Edinson Cavani - SIGNED for United

Was last year riddled by injuries, or was it that he really fell out with Neymar & Mbappe? I recall reading the later but am told he also had a lot of injuries.

When fit his returns are steady, which is nice.

First time on recafe since Thursday

Dear god what's happened!

Not surprised in the slightest, typical Ed Woodward signing. A big name past their best on massive wages.

The thing with Cavani is although stat wise he is/was a top striker he’s one of those players who plays like absolute shite whenever I’ve actually seen him play and that was him in his prime, so feck knows what he’s like now at 33.:wenger:

If Cavani was anywhere near being a decent option, we would not have left it until the second to last day of the window to sign a free agent, with zero competition for his signature.

Other clubs supporters will be laughing at us..

What does that matter? Its more the fan meltdown that would be worthy of laughter.

It is a sensible short term signing - sounds like he's on similar wages to Rashford and Martial- can hopefully fill in, do a good job, score some goals & mentor our young attackers while we wait for them to mature / wait for Haaland's clause to be in play.

Don't really understand most of the negativity. This is man with body, a boatload of (international) experience and also very strong in the air. This Will give us a lot of other options in a game, also in giving rest to players without taking a huge drop in quality. For example, we can rest Rashford and play Martial on the left with Cavani in the center. Lots better than bringing James in on the left.

How will that work in a team that doesnt have players/wingers who can cross a ball?

He is a good player. No matter where he played before a good player is a good player.
33 is not that old for a bench option on a free, he can even give some competition to Martial and Rashford.
From what I know he is not a primadonna either but a hardworking and humble guy.
He can be a very good signing. We have no one beyond our front three. I'll take him even if we signed Sancho. He is quality.

Falcao, Part 2.

So, our aim is to build a young squad for the future.
That's what Ole has been preaching.
Now we are buying a "has been". I don't like saying that, but this is not substitute for a young Jaden Sancho, who could do a good job at our club for the next 10 years.
Had Jose been in charge, I think Cavani would be a good deal, as he likes experienced, older players, but Ole prefers younger players, so that's what we should buy for Ole.
The board are buying players which the manager does not want.
I don't blame Cavani (he'll no doubt earn big bucks), but I do blame our board.
I do not believe for a second that this is planned. I think our board has stumbled onto this player.

It is understood the package on the table does not go beyond the current pay structure, so United feel any comparisons with Alexis Sanchez, who was given a £350,000-a-week contract which he failed to come close to justifying, would be wide of the mark.

If anything he might get a few headers and poach a goal in the box. That’s looking on the bright side still very disappointed though.

How many last year? He’s 33. It stands to reason injuries at that age may have impacted him. Be interesting to know if his stats last year are as good as the years previous.
Started 12 games (10 sub-apps) 7 goals and 3 assists. Thats a goal every 154 mins.

The season before was 24 starts (9 sub-apps) with 23 goals and 9 assists. A goal every 104 mins.

So despite having greenwood and rashford that can play as strikers, we now instead have two panic buy back up strikers totalling together at about 400k per week for 1 position, but we snubbed bale who can actually play on the right wing and has a much higher ceiling of performance levels...

Still waiting for the players you would have bought this window. Lots of complaining but not much alternatives being offered.
Yeah, a guy like me with no resources and just his general football knowledge should be able to locate better targets than the people in a billion pound football club, who have all the possible resources in the world to do their actual jobs.

We should have signed Ziyech for the RW spot and someone similar to the profile of Telles, if not him. But of course we can't do deals early, we can barely do most deals in time anyway and have to hope something happens in the last few days of the transfer window.

Falcao was hard working and humble. Great intentions and a good moral compass don’t cut it for us right now.

why not just announce you are the most incompetent board and management hierarchy in world football? So what we have learnt absolutely nothing, another mercenary here on a massive deal, no motivation. I’m seriously pissed off with this one and to think I’ve actually defended these leaches against so much criticism, taken me for a mug.
