Edinson Cavani

Pfff, as if he'd get a wide role either with Valencia here.

The only way he'll end up here is if Rooney or van Persie leave, which is not impossible, wouldn't surprise me if the club is covering their tracks provided one or both of them asks to leave. Would Cavani want to play in the Europa league though?

It wouldn't surprise me if they wanted rooney as part of any deal - personally I'm happy with Rooney and RVP but if one was to go I cant think of many better players who could come in than Cavani -

Having said that would Cavani fancy Thursday night football in a half empty Manchester stadium or would a cl spot and London attract him to Chelsea or CL football at the Bernabau make him fancy Madrid because I cant imagine neither of those clubs showing an interest as well should he be available.

With that in mind lets keep what we have got and focus on some midfielders

Seems the more natural replacement for RVP, shoud he leave. Rooney, if he goes, will be a strange one to replace as we don't really use him as an out and out striker anymore.
I'd put money him going to Chelsea, if he leaves PSG. Imagine the wages he in on there - doubt we would increase them.

no way we are spending 50mil on a striker when we need 2 midfielders, a centreback and a fullback in that same window.

Mata? Kagawa? If we got rid of Rooney and brought in Cavani we would need better wingers rather than another striker.

PSG owner Nasser El-Khelaifi has threatened to retaliate with counter offers for Premier League players should clubs pursue his players, so bids for Cavani could make for an interesting summer

I'd laugh if he started putting in big offers for the likes of Nani & co. Maybe that's why we're acting interested in Cavani, to provoke this response.

Cavani is probably my favourite striker in the world, he's class. Scored 30+ goals 3 seasons in a row (Including Internationals, although i think he still manages this feat without them) and is on track to do so again with PSG, even being played out of position to accomodate Ibra which isn't unreasonable considering how brilliant he is, but he is certainly deserving of being a leading player at a top club. I personally think he would be a beast within the PL, and would be a perfect replacement for RVP. He'd be the 'extra edge' to get you to the title/top 4, like RVP is, and probably was last season to an extent.

Haha, that is actually something clubs could be doing. Maybe many clubs are interested in seeing who they actually will be bidding for :)

 They did this to Messi, didn't they?
Yeah when Barca wanted Thiago Silva, he said if they bid for him we will pay Messi's buyout clause of 255M Euros or something

What is this madness?

So where is he going to play at United then?
If we sign him, likely is because one of RVP and Rooney (or both) will leave. Anyway he has scored 124 goals in his last 166 games (since his transfer to Napoli in summer 2010) which means that he has scored 0.75 goals per match. Rooney in his last 146 games for us (since summer 2010) has 77 goals with an average of 0.53 goals per match while during the same time RVP in 157 matches has scored 101 goals with an average of 0.64 goals per match.

I think that he is in their level (if not better) and has a better goal per matches ratio.

Only makes sense if its RVP that's leaving. Even if Rooney leaves, neither of RVP or Cavani should be doing anything but leading the line.

If he is leaving PSG, he is going to Chelsea most likely. We arent in the Champions League next season, so why would he leave a team with big UCL aspirations to a team not even in the competition? Also there is no way we are going to spend the amount being sprouted around for him because he is a striker. We have more pressing concerns in midfield and defense that need fixing.

One would think that, but it isn't the case. Even without the prospect CL football the player still prefers a move here...

Other than as one of those marquee signings we here so much about, I fail to see why we would bother. We have more than enough strikers/number 10s knocking around the club. I'd want all our money put into defence and midfield positions. Even if RvP goes im sure we can live with "just" Rooney, Hernandez, Wellbeck, Kagawa, Januzaj and Mata.

I don't think we should be spending the money needed to get him when we have more pressing concerns. Quality striker though.

Couldn't agree more. Treating an imbalance in the team by making it even more imbalanced will be crazy. That said, if we lose 2 strikers (say RvP and Hernandez) then buying a single class striker makes sense.
