Ole definitely asked for another striker after seeing that Ighalo is far from being up to the task. So, the idea this is 100% Woodward signing doesn't seem valid to me.

Sounds like the guy from Real may have been our top target with Cavani as a fall back rather than going into the season like last year with only one real striker.

I have a strong feeling that we are struggling financially to an extent and will only spend once we don't make the big money of champions league again.

I don't understand the argument about age. The club tried to sign Haaland who fit the profile and Ole did everything short of offering him a reach around to convince him but that didn't happen. Now Cavani on a 1+1 to back up Martial is a much better signing than not having a back up striker when Ighalo leaves in a couple of months or even play Ighalo while he is here.
For me there's negativity because this all just seems very familiar... taking previously elite players from clubs who don't want them, and paying them ridiculous wages to do so. I get that it's been a difficult summer for lots of teams, but what's also clear is a lack of planning and execution at every stage of our summer business.
Smacks of a desperation signing no matter how well he does and however you want to paint it, and just underlines how horrendously run we actually are.

With injuries as well. How many were starts? How many minutes did he play? Do we add in his 12 assists?
I’d be happy enough with that, still pissed that we won’t have a potential superstar like Sancho but at least improving on the squad strength unlike last Summer which was as unforgivable as Mourinho’s final summer window.
Of course he’s a panic signing. He wasn’t someone Ole wanted. If he was we’d have got him in in August, he’s been available all summer.
