Football games are no longer built for the likes of me and you - who just want a good football game that has a decent career mode against a competent CPU.
Makes me sad.
I've mucked around with UT on and off the last few years but never really treated it as a football game per say, the gameplay is just shocking in that regard. UT was the shit back in Fifa 11 though, before they went full greed.
Konami annoy me more. They literally have a game they just won't release it properly for some unknown reason.
Fifa has always been garbage on single player. It's either just crap or nearly good but then they do something daft to completely ruin it.

Its all I want is a great career mode where i can take a team from the bottom of the 2nd division to the top of the EPL over a number of seasons. I want them to find a way to make a decent AI that has teams beat me with great football rather than the predictable bursts of amazing luck and relentless sudden super god level ability bursts
What I don't get about (the artist formerly known as) fifa online is its so far removed from a football simulation that they might as well go full whack and have rocket league style special powers or skills that defy physics, etc.
But they don't do this,which suggests it is actually supposed to be a simulation of real football, but then it makes no attempt to do that either.
So what even is it?
Why do people get so angry about the player ratings every year? This year its because the women are rated higher than the men and this isnt realistic apparently. So what? It also isn't realistic in real life for Rashford to be on both teams at the same time amd neither of the teams to actually exist.

Unfortunately I think there is an element of truth here which is a real shame.
I have no issue with them releasing female player packs into UT (I don’t play it) but I think it should be a pack option. As in you can select male/female packs. That way those who want the players aren’t spending money being disappointed either way.
Seeing some truly awful stuff this year.
I think the ridiculous training thing is still in career mode too. So every time you start a new career you have to re-do every single training session to get A's. And you still have to restart your career if you want updated head scans to appear.
Also the fact that you still can't have 9 subs on the bench. How basic is that. Absolutely pathetic company.

Garnacho is scanned which along with Greenwood back in the game is tempting me to spank the moneys. EA have been making me fall out of love with the game I don't think I will be buying it this year.

It's shite because I miss playing FIFA with mates but until they sort this rubbish out I'm better off sticking with FM for a solo football game as despite also falling into useless territory at times they do appear to be making positive changes.

100% I was speaking to friends about this and it seemed the most obvious conclusion.
All they had to do to make it less contentious was separate male and female packs and squads. Then have challenges/SBC that encourage people to play with both squads.
My friend said he played against a team called abusers 11 which basically has all players that are currently under investigation for abuse. I didn't know there were so many.

I'm honestly not sure if career mode and the offline game used to be fun just because I was a kid or because it was actually good. Hell the first time I remember they brought in the player career mode and be a pro and all that, you actually started off in the reserves team, would play U21 game at Old Trafford where it was like 10% full, and you'd work your way up.
Still have no idea why they've never brought in something simple like being subbed off in those games or a normal progression of getting loaned out.
You can't even have 9 subs on the bench. You literally just change 7 to 9 and slightly adjust the UI to make space for that but they can't even do that much.
Rugby, football and cricket all don’t have a game worth me playing 
Miss the days of Rugby 06, Cricket 07 and Pro Evo 6-8. Fifa was great between 12-17 too.

I was going to buy it, because in terms of entertainment per $ it's always been good value. Don't even care about dodgy visuals, but mixed FUT teams have actually really put me off.
Don't even have to play the game to know that it's a shitty decision on so many levels.

It’s a real shame because the women’s game is growing in exposure and looks to be gaining the right kind of traction. I for one am more engaged with United’s women and England women’s team thanks to the high quality showings at the World Cup and domestically. I’d argue it’s finding its own place in the market but by shoehorning women into the men’s game I don’t see what that really achieves? Exposure perhaps but is it the right kind or does it make women appear to be invading the men’s space as opposed to holding their own? I feel conflicted on it because ultimately I think it’s just going to build an undertone of resentment among very impressionable youth where there won’t be the same celebration at packing a rare female athlete which can in turn become nasty especially given the nature of portions of the gaming community. There absolutely should be a reasonable split between the two sexes here and I worry the line is being blurred for EAs financial gain rather than for the actual advancement of the women’s game which is unpalatable.
I was most impressed by the news of them including the women’s leagues as playable but if they wanted to give an authentic experience a women’s career mode would have been a better choice. I’d love to take United’s women and work in the transfer market and youth systems to make them title winners but there’s only the option to play with the current squad. Id much rather have that option but career mode isn’t the cash cow and so an opportunity is lost.
They could even have done a female career mode story like they did with Alex Hunter.
We can argue over the realism of UT with legends and all sorts but it’s objectively different to do what they’ve done. It feels like a deliberate dilution of the men’s game to make money out of the pack system.
To me it feels token at best and a financial decision at worst to force users to buy more packs to get the players they’d like most.

