Eden Hazard

I am ready to bet my house that Hazard will never win a Ballon d'Or.

I wouldn’t be so sure. If he follows through on this recent scoring streak and manages 25-30 this season, he’d have to be in for serious consideration.

I am sure. It is a safe bet, don't forget that no CL kills his chances big time. No matter how he performs in the PL this season, he won't win the next one for sure.

With a Salah level season and Chelsea winning the EPL, he has a big chance to win it, but that's pure fantasy atm.

Only way Hazard would be in contention for Ballon d'or is if Belgium win an international tournament and that still might not be enough. Seems people are unwilling to look beyond Messi and Ronaldo, even when they have had lesser seasons and it's seems to have been decided that Neymar then Mbappe will be the future recipients. These awards are now more focussed on popularity and sponsors than who has been the best player.

Why would you be so sure? Sarri's Chelsea will likely hit it's stride next season and They'll likely be competing for every thing with him leading them.

 the sudden Hazard lovefest.
Lads, he scored at home against lowly struggling Cardiff!

Look forward to another rebump if this thread in 2/3 months time!

Wouldn't say its sudden. Most fans realize that Hazard has bubbled around the elite tier of world class for years but struggled to have the goals and assists that his talent suggests he should have. He now plays under a heavily offensive coach and is entering his football prime. It maybe that he's finally pushing through that final elite threshold.

Early days though, so we will see how he performs over the next 10-15 games.

Probably the best player in the PL, I can't think of any others that have his x-factor/match winning ability. Like I've said before though he needs to leave Chelsea to reach another level

Odd that no other elite club thinks that way....

Isn't really sudden though is it?
You'll be hard pressed to find a player around that has performed better than Hazard from the FA Cup final until now.
He's been probably been the best performing player for the last 3-4 months.

Yet he would get into most sides in world football, if not all
And yet he is still at Chelsea without serious interest from bigger clubs.

Salah scored a ridiculous amount of goals that Hazard won't probably get close to. Won't gonna happen IMHO

Why wouldn't I be ? He's a great player that I've been watching since his first game at Lille basically, I just don't see him ever being Ballon d'Or.

He is a class player, the best in the league and one of the best in Europe. Wish SAF paid those agent fees back in 2012.

I think your correct tbf, Balloon D'or is way too much about statistics now and whilst I do expect Hazard to hit extremely good numbers under Sarri, it wont be enough I don't think.

Chelsea fans know his capabilities though, he can win us games without even scoring and has done so.

The fact he is inconsistent is an absolute myth, he did have a very poor season under Jose granted. But outside of that I don't think there's a player since that has had more MOTM in the premier league. The fact he has had to drop deep and playmake under defensive managers like Conte & Jose has hindered his stats massively. Stat lovers will finally be shut up this year

That’s because you apparently still see Chelsea as a small club. When you look at it from the perspective of what we’ve won in the last 15 years however, and the financial capability of the club, we’re one of the biggest clubs on the planet. Other clubs simply don’t poach our players, in those 15 years we’ve had maybe 2 players leave to join ‘bigger clubs’, with Robben being before we were challenging for the CL every year for a decade, and the only recent one being Courtois whose family are based in Madrid. The only club that poses a real risk to us re Hazard is Real.

To be fair at the exception of Terry, you have had players that "bigger" clubs would try to poach. In a way you have mainly been like SAF's last teams where the collective is stronger than the individuals.

Terry, Lampard, Cech, Cole, Drogba, there’s been plenty of players who were playing at an outrageously high level who a ‘bigger’ club would have loved if they could have had them. Players want to be well payed, be happy and to compete for the top honours every year. Until our recent couple of years of title wins followed by collapses, we were offering players that basically every year. Plus of course being based in one of the most vibrant and connected cities on the planet.

None of these players at the exception of Terry and Cole were interesting targets for bigger clubs. They were very good but not better than the players already there.

Not really, Barca have no need for him and both Real and PSG cut their spending this past summer. Bayern would never pay what it takes either

Next summer will be interesting if Hazard still remains to have an unsigned new contract and Neymar were to move...

Hugely disingenuous to say there's no serious interest from other clubs. Obviously every big club in the world would be interested. It's just that he'd cost Neymar money and none of them will pay that.

He's said they are one of the biggest clubs on the planet however when you're not even the biggest in your own country I find that hard to contemplate.
So either Barcelona or Real are not one of the biggest clubs in the world if you follow your logic.

and we are lets see 16 trophies since 2003 makes us the most successful english club over that period. Biggest club in London. won 2 of the last 4 seasons. Other than juve, bayern, barca, real which club has won more than us. We were stuck at 4th in the all time UEFA ranking till we dropped out of the champions league places.

City for all the media love hasn't won more trophies than us and all they so called love is on the promise that they will dominate even though this has yet to happen. So you can make the argument that in terms of trophies won in recent years we are the biggest in England. And let's be real. Liverpool,City,United and Arsenal are also some of the biggest clubs on the planet.

Exceptions to a rule you yourself applied to disprove something the other poster never said. Why go to such pointless lengths to WUM opposition posters?

What are you on about? I said Chelsea aren't the biggest club in England and they aren't (unless you disagree?). Not sure what's infactual about it.

I also don't consider them one of the biggest clubs on the planet. They don't have the history, fanbase or world wide pedigree to support that claim.

It's also my opinion.

Thier was an article in the telegraph detailing that Real Madrid at most could only afford 150m without taking a loan as they would also need a vote from the general assemble to sanction a next one as they are already paying off one loan to pay their wage bill.

Hazard would cost upwards at 150m hell even 200m. And knowing Marina she would want that upfront no installments only PSG,City and united can afford that.

That doesn't mean your wrong stop hiding behind the it's my opinion. Word wide pedigree? Have you seen our fanbase? Not as big as United or Barca or Real sure, we don't have the glory like Liverpool but since we got bought we have been at the very top of the footballing world and you can look at United and say you guys have fallen down the pecking order, clinging on to pass glories. But no one says that, your all respected for your achievements while we are respected for constantly winning trophies at an average rate of 1 per season.

There are exceptions of course.
 Oh dear.

Chelsea are clearly one of the biggest club's in the world now. I'd say they're a tier below us, Barca, Real, Bayern, Juve.

This idea of clinging on to past glories and history in order to justify a club being 'big' is beyond me, really. Current fanbase, revenue and trophies is what matters. If Chelsea lose those things then clearly they will drop off from the world's biggest clubs, just like AC Milan and Inter Milan have in recent years.

I haven't said I don't respect you, I've simply said I don't think you're one of the biggest clubs on the planet. Not sure what's so outrageous about this if I'm honest.

With regards to your fanbase you average an attendance of 37,000 at the bridge (according to freedom of information figures released). I'm sure your fanbase has grown significantly, much like Man City's, but as I say I don't consider you one of the biggest clubs in the world.

You know what I'm on about.

@Kentonio you're not even the biggest club in England. Let's have it right.

What is this post if not an unncessary off topic wum attempt which you so enjoy when it comes to opposition posters here? I asked you if he'd claimed it and because he hadn't, you made up a rule on the fly. When the absurdity of that rule was pointed out to you, you took the "there are exceptions" route.

The point is simple, don't wum and don't derail the thread with off topic posts. If you want to create a dick swinging contest about what makes clubs big or whatever, start a new thread.

Not even sure its worth wasting your energy with him tbf.
