Of course we should. To judge the success or otherwise of our dealings before the end of the window is foolish. To make a judgement of the success or otherwise of Ed at this stage is mental, even by Caf standards.

Of course we should but I find it amusing that with Woodie it´s always about his hard work to get a deal done or preparing bid meanwhile according to Mourinho it´s just to send an email.

Maybe that is the good thing about him, that he wants to deal with people personally not just by e mail. If we pull a big signing out of the bag, then I will be thrilled and will take back everything I have said. I will be happy if we just got Fellaini, but anything on top of that would be great.

Mourinho is definitely being entirely truthful about the processes and efforts that go into signing a player. He's not at all trying to blow off his failure to lure Rooney as a "nothing to lose" throw away.

Surely you make the initial enquiry by email (or phone). Not much point in swanning off to Barcelona to sign a player unless there's some indication that a deal could happen. I just don't get why we made such a public spectacle of the whole business.

I will call for his head after the window closes, he could pull it all off on the last day of the window and end up being a hero.

Was either a mistake or PR stunt. From recent press conference i gather we will not go public with our bids any more.

It truly is amazing how many people have made up their minds about this guy less than a couple of months since he was given the helm and before the current transfer window has even closed.

Yeah, people are fast to judge others but Woody didn't help himself when he said that we can spend 70m on a single player and then made those way under the market offers for Cesc and Fellaini/Bale.

Unless he was thinking about Messi (about the player he isn't afraid to spend 70m).

The worst thing about him is that he makes Gill look good.

I always thought Gill was shite in the market.

He's the anti-Gill. Gill gave the finger to the muppets, but at times he signed some players. Woody made all the muppets dream, and then signed...Varela.

You would think that a new Chief Exe would want to make a big signing to prove himself. Unfortunately for him the other clubs know he is still a bit green and are making it difficult for him.

Question is, how many clubs has he been dealing with at all? OK, there was Barca, we didn't lose any deal with them because we couldn't negotiate, and Everton. Doesn't look like we had too many options this summer at all.

All these air miles he is mounting up, I would be wanting results. I think he just likes airline food.

Erm, I think it will be his head. :-) Moyes will do his best to dumb it all down, but in reality his public spat with Everton was very foolish and to be honest, that bullshit about him allowing the players to leave to further their career was just plain stupid.

The only thing that would cause Everton to capitulate sooner, would be their desire to spend on another player.

I am one to defend Moyes, but the pair of them appear to be making a right feck up of this transfer business. They appear very clumsy.

I am holding onto the belief though that they are going to pull a master stroke and shock us all. Personally, I think the chances of us signing anybody is less than 50%.

Nah. It's more likely because of his lame bids.

the man has been a joke all summer. even if he "pulls" off a transfer or two before the window, it doesnt change the fact that the way he has acted all summer is not befitting of a club like this.

Surely a business the size of United has a 'VP of Talent Acquisitions' or some such person to look after negotiations. Does the Chief Exec do it himself?

the thread entitled "david gill" by comparison, has 69 responses. this is, in my opinion, the most hysterical of all threads on the forum, more so than any of the big player transfer threads.

True officially been in his position only a few months but Gill leaving has been on the cards a while. Unlike Moyes who has used the excuse of only startingmJuly 1, Woodward has had ample time to prepare for this summer.

We don't know what is going on behind the scenes but, the results so far are abysmal and what we do at least have insight to, the bids that have been made seem quite off not to mention the follow ups taking so long, give the appearance right now is that he really seems to be drowning.

I agree

no one has a clue as to whats going on behind the scenes, what woodward does or what Gill did

Gill was fantastic at getting midfield targets the last 5/6 years though.......oh wait

The result so far have been disappointing only because they haven't come off, had he gone about his business the same way and they had there would be few complaints, I suspect there would even have been praise for taking a bolder, ambitious and more open approach than fans have been used to over the years.

It is true to say he has created a rod for his own back with how public he has allowed the club to be on some transfer issues (the whole leaving the tour to attend to transfer business was silly) but I get the feeling that he has done a lot of what he has done with the goal of trying to keep the supporters better informed. What I think he is quickly learning is how fast that can bite you in the ass when things don't go exactly as you planned.

I'd also like to think the more recent relative silence is an example of him having learned his lesson, and whilst it is true to say that the size of the Felliani/Baines bid did not help it was not his decision or the clubs to make that bid public and we have no real idea what info he was given before he made that bid.

As a matter of fact there is so much about his activities and reasons that we don't know, but what I object to most is the level of vitriol that is being direct his way so early into the job. Him having to come into the job at the same time as a new manager is a circumstance that is highly unusual and probably won't repeat itself again at our club for quite sometime. Maybe there is a cause to say also in his defense that it is likely to take time before both he and Moyes have a clear understanding of how the other works best so there are likely to have been communication issues.

All i'm saying is we will have a clearer picture of his level of initial success in the job by the time the window has closed and not before. It is also highly likely that due to the change in dates for the close of the transfer window and dates that players are due for loyalty bonuses in their contracts we will see an avalanche of last minute deals, this is an unusual window.

The bids have been officially confirmed for Fab and Fellaini/Baines. In both cases they were ridiculously below market rate.

Combined with the public posturing, him and Moyes have acted like absolutely cluesless amateurs in their attempts to recruit players.

Negligent behaviour.

I am sure Moyes will be a success though and really like him but this summer has been cringe.

what makes it worse is we are basically assuming what his role is in transfers. For all we know Moyes is the one dictating values.

Well it has been reported numerous times that Woodie has been working hard with transfer dealings and as the CEO he should make the big decisions. But of course he could just be a scapegoat and they pretend that he is the one officially handling transfers and sending low bids to other clubs meanwhile he is actually tied to a chair with a sock in his mouth hidden in a basement somewhere. :)