I think your first paragraph is pertinent to a big issue here too.
I know I’m not sexist and yet I felt I had to be incredibly careful how I worded my opinion on the matter despite being an advocate for both equity and equality in society.
Now looking at the demographic of FIFA players is that audience going to be able to articulate their concerns appropriately to be able to address the issue or is it going to as you say devolve into anyone who isn’t 100% on board is a raging sexist and then a vocal and fumbling youth feeling attacked for a reasonable position they aren’t quite ready to defend?
It’s annoying because I do think a viable alternative was to produce a women’s career mode or even have as I said before male and female player packs. But EA won’t do that because it wants money.
Tbh while a lot of youtubers do sink ridiculous money into the game (which they make back anyway etc) you don’t actually have to sink loads of money into ultimate team anymore which for me is one of the biggest problems.
I haven’t spent a single penny on opening packs over the years but it’s ridiculously easy to get a quality team so quickly without even doing it. Don’t get me wrong, spend money and you’ll get it quicker and easier and they make an unreal fortune from people buying packs but ultimately they’re giving away plenty. Week one and the game is barely out for a lot of people and you can already easily get packs that contain 85+ rated players and so on by doing objectives. On one hand it’s nice because it means you at least have a chance to build a team without spending money. On the other hand it’s taken away the joys of the actual mode because it’s so easy to get a top team. By the end of week one everybody shouldn’t be sitting there with top quality teams, it’s taken away the joys of using the lower rated players and slowly building your team up on the grind. You can see why they’ve done it because people do sink money into the game to get new cards and new promos and open packs, it’s making them a fortune, sadly it kills the mode a bit for the average person.

Bizarre to read the comments in here. I think this is the best one they have made since FIFA 18, really enjoying it so far. Evolution is a great addition, so now less desired cards are usable.

A lot of them are excellent in the game, which is fantastic. I am puzzled as to why folks want a separate squad. That would kill the entire point of having them in the first place. Cech got a ST card, Schweinsteiger a CB, Walker a GK. Because clearly you play the one mode that they actually care about. The one involving loot boxes and making money. There are loads of other game modes (apparently).
Anybody figured out how to defend well in 1v1 type situations? I previously used to be decent at the l2 + r2 jockeying but there seems to be less reaction on this game. If you go one way and try to change direction, there seems to be a split second where you keep drifting in the original direction. Could just be me or my garbage defenders though.
I cant’ find endrick or roque in career mode ? What’s that about.
The people who make the game are bad at it.
Hopefully some new update will fix it. 2 most promising strikers in the game nowhere to be found.
Look in the settings, there's a setting where you can change how the player reacts upon switch.
And if you have no interest in FUT you have absolutely nothing positive that can be said about the game - and that's been the problem for years now.

Yes I clearly only play one mode, and you gauged all of that with one solitary post which was centered around adding women in Ultimate Team. Bravo!
FUT gets boring after a while and a lot of players move onto other modes such as Career/Pro Clubs. Biggest issue has been gameplay for past few years, where it's been too fast. This year, they have struck the right balance and added some skill gap when it comes to defending.
I disagree, I have really enjoyed the gameplay in Clubs/Career mode so far. Even had few H2H games with my friend using bunch of different house rules involving PL clubs. From what I am gauging, a lot of people want a Football Manager esque offline mode but with FIFA gameplay. It's a fair criticism that career mode hasn't really evolved in past few years, but that doesn't mean the rest of the game isn't good.
Dammit now you've reminded me once again of the gem that was FIFA Manager.
I don't care what anyone says, that was a great game series.
