I could see them playing together. Ederson is more of an #8 than Ugarte and plays in a midfield at Atalanta that is not too disimilar from Amorim's at Sporting. Has more about him on the ball than Ugarte does. I think the lack of passing range and creativity could be an issue with that midfield though, we would need a lot of progression from the wingbacks. But if Casemiro goes in the summer, Ederson could be an astute buy.
 
He would certainly add some missing physicality in the CM position for us. My preference is still Baleba as I think he has a higher ceiling (for lack of a less cringey term) but if Brighton demand stupid money Ederson would not be a bad option.
 
Would be an excellent signing for us. Ugarte, Mainoo, Ederson, and Casemiro for the two midfielder spots would be excellent coverage and competition for places. A nice balance of technique and energy. Ederson is a powerful runner with and without the ball.

Probably not 120 mil stupid which I imagine being what they would be aiming for since they got 115 for Caicedo , and Baleba is regarded as more promising.

Ideally something in the range of 50 surely would be Edersons value which is probably still more than we can afford right now but yeah he’d be the one I’d be aiming for. Looks fantastic from what I’ve seen. Has a bit of everything.

How reliable is this? Pletenberg has always felt a bit scattergun.

I disagree. He's not a 10 and he isnt a holding midfielder. He's a midfielder who bombs forward and gets goals and like McTominay, that doesnt fit our new system. Maybe he could be asked to sit a lot more but then he'd lose the goals and his general CM play (ball winning, passing, dribbling, close control) isn't anything that stands out

He'd be a great option off the bench like McTominay was when we're abandoning any sensible formation and just want players to get forward and try to get on the end of something in the box. But I'm sure he'd cost too much to be bought as a sub

Edit - Actually I do think he is skilled and can take the ball in nicely, or go past a man despite him statistically not doing it that often. And there are at least clips of him making some nice sliding tackles. Its more that he'd be playing where Bruno is currently playing and I dont think he's the type of passer to do that well. I still think he's a better version of McTominay with better on the ball ability and lots of running power. And I think it would be similar to how ETH was criticized for "having 1 midfielder" because McTominay would join the attack. He'd do a better version of that. Perhaps if Ugarte can be a playmaker from his DM position as a DLP it could work, but I dont really see it at the moment.

Angel Gomes on a free is the sensible option. If not him then a player in his mould, someone that can control the game from deep and add some calmness to the chaos in the centre.

With the way Amorim rotates, he'd start a lot and he can play no 10 too in certain games so he'd get plenty game time. The fit is there, the financials make sense. It would be our best signing of the summer personally.
 
Haven`t seen a lot of him but really like the little i`ve seen.
Seem to be strong in the tackle and also more than decent on the ball. A good allrounder.
Could be a good option next to Ugarte. Would help make us rather solid in midfield. 25 is a good age as well
 
This guy is a transformative signing, we really have to get him. Problem is, he is for city too, and the latest reports have them interested. My number 1 pick to partner Ugarte.

I think we need a Carrick type who can control the game on the ball and sit in and cover passing lanes off it, allowing Ugarte to press up high and win the ball back.

A Carrick type and level player would be a massive boost for us, but these players are just so rare.
I do think however that two more hardworking cms like Ugarte+ Ederson could work in Amorims system with 2 nr 10s that carry a lot of the creative responsibility.

There’s a midfielder I won’t name who plays for Barcelona who I hear they are trying to give away. Apparently we’ve been linked before, I’d still take him in a heartbeat.

I think if Amorim does see Bruno as an 8 rather than a 10 then a midfield signing next summer is overkill given the other positions that need sorting. We’d have Bruno and Mainoo challenging for the advanced 8 position, then Ugarte as first choice 6. There’s an argument we’d need another to challenge Ugarte but if we rate Collyer and Kone as much as we seem to then there’s no reason why they can’t do that role between them. They’ll be 19 and 21 next season, ages where they should be getting minutes if we see them as potential first teamers. The academy is loaded with central midfield talent as well.

I don’t think they are close to Ugartes level.
Another well rounded cm with strong defensive ability could go a long way to give us better balance in midfield.

I would buy Ederson plus another playmaking DM/CM. We need 2. Because Casemiro and Eriksen should leave. We only have Ugarte and Mainoo right now that are quality

I think Bruno might start playing deeper. We need some speed up top alongside Amad. So Bruno, Mainoo, Ugarte and Ederson might have to do for one year.

Bruno lacks the discipline and the positioning to play in that role.

I can't care about the system. All I can say is that Bruno is not suited in a deeper role is. In my opinion if he can't do it in a no 10 role then maybe its time for him to leave.

Well the system is what is important here so to say you don’t care makes no sense. Bruno isn’t suited to a deeper role in a 4-2-3-1. But in a 3-4-2-1 system a need for an out and out #6 isn’t needed in every game.
