I'm calling bollocks on that one. Doesn't make any sense, will be incredibly expensive and is in an area of the pitch we don't need strengthening. It would be a ridiculously stupid move if true.

Would never want him here and I'd be really annoyed to see this come true. We should sell strikers, not buy them.

It would have been unbelievable had he come here, if we didn't have one of Rooney or RvP. The reality is we do, and the only realistic place he is going to go is right wing, where he doesn't enjoy playing at PSG. Really odd player to be so interested in considering our need for other positions.

Could Van Persie be angling for a new deal and the club leaking this to give us some leverage?

I don't really know. We've always been heavily linked with strikers we don't need though. Lewandowski too.

Confident this one won't happen, which is more than fine with me.

Agreed, I would take him at United. However, with Rooney there and if van Gaal comes in, you would assume RVP is staying, there is just no room for him.

United have already held preliminary talks to ascertain whether Cavani might be prised away from PSG. The fee would be high, potentially £60m for a 27-year-old

Feck that. Ridiculous money and a position that should be near the least of our worries.

I must say, i've never really got the fuss with Cavani. He seems to have a stinker every time i've watched him.

Waste of money, even if one of our strikers is off, I still wouldn't want Cavani here. Don't rate him as much as some others on here do.

A combination of his style being maybe the ugliest in football as his game from out wide is all about making runs and his issues with Blanc/PSG not improving anything. So unless he gets the perfect pass he will have spent all game making runs without touching the ball. He works his ass off in the defense though and the other wide men in PSG have similar amount of touches per game as him. So it is possibly worse in PSG who loves playing centrally than in Uruguay, haven't caught enough of Uruguay though. Maybe @antohan tell us if his style is as boring for Uruguay when asked to play wide.

This is my view exactly.

Striker is almost literally the only place we don't need to strengthen - so sure let's spend £60m there on one player. Great

Would be very odd. Two of our current 4 would have to be moved on to even consider going for him.

I would've been game for him a year or two ago, but seems to have really mellowed at PSG from his more explosive ways at Napoli.

There has to be a point where we stop believing paper talk though. The Moyes leak was legit but stuff like this is more likely to be nonsense.

FWIW every newspaper is reporting this story, it came from the club. Woodward is said to be desperate to bring a 'superstar' here. Make of that what you will.

Buy a superstar midfielder you plum!

Makes sense though, Woodward will be keen to prove himself to the fan base.

This would be ridiculous if true; we need a CB, LB (or two), RB, at least two CMs and possibly a winger depending on departures. So we go out and spunk 60Mil on a striker…?

Surely Mata was the big name superstar we didn't reall need? How many trophy signings does Woodward want?

Unless players are leaving we really don't need a striker and even if we did 60m would be way too much considering the strengthening we need in other areas.

Not only would this sort of luxury signing not help us, it may actually cause more problems. Madridesque logic.

The problem with being managerless. Right now we have Woodward as Director of Football working hard on putting deals together.

God help us.

I like him. Strong but has the ability to control a ball and make space for the shot. So much depends on what direction the club are going towards in regards to the new manager.

If it is Van Gaal then you'd have to presume that Van Persie will be his man for the next season,at the very least. Bringing in Cavani at this juncture will do nothing but create pressure for him to start, judging from what I have heard of Van Gaal on here...this is likely to be point of contention....

Just one scenario, I suppose. The manager situation at the moment seems pretty fluid with everybody but Van Gaal tied up with a club job, leaving everything up in the air.

Yep, Van Gaal is more than capable of benching a 60m striker who's forced on him, he genuinely won't give a feck. In fact I think he did similar with signings at Bayern.

Like everyone is saying, he's an excellent player but absolutely is not what we need right now. Other positions are so much more pressing, it would be incredibly strange if he was a big signing for us.

What I make of it is that Woodward is not the most reassuring figure to have running our transfer policy. I wouldn't mind seeing him out the door as well.

Yeah, I would love for SAF to take an active role here (more so than in recruiting our next manager, to be honest.) Woodward instills no confidence.

£60 Million for a 27 year old who plays in the strongest position in our squad where we already have Rooney & Van Persie not to mention Welbeck/Hernandez.

Yeah that sounds like a sensible investment, just buy some fecking midfielders Woodward you muppet.

Yes. Buy another striker with no pace.

Rather have Lavezzi, Veratti, Lucas or Menez. If we signing someone realistically from PSG.

Sounds idiotic, 60 mln quid for another fecking striker.

It sounds like us though back from the days, need midfielder, buy a couple of strikers and wingers.

Isn't Daniel Taylor one of Woodward's preferred journos? Smacks of a bit of spin and positive PR post Moyes sacking.

Hopefully its more that the players agent is spinning to generate interest. I don't think its any positive PR for United as the general reaction is that this would be a really shitty idea.

This strikes me as a classic piece of deflection. Bad press over Moyes? Push a story about some big money signing.

I do like the idea that it puts pressure on RvP as well, if he's thinking of leaving.

He is indeed. I'm sticking with my smokescreen theory. Distract peoples attention whilst we plug away with getting our real targets.

Hypothetically, even if Rooney leaves (which I doubt) am I the only one who still thinks this doesn't make sense? Will LvG even play 442? It just seems odd as we were linked with him even Moyes was around too.

Not every link is genuine. I can't see the club freely offering this information up, which could hamper any real potential deal. After the calamity of last summer I reckon we will be keeping our cards as close to our chests as possible this window.. This seems to staged to be true.

With Hernandez & Welbeck both potentially leaving in the summer under Moyes it was perhaps something that was actually considered but will most likely be put on hold now.

If it were a straight choice I'd have Cavani over RvP, but I don't rate him high enough above RvP to justify spending the money we'd have to to bring him in. Although if we're concerned RvP may start to be injury prone again I'd rather Cavani than Hernandez.

Fabregas makes no sense whatsoever.
