffing one offer for Baines.
Woodward's sudden decision to return to Britain comes as speculation continues over the future of unsettled striker Wayne Rooney, with United rejecting an approach from Premier League rivals Chelsea in the past 24 hours.
He was due to return home on Sunday and his decision to cut short his trip to the Far East indicates the urgency of the situation requiring his attention.

Flights Today!

Here is what our top* journalists have found today regarding flights. Woodwoodwood has intentions to board a flight back to the UK, involving an INCOMING transfer.

Papiss Cisse did NOT board a flight out of the UK due to disagreements with Newcastles shirt sponsor, this all leads to the obvious...

Conclusion. Woodwoodwood is coming home and selling Rooney to Chelsea (Mourinho said it's Rooney or nothing). This frees up one striker spot. Cisse is obviously moving to Manchester.

2. It is much more likely that Thiago preferred to go to Bayern after we dallied on the deal.

It was already said yesterday that Thiago spoke to Pep before the European U21's and told Thiago he wanted him at Bayern. We probably did make an offer, but his mind was probably made up a lot earlier!

If that last line is true then it must be something of utmost importance that couldn't wait another few days.

He was due to return home on Sunday and his decision to cut short his trip to the Far East indicates the urgency of the situation requiring his attention.

I'm probably killing myself, but I'm holding out for a big signing. We deserve some good news!

I don't see this being about Rooney, simply because that there is no urgent need to sell him now. It makes little odds to us whether he leaves now, on the last day of the window, or not at all this season. If Jose honestly only has Rooney as a main target, there's no rush for us.
Cash for the Ronaldo Bid?!

David Gill would never have done something like this to please the muppets among us.

It really is going to be something massively disappointing isn't it.

I swear if the reason he's returning home is because of something terrible that happened regarding his personal life and not to sign us a great footballer then I'll be so damned mad!

Maybe this is all a decoy. He gets on the plane then at the last minute he disembarks. Now the journos are off his trail. He then swiftly ties up a deal for Emile Heskey with the rest of Europe left jealous and cursing our great con man.

I thought he was playing in Oz. He's on a plane to Newcastle, New South Wales to sign him up to replace Ronald!

Maybe he got a dose of something in Thailand and his medical insurance does not cover treatment in an Aussie hospital?

Basically he's just taken a flight. It could be for anything really.

Imagine how pissed off we will be when we announce the capture of Baines on Monday morning?
