Edward Woodward

Do you think it's possible he has just been in constant transit, because of our random bid launches? Like everytime he nears England, we put in another bid for Fabregas and then the plane has to turn around again? Maybe this is how we conduct our transfers post-Ferguson, our chief executive, probably equipped with his own private plane and player radar technology, spends the entire transfer window in the air on standby incase we enter advanced negotions with a player?

Maybe he was flying in the Heart of Gold from Hitchhiker's Guide. He had issues with the improbability drive and thought we had a bid accepted for Messi.

If this is indeed true, it means...

We have to bid £42 million for Fabregas. I KNEW IT.

To the Fab-thread!!!

I imagine Woodward needs to see something like this for future reference.

For someone who doesn't understand Australian transportation system well, it could take hours and days with several bus and train trips to transfer from the woods to the airport

He didn't complete the Valera signing right?

If not, we should setup a page akin to 'Has Torres Scored', except it's 'Has Manchester United Chief Executive Ed Woodward signed more footballers than you?'

Answer so far is no.

Just shocking stuff from the Glazers/the board. They should have paid 1m as a bonus to Gill to keep him on through Fergie's transition. Can you imagine a Fortune 100 company hiring a new CEO after having a very successful one for 20 years, and then bringing on a brand new, completely inexperienced CFO to be his right hand man?

You do realise don't you that we haven't just picked up a random guy from the street and installed him as the CEO. I am not sure why you are blaming him anyway:confused:

He's not random, but he has 0 experience running a football club.

Given this is such a crucial time for United (Fergie leaving, Gill leaving) you'd of thought that the board would have a plan in place to ensure that continuity and stability are ensured as much as possible. If you created a 'post-Fergie' summer plan it would presumably look like:

1. Bring in new manager immediately, have him start as early as possible
2. Keep as much of the executive in place to manage the transition
3. Demonstrate clubs continual dominance by making marquee signing
4. Get in signings before far east tour, to give time for team to integrate with new manager
5. Keep coaching staff where possible, to give players (particularly youth) stability and maintain the 'Manchester United' feel to training/life

The only time you want to 'rock the boat' with new management is if things are going badly, or if the new management is higher profile than the old management.

Exactly. David Gill never failed to get a target signed nor made us wait until August to get a player we wanted. The sack is to good for this clown. String him up I say.

We may need to report him missing, eventually. His family evidently don't care. He probably once told his family he was going for "immediate and urgent christmas presents" only to return in easter with his mouth covered in chocolate.

Mate, I'm sure we all would have loved that but unfortunately, this is reality. Transfers are complicated enough and whilst I agree we could have done better, it's a bit too nit-picky at this point. We should allow for some time to pass before judging too harshly. The easy option is to sit back and criticise. I am sure we wanted to bring Thiago before we left for the tour but he chose Bayern in the end.

He must have missed the flights and is crawling back to Manchester from Oz

He's bought budget air tickets as a sign of leading by example -- 16 flights, bus and 11 trains rides before being back in Manchester.

He is currently somewhere in Gujarat, India and about to hop on a bus to take him into Karachi, Pakistan.

Missed a budget flight in Chiangmai, Thailand but was resourceful enough to find other means of transport, all at no additional cost to United or his travel budget. Daniel Levy will be so proud of this fellow CEO.

The grapevine is that he's expected to be back in his new office by the start of the season. No worries.

I think the next An Idiot Abroad series should be a documentary based on the Woodward saga.
