Ederson is better, he would be my ideal player at #6. Not gonna happen though, so not even gonna bother with the stats.

I'm happy with United's dealings so far. I'm just very particular about United's midfield, because last time I saw United have a good midfield was back in 09-11 period when I was in highschool. That's just too long back

Doesn't help for the last decade we had the wrong people in charge of recruitment, oh and before that it was the no value in market line
Maybe we are targeting him for next summer or perhaps he is a genuine alternative to Ugarte
I just ran the squawka player comparison stats.
From the stats Ugarte appears to be clearly more of a CDM with safer short and long range passing. More tackles, blocks and shots blocked etc.
Ederson scored more goals and is very slightly ahead of Ugarte in % of aerial and ground duels won from last season. Ederson also does more forward passes as opposed to Ugarte doing more sideways and backwards passes.
I've not seen anything personally on Ederson so will defer to others views on him. I think Ugarte suits what Ten Hag wants from his CDM in terms of switching the play and being mobile.
I always do the pass, run, tackle test for United midfielders. How many players have we got that can do all 3?
A couple of years ago we were horrific with not many being able to even do 2 out of the 3.
Currently:
Casemiro can pass and tackle, but not run
Mainoo can pass, tackle and his mobility will probably improve as he ages and builds his endurance over time
McTominay can tackle and run, but not pass
Eriksen can pass but not tackle or run
Mount can pass and run, but not really tackle (decent at pressing)
Bruno can pass and run but not really tackle (decent at pressing but fouls alot)
That's leaves us with the best all round midfield of probably Casemiro, Mainoo and Mount/Bruno or a 4 as we're currently doing. Eriksen or McTominay aren't well rounded enough to be starters.
Ugarte can pass, tackle and run.
That's why I think Ten Hag wants him. He can play every game imagineable for us as a starter.
He's better than Ugarte and a better fit for Mainoo in my view, but would probably cost even more and is therefore even less likely to happen. Ugarte is a decent option that will be worth doing, if we can get it over the line.
Maybe we want to add him for next summer if Casemiro leaves, obviously still need to find that midfield playmaker as well
This is a non starter. He’s the type of midfielder you prioritise at the start of the window, not the back up guy you look at towards the end of it when you can’t get your main target. INEOS obviously view Ugarte as a better fit.

Could he the case and we’re just laying the groundwork early. I’m surprised he’s not our first choice target for this season though, he offers a lot of what Ugarte does with the added bonus of being a lot better on the ball.
Agreed. Stronger in the air too and a better athlete (although in terms of athleticism, Ugarte is still an upgrade on what we currently have).
Ugarte, Ederson, Mainoo midfield in the future.

I doubt it. I’d say PSG are rejecting 50 for Ugarte and we are seeing if we can get someone just as good for the same money. Also puts pressure on PSG to accept or finally walk away asap.

I have only watched youtube clips but he seems to have more game than Ugarte.
I don't believe this. Probably a tactic to force PSG to lower the price for Ugarte("we have an alternative").
Signing both of them would be amazing, though. But, not quite realistic right now.
